No football til mid October??? -Carucci
plenzmd1 replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
man, I must be really dumb. I thought the worry was this thing comes BACK in the fall, after it dies down in the summer, and comes back to coincide with flu season. Does this plan not start up exactly when Fuaci said this thig is coming back? 3 things here 1) You can be damn sure EVERONE is getting a flu shot this year..just as a civic duty. I never get a flu shot, will this year. 2) Would it not make sense to start the season early, have training camps while the Covid is on summer vacation, and pause the season if outbreaks start to happen in November and December? 3) I am still optimistic we will have herd immunity over the next 4 months..games will be held as normal, must vulnerable will be asked to stay at home, temps will be taken at gate ( for appearances only) and masks will worn. How we gunna drink beers is a question, but I am sure some genius will figure that out -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Yep, it is interesting. 5 weeks ago I would have said they were nuts , now I think it is the correct approach. BTW, everyone who believes the above, and is under 45, should sign up for this. I am 57, and would if they allowed it. interesting approach , https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2020/04/27/vaccine-infection-volunteer-coronavirus/ -

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

without a doubt that is a problem with regards to the testing. ut i posted yesterday the Virginia Department of Health weekly Influenza report. I will post here as well https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/content/uploads/sites/3/2019/12/Weekly-Influenza-Activity-Report.pdf Of note to me, 2 new cases of all types of influenza since week 13(March 23rd) and zero deaths , after what had been a spike in week 13 to over 150 deaths that week.(pg 6) Now, i dont' know why that happened, but i highly suspect is not just cause Covid eliminates Influenza from society. Those numbers went somewhere. And of note to me, even if you accept Virginia numbers at 492 dead from Covid with just about 13K positives, influenza form that report had 2500 dead from 13K positives..granted over a much longer period of time. Add in the relatively universally accepted notion that many, many more people are positive yet asymptomatic for Covid , possibly by 50X, and morbidity rates are way below what was expected, and that's a great thing! That what science is supposed to be..make hypothesis, and change as the statistical and empirical evidence changes. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

I dont follow the logic in this article, or come to this conclusion Here ia a quote from that article That seems to me the very argument that people like me are making...that the number of other deaths is spiking precisely because of the lockdown measures, but those deaths are somehow not relevant when we look at the decisions on how to move forward. Seems an illogical argument to me..ceratinly not one weighed in favor of the greater good. BTW, kinda of a weird and morbid argument in there that organ donations are down, partly due to less accidents. So the argument i guess is one person dies of an accident, but saves 3 lives with organ donations..net positive for society??? -

i am not 100% sure on all Nordic countries, but the article does state the following so based on that limited sample size of 3, would seem they have about 2x that of Finland and Denmark, which obviously would not be a good thing . Having said that, their strategy , I think, and I may be wrong, is that yes , we have higher death rates initially, (albeit most in elderly care homes)... but all the while building herd immunity , which in theory will translate to a much shorter period of time that death rates spike, will require less time of extreme social distancing, and at the end of the "covid period" the death rate will be the same..but without the extreme economic "hard stop". -

That will never happen, but call a spade a spade ! This poop is driving me nuts the refusal of the people who 5 weeks aha were adamant “ science needs to lead” now don’t want science to lead. ylu should read my post in Stats thread, the numbers there are making my head explode. and BTW, I voted for Northam. -

I don’t think I explained myself well. Texas Gov shut down his state harder than VA governor. Now Texas is “ opening “ up basically to same standards that VA has while “ not open”. Texas Governor gets blasted for opening too soon, VA governor has been widely praised. Texas is Republican, VA gov is Dem. -

The outrage over the Texas opening was a shock to me. In VA, state and local parks never closed, most retail outside of large box clothing g store branded themselves as essential, both commercial and residential construction continuing unabated afaik, All things , again afaik, Texas has closed down and is now reopening. Texas governor taking heat for opening too soon, VA governor praised for his response. wonder what the difference is? -
I don't know where to post this, but will do it here and maybe someone like @Hapless Bills Fan can help me interpret. Did not want to put on main board as some may think it political. https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/content/uploads/sites/3/2019/12/Weekly-Influenza-Activity-Report.pdf Here is a report from VA on influenza and pneumonia deaths in 2019-2020 flu season for Virginia. As seen on page 6 of the report, 2695 deaths so far. Of that, 6 pediatric deaths . Interesting that that number was climbing from 100 in week 10, to 150 in week 13..to almost zero in week 16. Week 13 BTW was March 23rd. As of today, VA has 436 deaths from Covid, so about 1/5th. Certainly understand different time frame..but could some of those flu deaths now be included in the Covid deaths? As well, just about 13K confirmed cases for both infections, and it seems readily apparent that many many more people are asymptomatic with Covid that regular influenza. Would that not indicate morbidity rates are way BELOW flu? What am i missing here? Also, have the news on in the background...VA has over 6K hospital beds available, and only 20% of available entilaters are being used. BTW, i am not one who thinks the social distancing was wrong, just wondering when these types of numbers start to get factored into decsion making.

A Few Scattered Thoughts About The Draft.....
plenzmd1 replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I say no..i think QBs that are not mobile stand a much better chance of getting hurt. https://www.businessinsider.com/quarterback-injuries-ben-roethlisberger-drew-brees-nick-foles-injury-update-2019-9 I know anecdotal, but look at this article from last year. Which one of these guys is a runnng QB? I think the idea that runing/mobile QBs get hurt more is akin to TOP results in wins. -
Texans sign Laremy Tunsil to huge extension
plenzmd1 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, technically would not have been a holdout, just that he would not sign tag New way contracts for the good players are being structured. Whats happening is the players started to understand the 5 year deals were for the most part 3 year deals, with the last two being really being club options. And they got massive signing bonuses in lieu of the last two years being guaranteed..so i was never one to complain when they would get cut and people would whine it was not fair..players had to honor contract, but not clubs. Hog wash, everyone understood the structure and why it was . Now i am talking 2nd contracts, not rookie deals. Management was happy with that arrangement, as were agents..deals looked bigger! But players have gotten smarter, and it really was Sammy a couple years back started the trend. Take a 3 year deal, most of it guaranteed, much smaller signing bonus, get another crack at the apple with a big pay day while you are still under 30. Smart for the players. All this trend has really done is knock out the club option. -

Truly can not think of one that I had a chance to go and did not and regret it...has to be some, just cannot remember Funny you say the Dead..one of my most disappointing shows, but prolly more my fault than theirs. It was in the Aud, sometime between 78 and 80..winter. I had done a double for swim, got out of afternoon practice and str8 in car to the Aud, mayhaps smoked something and and some libations on the way..and i fell asleep during the concert. Worst was prolly Steven Stills in the early 80's . -

If you want a facinating look at overpopulation, and the dude who prolly prevented it based on food supply, this is a pretty fascinating doc. https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/man-who-tried-to-feed-the-world/ Watched this the other night on PBS, may also be on your local PBS now
