Playoff Solutions Assuming they don’t replay the Bengals game.
zow2 replied to Locomark's topic in The Stadium Wall
The fairest thing to do is give Kansas City the week off and let the Raiders go into their off-season. Then if Cincinnati wins and Buffalo loses, use strength of victory to seed the teams 🙂 -
I felt early on that this game will never be made up and still believe that. But i will say this… there has been a significant groundswell today of national media and fans saying this game must be played no matter what the inconvenience is for the NFL. I do think the NFL is taking the temperature of the room so to speak, and this could tilt the scales to replaying it.

Agreed. You just can’t have the Bills/Bengals playing a week 19 game while one of them maybe both have to play week 20, while the opponent is sitting with their feet up chillin, studying film and healing up. I’d rather the Bills be awarded the 3 seed now and be able to play the New England game as they see fit. -
That's why i said yesterday that the Bills (by today)should go all in 100% with game prep for NE. Not doing this could leave them open to being unprepared mentally and physically to play....which could lead to more injuries and not just a beating. The wishy washy stuff won't fly here. It's dangerous. They should either be 100% in, or the NE game should have been called off by today.

The Bengals were definitely giving extra physicality on their tackles...and then of course the dirty shot on Taron and the barrel roll nonsense on Allen. The Bills already lost Taron and Hamlin nearly lost his life in a freak accident. We will never know but this game being postponed in the most horrible of circumstances could have saved the Bills from even more injuries.

It's interesting, the vast majority of national "takes" that I've heard are very pro Bills. If both KC and Buffalo win this weekend, the neutral fans and media want the Bills to have the 1 seed. I think it's a combination of feeling bad for the Bills situation plus people just don't want KC getting to play important games in Arrowhead this year. They want something different.

Reminds me of when the Sabres didn't help out Millsy in Boston after he was roughed up. They were a bunch of P*ssies.

I read somewhere that if tied with the same record Bills and Bengals would have the same conference record and same common opponents records. So if it comes down to strength of victory, our Rams and Bears games drag the Bills down below Cinci. -

Forget the Bengals game. That will never be made up. At this point I'm just wondering if the Bills will be prepared to play New England. That's definitely not a given that Buffalo players will be in a frame of mind to play at all. -
Not resuming the game is as much of a no-brainer as postponing the game last night. I expect them to announce a tie, no contest or something similar. They will figure out who gets seeded where based on week 18 results...and some team(s) fans may not be happy but the NFL will do the best they can. And every team and fanbase involved will live with it and be OK.

It's an unprecedented situation. I think there should be a phone call behind the scenes with all the owners...or at least the AFC owners to take a vote on how to handle this. Maybe lay out a few different scenarios and come to some consensus. -
I pretty much agree. Buffalo came out tactical and measured... and Cincinnati came out wanting to be physical and pound us. It reminded me of NHL hockey when your hear coaches always say, be physical and "finish your checks". Well, the Bengals were finishing their checks so to speak... and very borderline I might add. I think Buffalo would have eventually grabbed the momentum and taken advantage of Cincinnati's aggressiveness.

They aren't playing this game on Wednesday and then Bills/Bengals play again on Sunday. I just don't see them putting either team in that position. You have competitive ramifications for New England, KC, Pittsburgh, Miami, Ravens, etc based on the outcomes. What's the issue with declaring the game a tie? whatever they can do to not be unfair to Cinci or KC is probably the most fair scenario. And keep the competitive balance for Sunday's games by giving both teams the full 6 days to mentally and physically prepare to play again. -
Dominique Foxworth is going off on ESPN Get UP this morning. Basically he says there is no cap on the amount of risk these players are taking.. and there's some fake outrage last night at the NFL because people act like they care but they really don't. They just want the game. And some fans call the players greedy during CBA negotiations, etc.. when they are taking all the risks and no one else takes any physical risk. So being a former Union rep he's frustrated..

I think it goes without saying that Hamlin is the most important thing and him walking out of that hospital far outweighs anything else. But the NFL will go on and it's worth having a thread about the scenarios. I've thought from the beginning the Bills and Bengals won't resume this game. The players and staff are not up to it this week and they aren't going to delay the start of the playoffs for one game. I also don't believe the Bills will have to forfeit this game. They might choose to forfeit the New England game...who knows? Whatever they do needs to be fair for Cinci and KC.. I'm personally OK with whatever is decided. If the Bills are given the 3 seed so be it. The importance of the 1 seed is just not that important anymore. -

Other people mentioned there are Covid rules in the books for a team or teams not being able to play a full season. and they could use those same rules or tie breakers. -
Such a sad night. i don’t think the Bills and Cinci will be playing again unless it’s a playoff game. They will play 16 games. The league will return week 18 and i think the NFL will try to figure out the fairest way to decide the 1 seed based on win % or AFC win%. and we will live with the results and hope and pray our guy walks out of the hospital.

It’s not gonna happen. The Bills and Bengals won’t see each other again unless it’s a playoff game. This will be considered a tie or forfeit or they will figure out the fairest way to determine 1 seed with two teams playing only 16 games. It’s unprecedented but they aren’t going to push the league back for 1 game or shoe horn in this game on a short week. -

Really worried. Seeing on Twitter that there really hasn’t been any positive updates even though a “friend” tweeted something out.
