  1. This is coming from Hopkins or a suitor trying to put pressure on the Cardinals - except they don't have to trade him if they don't want to. Doesn't make much sense to think they will release him, just to eat the dead cap for fun. The Card's rookie GM could have shed some cap and picked up a mid round pick if he wanted to, but decided he'd rather dig in for an unrealistic trade haul so he could look cool. If the Cards don't eat some cap and accept less trade compensation before the draft, they probably just keep him. He's under contract for 2 more years anyway.
  2. We signed 2 guards and expect one of them to be a starter IMO. I'd pick up an OT early, but I don't think the Bills are interested in replacing Brown with an early pick. Personally, I would like to take a RT in Rd 1 so I hope I'm wrong, but we've seen Beane waste years waiting for Ford to pan out at any position before quitting on him. JSN would be great in rd 1, but he and Bijan aren't dropping, so the best you could do for offense early is pick up a TE2 without completely overdrafting someone. That's not exactly amazing value since we just extended Knox. I'd be super happy to draft one of the top 2 TEs, which I expect to be gone when we pick and run a bunch of 12 personnel, We have no DTs signed past this season and a rather big question mark at MLB + the value is there are those positions in the 1st 2 rds. Beane has drafted D in the first rd pretty much exclusively with the exception of Josh. Even if we draft a rd 2 or 3 receiver - McDermott is too conservative to play them over vets. I think there is a real argument to be made that the 1st 2 rds are likely to be D unless someone unexpectedly falls in our laps.
  3. I would have liked to have picked an OT Day 2 + for this one but the value was never there. I think Smith is an instant upgrade for a DL rotation that doesn't have a single player signed beyond this year. If we look at our cap situation and Beane's stated preference to replace high-priced vets with cheaper rookie contracts, I think this is it. Smith and Campbell are my instant impact players and I think Foskey is DE3 immediately. The rest are my preference at each position I think is a need.
  4. Player # 1 Zack Kuntz Player # 2 Jonathan Mingo
  5. The draft network
  6. He was on the team at the end of last year, he wouldn't count against the comp pick formula.
  7. Draft, Beane has always said you have to be able to rely on cheap labor through the draft.
  8. Happy to eat crow if I'm wrong, but I would be surprised if this gets done anytime soon, or even at all.
  9. Drew Sanders is 6'5 235, not a Milano-type. Sewell is more athletically limited than I would like.
  10. He's quoting the article, isn't he?
  11. Situation is what many here have been saying for a while - Rookie GM trying to play hardball with his pie in the sky wishes and other teams just sitting around waiting for him to admit he's being ridiculous. McCaffrey is 26, Hopkins is 30 and coming off an injury and a PED pop, even getting a 3rd for Hopkins would be above market rate for him right now because of his salary. McCaffrey had his contract restructured last season before the trade and his salary was $690,000; Hopkins has a base salary of $19.45M and $14.915M over the next 2 seasons, this is clearly a salary dump - He shouldn't be had for more than a 4th without AZ eating significant money, to think otherwise is ignorant by them. This is like people selling a house and trying to charge you a premium because they spent money wiring the house for audio and wifi - I don't care about your add-ons, the house value is determined by the comp market, not your feelings.
  12. This isn't Madden, you can't expect to draft 7-8 guys in a draft and have them all start; you have to bring in vets and supplement with rookies. Once you have a roster that is set you would expect to be bringing along your later round draft picks into starting positions while the Rd 1-3 can battle for their positions as starters.
  13. Too many people here being precious about the cap. Every year we fail to get a SB caliber supporting cast around Josh is another year of prime JA17 wasted, I'm more concerned about that number, since it's finite.
  14. Just extend DaQuan Jones and Micah Hyde 1 year each and drop their cap for this year, should give us another 8-9M with those two extensions.
  15. We have not done the best job in the draft, however the parameters of the 5 year period don't really fit well for this team during that time period. McBeane were in the process of completely rebuilding the roster 5 years ago. 2018 team above; there are only 2 starters on Offense and 5 starters on defense from that team currently on the roster and we drafted exactly 5 of those.
  16. We still don't have a MLB or RT
