The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
plenzmd1 replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
@Magox....i think all that study is nixed cause it does not say specifically outdoor stadiums are safe...and I need someone to come to that conclusion before July 1 please! Make my summer way better knowing we be at the home opener. Interesting stuff in there..all i can say is good thing I did not become a data scientist..chart reading and extrapolation not exactly my strong suit! -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Hey now, I want to keep everything shut down as I am in that plus 50 group! I have had two good friends contract the virus..one was one of the very first positives in central VA, I actually golfed with him the week before..and we certainly took ZERO precautions we take now...he needed a few days of ICU and was really sick, but no one in his house tested positive after. Fully recovered now Another friend has a compromised system I guess as she only has one lung, but is in good shape...she was sick , but never where she was prompted to go to the emergency. Both her husband and two twenty something children tested negative after she did as well. Anecdotal for sure, just thought would post here. I agree on the schools and public transport..elevators gunna be a challenge in urban areas. Now wait a minute, you claiming Trump is a poor , rational black woman?? -

the last one of these thongs i watched was the campaign video one. Reid absolutly asked the stupid question to Fauci if was being presuured to recant or clarify something, Trump put up his campaign video..and Reid correctly called him out saying "what did you do in February"...it was a completely blank time line in the campaign ad. I agree about looking for a soundbite to fit the narrative, and Trump was doing the same thing. It's why i stopped watching that very day, the whole spectacle , to me , was not a productive exercise for people trying to learn solid facts . -

I will preface this by saying i stopped watching or caring what went on those conferences a couple weeks ago. I dont think either one of them were nasty, just tough.I especially don't care where someone was born. Watch the American Experince Great War on how dangerous that can be. Reid asked the one stupid question to Fauci, but outside of that they wanted real answers on tough questions Trump did not want to answer..he wanted rallies, they wanted answers. -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Funny, wife and i were talking about this last night. In 2009, the IMHEsaid as many as 3-4M million would die worldwide from swine flu, and it would affect so many young people. Projected to sweep through schools like wildfire. Yet i don't remember any talks of schools being closed, and my kids would have been 10 and 8 at the time. I don't remember any talk of shutting the economy down. Now we have a visus that dispropotionally affects our older citizens, those often at end of life situations , and yet the response and fear seems driven by so much more fear. Now, we had the IMHE model being pushed early, disseminated to vast majority of people via their preferred social media feed, then their thinking being reaffirmed by whatever TV news they watched..CNN reafirming the worst case, Fox opinion folks denying it was anything at all, People dug in on both sides. I think the big difference was social media. Twitter was in its infancy, barely anyone was using it outside bleeding edge adopters. Facebook was still centered around teenagers and very young adults. In my rather scientific conclusion?..i think it this virus happens before 2015, we would just be going about business. Some articles about the 2009 Swine Flu projections and such https://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/08/24/us.swine.flu.projections/index.html https://www.cato.org/blog/how-one-model-simulated-22-million-us-deaths-covid-19 -

sucks, just went through 3 pages in less than a minute. This used to be a thread one could learn from, no longer -
He did go 11-5 with Matt Cassell as well. And good point on free agency, i really never thought of it that way. Back in the day as well, teams could stash players on IR as well. For most of the 80's, only had to miss 4 games, and could bring back 5 guys. JKC used this like a champ, helped the Skins win the 3 Super Bowls( as did strikes) .But BB still number 1 no doubt. I agree.

I, like most people of refined taste , would never eat fish out of a can. If I am having a tuna salad, would be a seared tuna steak over a nice base of greens and a vinaigrette! ya do have me in the tartar, fish fry not the same without it.

That is like saying there is an appropriate level of breading for your wings. The answer is fish and mayo do not go together under any circumstances. Period, end of story!

Not trying to get testy, but the problem we ALL have right now is this has become a political battle. And I , like you, want it to be based on science, wherever that may lead. Hopefully we as a country can get there. Be great if we had enough tests for everyone to do everyday, but I don’t that realistic. Hospitalizations is the key, I think, and ICU usage. back to football, I said lest week I think they strongly encourage no one over 65 or any other high risk group attend the games ( sorry @Augie, you can come next year) have temp checks at gate ( for appearances only) , masks will be highly encouraged, and we need to figure out the beer situation!

Hmm, in a steak or raw on a plate with chopsticks ... I truly think I would rather snuggle for a long night of passionate love making with TB12 than eat canned tuna. Add in a psycho like @Seasons1992 putting Miracle whip in it, and we might just have a cure for the Covid, that would kill every living thing it came in contact with.

