Do We Draft 2 Recievers Now?
DreamOnDan replied to SouthTownBills51's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Man do I hope so! How about a trade down with Dallas? Somehow getting their first two picks, and then draft james hardy and mario manningham. Then take the best Te available like a Martellus Bennett, Fred Davis, or Dustin Keller in rd 2... That would be awesome!!!! -
As much as I'm not in agreement of drafting cb in rd 1, I like this draft. DRC is the only cb I'd be happy with the Bills drafting in the first 3 rds. After rd 3 I'd be happy with whoevever dropped, unless the top center or fullback is still available. It would be hard to decide between Bennett or a tall wr in the 2nd rd. I think the Bills should go WR in rd 1, TE in rd 2, QB or C in rd 3, C or FB in rd 4, LB in rd 5, OL in rd 6, and both CB and DE in rd 7 My Dream draft would go something like James Hardy, Martellus Bennett, Josh Johnson, Owen schmitt, Beau Bell or Big physical lb, Best center available, physical small school cb and the same type of De

Losman I guess... If Kansas City dropped from 5 to 11, My guess is that they could still grab Jeff Otah who some analysts are predicting the pick be at 5. My guess is that it would take a lot more than Losman and a future 4th to move up to 5. More Like Losman and two thirds or Losman and a conditional pick of sorts.

Teams drafting top 15 WRs or CBs since 2000
DreamOnDan replied to AKC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey you make some great points and your research must have taken a while. I totally agree that if I owned the franchise, it would be a good business decision to draft a lineman with every first rd pick possible. I mean, this game is a dogfight, it is won in the trenches and 300 lb nasty athletes are few and far between. If the team decided to take on this philosophy it would take about 3-4 years and we would really start to see the consistency, and stability ultimately leading to a far more competitive team week in and week out. With all that being said, I feel that as a fan, I want to see the team win now. It is hard to disagree that our offense is missing a big target more than it is in need of line help. As a fan, this team is growing boring to watch. I get caught up in how hard they fought or how hard they tried. I'm much rather get caught up in how bad asz we are. As I look back to last season, the memory that I have is thinking over and over to myself "Is this really a team that was built to win in Buffalo? I mean who are we fooling? Look at the Browns... Giants... These teams are built to win in bad weather. But the Buffalo Bills have been built like a dome team for just about as long as Wade Phillips has been gone." I felt as if the Bills were Appalacia state, they were smaller, less talented, and vanilla any way you look at it. But well coached nonetheless. If everything went right, and nobody turned the ball over we had a chance. But when we lined up, mono e mono, Bad weather, december. We had nowhere to go. We had no body wide enough to shield a defender and catch a ball. We had nobody tall enough to throw a seem pass to or a jump ball. Or even a stop route along the sideline for that matter. I truely feel that Either a awesome TE or a Big James Hardy type of reciever is excactly what this team needs. More than anything, so we can't risk not getting our guy. -
Thats great! He is pretty good. He is the cornerback formally known as "William Peterson" I've heard of him!

Here's an article that previews 10 wide receivers and

If I were GM I'd draft James Hardy. He is the future star of this class! Seems like he has some sick talent -
thanks good stuff. I hope we trade down and get more picks

Does anybodsy else think that year to year
DreamOnDan replied to DreamOnDan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I mainly just word puked that whole point. But If there was some research done, I bet there is some truth to all of it! Totally makes sense with the Ginn pick. I guess I'm having a hard time believing that there isn't a good wr in this draft. Especially when there is 4 mega talents in my opinion... -
I hope that the Cowboys offer both of their first rd picks for our 1st. I'd take it no matter who is on the board. Then I would draft 2 wr in the first rd.
-
I feel like there is a lot of talent in the top 5 at every position of every draft and the big boards change year to year with how well the previous rookie class produced. Thus overvaluing the bottom half of the top ten players at each position that produced well the previous year. Like for instance, Adrian Peterson and Lynch both produced very well last year so now guys like Felix Jones from Arkansas gets slipped into the bottom of the first rd instead of lasting til rd 3. While Calvin Johnson with all the hype didn't produce so now all of the wr get bottom first grades. I think the secret to drafting in the 2-4th rds is realizing what positions are over and under valued and doing the opposite of everyone else. Drafting within the top 5 at their positions at each pick, while the Cowboys and Redskins of the league hope to draft the next Adrian Peterson or Patrick Willis and so on. The only problem with that theory is that you have to get your #1 need with the first rd pick and then let everything else fall into place. Which maybe isn't a problem at all. What do you think?

