  1. Ironically, NY apparently pursues non-NY politicians on perpetual witch hunts while letting NY pols actually guilty of crimes choose early retirement v any of that pesky jail time.
  2. Little know fact: The only reason the Stones had the Hell’s Angels doing security at Altamont in ‘69 was because the Rotarian’s were running a car wash/bake sale grift that very weekend. Things could have been much, much worse.
  3. I think sometimes the the tendency is to overthink things. While rushing to judgment can make us all look a bit foolish from time to time, some things really aren't all that complicated. Excellent point on the school board.
  4. All I can tell you is that man is 75 years old, he’s been a player on the big screen for most of those 75 years. He’s been a celebrity, an actor, a businessman, a billionaire, and most recently the president who was subjected to one of the most hostile and intensive deep dives into his life over a 4 year period. He has been accused of just about everything, by enemies standing to gain substantially by his downfall. The most common refrain is “everybody knows it”. Still, he stands.
  5. Recently, our esteemed junior senator from upstate NY was caught entering and completely disregarding a local restaurant’s mask rules. The rules are in place because the governor of NY required businesses to have rules in place under threat of civil penalty. So, to sum it up, one of the most powerful politicians in the country, read in to many of the high level briefings about COVID unavailable to ordinary citizens, in a state with a governor for. Her party demanding compliance, chose to flagrantly disregard the mask mandate. This occurred within 15 miles of the gov mansion and seat of power in NYS. When you follow the actions v the words, you learn an awful lot about what they really think about the dangers posed by this virus. We’ll call this item number 314 on the top 500 list of COVID hypocrisy. https://nypost.com/2022/01/15/kirsten-gillibrand-walks-maskless-through-ny-restaurant/amp/
  6. She also found the allegations of sexual assault against Biden credible, his relationship with segregationists troubling, and his history of being on the wrong side of legislation as it relates to the inner city as troubling. The only thing that changed her perspective was when he offered her something of value. But let’s just pretend that never happens in politics.
  7. National security adviser says this was a terrorist attack.
  8. I feel like I’m reading the secret journal of a young Niagara Bill Kardashian here. What’s this all about? What’s got you all turnt up here my friend?
  9. Most folks go through life without a problem with their neighbors or other members of society. We don’t have rioting or fights on very street corner. Most men aren’t out abusing women, most women aren’t dumping their children in dumpsters. Unfortunately, stories of most folks getting along for decades at a time don’t help to move a product that some people are trying to sell.
  10. Members of the media, with informants far and wide, and investigate skills to rival the best law enforcement officials of our time….had no idea that roughly 1 in 2 COVID patients were not in for COVID treatment at all. No insiders? No whistleblowers? No deep dives into one of the most incredible stories of our time? That seems preposterous. I see one of two scenarios here: 1. Abject systemic top-down incompetence; 2. Complicity in propagating the story when it made sense for them to do so;
  11. Gee…it’s like suddenly, in the January before the midterms, things that simple folk already knew were worth discussing suddenly are worth talking about. The CDC has more variants than the COVIDS.
  12. Cole Beasley wasn’t the problem. He’s just a guy with a voice who chose to use it. I really have seen zero pushback from his teammates that indicate he was persona non grata. I have seen lots of people on the board with feedback ranging from support of Beasley to support of people who booed him. The vitriol came from that crowd. What struck me as weird was as the season ended, it seemed to me the tone changed from some folks being up in arms about Beasley and the health and safety of fellow man to hand wringing about the availability of a gladiator(s) to perform in the Coliseum on any given Sunday.
  13. Sounds like Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite taking about throwing a ball over mountains, if Uncle Rico was 98 years old in the movie.
  14. That goes both ways though. The folks upset about the Redskins name for decades. Lots of smoke, very little fire. The initiative to change the name went on for a very long time, had virtually no impact on the success of the franchise. Had the Skins remained the Skins, those folks would still be watching.
  15. You’re correct here. Liz Warren and Amy Klobuchar, among others, complained about election security prior to the elections. I have the test run as Russiagate. It was incredibly successful for the Ds, so successful in fact that in spite of Mueller finding nahzink, Ds in this country bought it hook line and sinker.
  16. Tentatively confirmed, though my investigation is ongoing.
  17. You’re focusing on politics, and I disagree that many of these issues are political. Be that as it may, you’re viewing this through the wrong lens. When issues become large enough to reduce the inherent value of what amounts to entertainment, it’s no longer enjoyable.
  18. That seems reasonable, though some people prefer to complain, unsubscribe, discontinue attending games or stop watching. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that.
  19. I think it’s incumbent on reasonable people to infer “I think…” was the unwritten or unspoken part of a declaration like the one GB made. It really doesn’t even matter if he would object to that thought process, I’m only responsible for me here. I acknowledged that I understood people might see things differently partly because of the art of civility, partly because it’s obvious people will.
  20. Real nice. I already acknowledged I wasn’t part of the political party that advocates soccer knife fights, post-match-pig-stickers. Now what do I do? I feel cheated. Convinced? No.
  21. Bill, I think you’re one of the best posters on the board and there are many good ones here. I think many social issues are simply misidentified as political. I also think some people just don’t want to be burdened by social issues during what they perceive as an entertainment event. DJT inserting himself into the kneeling controversy…political. Kathy Hochul pimping for a Bills stadium in WNY…political. Lobbying by the NFL or NFLPA, tax status etc, political. Personally, I don’t see military flyovers, or military appreciation day as political. As for folks terminating a subscription to The Athletic because it’s owned by NYT, well, people vote with their checkbooks all day long. Sometimes those decisions are in conflict with other deeply held personal beliefs. People are complicated.
  22. In the original thread, you mentioned the political aspects of an anti-knife fight initiative (words I honestly never thought I would hear affiliated with a sports league), the new combine guidelines, and one other. Having done absolutely no research on my own, I’m wondering why you would see these as political? Were they initiatives started at the legislative level, championed by political leaders etc? I’m personally struggling with the political aspects of “don’t stab yer neighbors, men”. I do not disagree with your fundamental premise of the intersection of politics v sports, btw. I do think that some folks tend to conflate social issues with political issues where sports are concerned.
  23. Holy cow. With 9 months to prepare a statement since the tragic death of this officer, the governor of Massachusetts used him as a political prop for taking points on the January 6 riot ? What an incredible lack of respect for the man and his family. Several of us (liberals excluded) have remarked about the injuries, death, and destruction of the many, many riots that besieged this county prior to 1/6. My contention has been that members of government see themselves as above all that, maybe even as royalty with lives more valuable than that of the average citizen. This sort of proves the point, where the disposable people can be used as they see fit. When the narrative doesn’t fit, they just bend the facts. All the dead and injured across the county and this idiot can’t tell one from another.