PLayers lives dont count? PLayers relatives lives dont count? Equipment managers lives dont count? Put people at risk just sos you can have your football? It is either safe to play or it is not. No plyer should have to make a choice between seeing his loved ones for 6 months or playing. Make a decision one way or the otheer

extrapolated out does not mean "it happens". IHow about docs and experts on the front line, just not in NYC..does that count as "science"..or because it does not agree with your preconcived notion it is no longer "science". https://www.pennlive.com/news/2020/04/umpc-argues-covid-19-not-as-deadly-as-feared-says-its-hospitals-will-shift-back-to-normal.html?outputType=amp&__twitter_impression=true How about the former chief of Neuroradiology at that bastion of lies ..Stanford University https://thehill.com/opinion/healthcare/494034-the-data-are-in-stop-the-panic-and-end-the-total-isolation I made my payments..and fuly plan on being there in September

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

But that aint opening it, it is trying to middle it, which IMHO, will only prolong the inevitable. As I have said , I 100% support the decisions that have been to date in terms of closing etc based on the data that was avaialble then. But new data is suggesting a change in approach is needed and warranted. BTW, i am no expert, but I suggest @Chef Jim could weigh in on just how many restaurants can survive at 50% of capacity, same with so many businesses, including universities. Who gunna pay the rent? The company thats owns the building, how they gunna pay their bills? They go out of business, how their employees gunna eat? Death rate gunna go up? Yep, no doubt. To levels that one would think is worth abandoning our way of life and people like me seeing their retirement go up in smoke? No freaking way. If we want to do the above as you suggest, lets not middle it and just shut down the whole shooting match for 3 weeks. Give everyone two days to gather essential food items and medical supplies, then dont allow anyone outside except for health care workers. Not sure where you live, but in Richmond VA yesterday..a state supposedly in a strict lockdown, every freaking store was packed yesterday not just grocery stores, but the mattress store, the granite counter store, the foot insert place, the nurseries were vertible hot spots so crowded. Lets just stop the pretence of being locked down and get on with it -

no absolutely everything within reason should be done to protect everyone, including high risk. But if we say everyone in that above is high risk, we ain't ever go back outside, let alone to work, restaurants etc. To me, it is incumbent on society to do as best we can, which does not mean it will be 100% effective, at securing our nursing homes as best we can. But we also need to be realistic. I cant speak or cite any stats other than what i know to be true in Henrico county..where I live outside of Richmond. 96 dead from Covid. Of that number, 54 in one nursing home about 2 miles from me, another 11 in a nursing home about 11 miles me. So that is over 2/3rds of deaths have come in a nursing home environment. From most studies I have read, average length of stay in a nursing home is 5 months until death...and prolly that number goes down in facilities that are state run, as both of those homes were I referenced. My point being i do not think we can as a nation of 300+M stay inside and crater an economy for generations to come based solely on how this virus is affecting those at end of life. I mean when does the "greater good" come into the conversation? -

Why? -
i mean its implied everywhere where he/they say...will come back kin the fall/winter for a 2nd wave no? https://www.foxcarolina.com/another-wave-of-coronavirus-will-likely-hit-the-us-in-the-fall-heres-why-and/article_70074db9-abf2-50e6-ac57-9cab3ba36220.html https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2020-04-30/fauci-is-almost-certain-virus-will-return-in-winter-is-optimistic-about-a-vaccine-video https://thehill.com/changing-america/resilience/natural-disasters/495211-fauci-says-second-wave-of-coronavirus-is "I’m almost certain it will come back. The virus is so transmissible and it’s globally spread,” Fauci said,

so do I . Was traveling last year, layover in Atlanta for a couple hours( damn i could use a nice 2 hour layover in the ATL right about now). Between here and twitter, everyone had the the Thanksgiving game nailed...really nice bartender bet $20, as he could not conceive the NFL would put the Bills on Thanksgiving day, got my Venmo during the flight! Awesome! Why do you guys think this? I think by then we will have learned to deal with the risk, have some other therapeutics etc, so i see no disruption at all. Having said that, Fauci and Birx and other experts have all univesally agreed there will be a "summer break" from the virus, but a second wave will prolly coincide with flu season..which starts in late October. So what does not playing in September gain ? Why start up right when this thing is supposed to return? Said in the other thread, if what Fauci says is true, should start training camp early July, stary season mid August...have contingency plans if need to shut down for 4 weeks in December or soemthing I thnk just the opposite..no way there are NOT fans in the stands