I agree with most of whay you said. But might I add: Crumpler would be better than what we have and he signed a cheap 2 year contract. It wuld not mean we couldn't put the same emphasis on the TE positon in the draft. I can't see the bad in adding Johnson for one year. Its not like he signed a one year 7 million deal. I mean the whole subject of this post is if there is so much money where is it gonna go? Try answering that one... Randy Moss would work for any team that has a qb. Assuming Moss wouldn't work here is a slap in Trents face. Trent Green is by far the most valuable backup qb that was on the market. He actually wants a backup job, and would be a great mentor to Trent. Which is more important than anything in his career. It doesn't make Losman any less valuable. His value is determined by his talent. It isn't as high as you think it is. Hackett is not more of a slot guy. You obviously haven't watched him play. As a matter of fact when he was in the starting line up he produced better than Lee Evans did almost every week. He has size, speed, and if the Bills sign him you'll be ecstatic. He is better than Reed! We can afford both. Lorenzo Neal= man bear pig. Seriously, I would not want to run into a hole and meet him head on. How could you not want him mentoring Lynch? He blocked for LT for crying out loud. That being said. I'm not unhappy with staying put either. Its just that with 31 million out there to spend, there are some pieces that seem to fit. These short term deals don't put teams in cap hell. I mean who would you rather spend the money on? Then how much is left after you spend it on them? My guess is a lot. I can see having 10 million in cap space but comon. You can't tell me that these would be bad additions.

I've been thinking about this for a long time.. A trade down would make this so possible. I think that the Bills fell in love with having all of those picks and will do anything possible to get them back. Then I wouldn't rule out drafting 2 wr within the first 3 picks. See ya later Lee Evans! Not that I don't want Lee. Its just that I think that he is replacable givin the contract situation and all those big fast wr in the draft...
-
I'd been pretty happy with Crumpler for 2 years... Heard an interview with Bryant Johnson and he said that he and his agent offered the Bills the same 1 year deal that he signed there. That wouldn't of been so bad. I would have offered fitzgerald money to Moss. Would have loved to sign trent Green for 3 years. DJ Hackett remains out there. I'd offer him a 2 year 7 million to be our backup to Lee and whoever they draft. Lorenzo Neal and Tony Richardson were both available, I love to have Neal who hasn't signed anywhere yet.

Mike Maycock's Top 5 At Each Position.
DreamOnDan replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mayock is an idiot! He will be red with embarrassement all draft. Mark my words. He will be way off a lot. Kiper too -
If Gholston was at 11 the price to trade up would be very high. I'd at least see what they are... Not gonna happen though!
-
That is Very true, But doesn't even come close to changing my opinion... Every team also chooses what positions are important enough to be deep at. I hope that this all of a sudden becomes one of them. Currently we have not too many wr especially since Lee isn't even extended yet.
-
Not only would I be happy with a wr in the first, I prefer to draft one in the first 2 rds. We are not only missing a solid #2 we need a player for depth. We are one injury away from not having a #1 or #2 all over again. Draft the big guy #1 whoever it is they like. And then if one falls to us in the second rd draft him too. I'd be happy with a Kelly and any other one of the top 8 wr. But the bottom half of the top 8 look like candidates for a #1 wr or slot. Let Roscoe return kickoffs, bump him to #4 and that would make our offense explosive. Add a TE and WOW!
-
We'll see. I agree that it might not be Flowers that falls. Somebody will fall though. But I for one, think Mayock is an idiot. He looked real bad after the combine, and will be red with embarrasement after the draft is over... He still won't bring Matt Ryan down from #1 and has Mendenhal aver McFadden still. Plus mario Manningham, the list goes on and on... Bottom line is, I agree with your point, but Mayock is an idiot!

