McDermott Coaching Style - Good or Bad
BuffalothruMyVeins replied to PolishDave's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get what you're saying, but let's not get TOO worried here, and understand how an NFL defense works. You have to have A scheme, one way or another. You have to have certain gaps filled, and certain places on the field covered. If 9 men on defense are the best at rushing the passer, or dropping into a deep zone, than good for them, but you will always allow the defense to score, because the gaps are not plugged, or the secondary is not home. Your "scheme" has to get the dirty work done before you start worrying about featuring a player and their unique skill sets. Remember, guys like Bruschi and Vrabel were 4-3 DEs that Belicheck came in, with his "system", and put them into place to fit HIM, and was very successful. So don't despair. -

Great work Astro, thank you for your time you put into these things. Just something I noticed, though- cell H-12 should read "Pegula & McDermott visit". -
Bills sign DE Ian Seau

I'm looking forward to Shawne Merriman's roid mule's little brother to be signed, too. I hear he has quick eyes. -
Eh I think that that's a little unfair. He wasn't a great head coach, but by all accounts he was much less bluster than in his early Jets days, and genuinely a good guy. He took a couple years away that's could have spent towards building a better team, with another coach, but I don't wish him bad, and think he will be good at his new role.

OH NO! NOW HOW WILL YOU KNOW WHEN EVERY. SINGLE. GUEST WALKS INTO THE STUDIO?? By the hey, did I miss something about shows not being in the audiovault anymore, except for just Brew it? I see they have some shows available in podcast form to download on a podcast app, but the audio Vault does not seem to carry anything anymore. Am I the only one seeing this?

Bills at Patriots, November 29, 1998 ending

Are we really going to start a list of frustrating losses? The season starts in only 5 1/2 months, I don't think we will have enough time to go over all of them. -

Would love to have him back, 3 years for $17M, $7M guaranteed, and let him play the Kuechly role. -
Isn't the concept of the Denver Kubiak/Shannahan/Dennison offenses predicated on taking 1 cut, and getting upfield... whereas Shady DOES like to dance, but usually with success. We will see, but I feel like he could be very successful in this offense, but may not be TAYLOR MADE for it (no pun intended.) I actually think Gillislee is a better fit for the offense, but obviously he doesn't have quite the home run threat that Shady does, and is the clear #2 behind him, so will get probably 1/3 of the attempts Shady does.

Pats trade for TE Dwayne Allen
BuffalothruMyVeins replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They don't have more rights than wrongs, but they certainly have more at-bats with this type of move, to allow for them to be right often enough to make it a successful business model of talent aquisition. They will trade back in the 1st round and require another 4th round pick, somewhat making this trade a wash. -
Pats trade for TE Dwayne Allen
BuffalothruMyVeins replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. The Colts receive a 4th round pick. The Patriots receive Allen and a 6th round pick. -
Likely was not extremely cost-efficient, with Ragland due to come back. I would have like to have him back, but maybe not at, like, 7-8 million, like it might have cost.

Well, this is somewhat the nature of the league. You can't keep everyone. So, if we DO give Gilmore his $13M/yr. deal, we now have about $3M remaining in cap room. Yes, we could restructure a guy, or release a guy, but all of that either creates ANOTHER hole, or kicks the can down the road on a bad salary cap situation. We would now keep Gilmore, but have to let go 3 or 4 other guys that we can't afford to re-sign... thus letting THOSE draft picks walk. SOMEBODY is going to walk. The only other option is that the players that we draft SUCK and they are able to be re-signed at a lower price. Which would you prefer? -
Mike Gillisllee - Combine News
BuffalothruMyVeins replied to Fixxxer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gillislee is not an UFA, he is a RFA, which means that he can be tendered anywhere from around $800k-$2.5m-ish, if I remember right. Another team could sign him, but if he is given any of the higher designations, we would be reimbursed anywhere from a 2nd round pick, or a 1st round pick, to even a 1st AND 3rd round pick. So he's not going anywhere unless we get very well reimbursed. At least, I know this used to be how that RFA signing went... has it changed? I don't see what the worry is, here. -
Not really- our offensive production did not seem to take much of a hit, if at all, with Grey at C. I'm not saying we SHOULD cut Wood, but I think Grey proved himself capible... at least as long as Kromer was here. Hopefully he wasn't the product of an OL coach who has since left.
-
Sure! Sign him to a 6 year extention, give him 12 million bonus and league minimum guaranteed, and he will likely retire after this season, but only be like a 2.5m hit this season. That gives us another 6 million in cap room, which could allow them to re-sign Gilmore, as well as Tyrod. Most likely league rules against such a contract, though.

Wood Salary Cap Cut? Sign Groy?
BuffalothruMyVeins replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I feel that you can pay handsomely a C if you don't have at least anot average QB, to aide in line calls and pre-play reading the defense... but if you have that average or better QB, you both don't need that premium C, and can't afford him once you're paying that QB. The problem arises when you pay a quarterback that might not meet the standard all of that money, and in doing so, lose the players around him that were safety nets that made the QB seem average. -