added mock to original... Add yours too!
-
Within this directory, there are places you can do your own mock draft also
-
http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/2008/more_mockdrafts.cfm My 1st mock of this season: 1. WR- Malcolm Kelly Oklahoma 6-4 224 4.54 The one thing that almost every dominant offense has is a big, fast, and athletic wr. If Kelly doesn't run well at his pro day I'd assume we take a different wr. I like James Hardy but after watching the tape on Kelly I'm just too impressed. He has magnificent hands and uses his big body to shield defenders. Excactly what I want in a #2 wr who eventually will develope into a #1. I think that even if we sign a free agent wr we should still draft one of the three Kelly, Hardy, or Sweed with the Bills first pick. 2. TE- Martellus Bennett Texas A&M 6-6 259 4.68 #1 TE prospect gets leap frogged by Kellerand Davis. So we are left with the guy that fits the bills the best. Huuuuge upside, basketball background, and a big physical player. Knows how to use his mouth as well. 3. DB- Bandon Flowers Virginia Tech 5-10 189 4.55 Every year a top rated corner falls because of a poor combine performance. Luckily the Bills watch game tape because Brandon Flowers has all the intangleables at the cb position. He projects as a cover 2 corner and nickel back as a rookie. Has great short area quickness, anticipation, and is one of the best tackling cbs in the draft. That being said: Don't line him up against Randy Moss. He isn't very fast, and doesn't jump very well, but he does play much bigger than his size indicates. 4. WR- Jordy Nelson Kansas state 6-3 217 4.51 Was the biggest surprise wr at the senior bowl. Walk on player that had amazing college production. Hard worker, also has fantastic timing on his leaping ability, and exceptional hand eye coordination. Will slip a bit in the draft but is a very talented football player that will earn playing time and will be a steal at this pick. Runs consistent routes. Gives the Bills some depth at the thinnest and weakest position on the team. Will work hard on special teams as well. 4. (projected compensatory pick Mike Gandy) OG Chilo Rhachal Southern Cal 6-5 317 Rated as a top 5 guard prospect as an junior. Impressive 2007 college numbers with 77 pancakes and 0 sacks allowed. Bills are thrilled that he is available as he is stronger than most of the center projects (28 reps) and seems versatile enough to learn the position and take over for the departing Fowler.http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/profile.php?pyid=33616 5. LB Beau Bell UNLV 6-1 244 4.67 Projects to the middle but has played all three LB positions in college and would be a nice depth pick. He is a hard hitter who plays a lot like Mitchell. He is very tough and willing to play special teams with reckless abandon. Need pick with the departure of Both Haggan and Stamer. A late season knee sprain is rapidly dropping his stock and he should be fine before mini camps. 6. SS Caleb Campbell Army 6-2 229 4.57 Heady player that excells in the weight and class rooms. Has the size and speed combo to immeadiatly start on special teams. He plays mean and benched 225 24 times at the combine. Was once not even projected to be picked Caleb has impressed in nearly every aspect of the evaluation process. This would be a perfect replacement for Coy Wire. 7. OT Barry Richardson Clemson 6-7 320 5.45 Is a very confident player that will be coming in with a chip on his shoulder. Has the size and ability but needs to learn the game. Relies on size and strength instead of technique. Nonetheless he is a worth while selection and should provide another big body at the very thin tackle position on this team. 7. ( from eagles) QB Kyle Wright Miami 6-4 218 4.85 Once a top recruit, Miami's program let this poor young man down. Has enough physical ability to take a late round flyer on. He could turn some heads and get picked sooner than this... 7. ( projected comp pick Andre Davis) C Jamey Richard Buffalo 6-5 295 5.22 Needs to improve his strength as he hit 22 reps of 225. Local prospect that could get a look as a late pick. Impressed scouts at the combine finishing amongst the top ten in several categories. Could make the practice squad and eventually the roster. Seems more like a solid backup I used this site for the comp projections http://www.footballsfuture.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=208336 This took a long time... But I did a lot of research. What do you think?

I am sure that the Bills need to add 2 wr. If lee, the fa addition, or the rookie gets hurt.... We are right back where we started. My guess is Bryant wants a 5 year deal and the Bills want a 3 year deal. I see whatever free agent wr we add as a stop gap for the rookie we draft. I'm almost sure that the Bills will draft a wr within the first 3 rds even if we sign a fa.

That's Hilarious

One thing I'd be interested in knowing... How many STARS come out of the top 50 picks? I guess my point is, I'd rather take my chances, trust in my scouting department, and draft 10 guys that they think have star potential. I think we have poential STARs in Youboty, Simpson, Ellison, and potentially Pennington. The list goes on from previous picks that were made after the 50 mark. In my opinion, the top 50 guys don't pan out as often as we all wish...
