March Movies: Ready Player One, Pacific Rim, & Tomb Raider
Mark Vader replied to Mark Vader's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I never thought I would see Bruce Willis & Elisabeth Shue cast as husband and wife. -
The Wolverines beat Sparty for the second time this year! That's only the 4th loss for Michigan State all season. Michigan is HOT going into the Big 10 tournament championship game. Even if the Wolverines lose tomorrow, they are peaking at the right time.

2018 Oscar Nominations: Predictions
Mark Vader replied to Mark Vader's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The whole "police are evil" message, is why this movie has gotten so revered. There are a few scenes that happen in "Three Billboards" that are so ridiculous, you cannot take the movie seriously, and yet the people who made it want us too. I agree that Sam Rockwell is great, and overall it has very good acting. It's the story that is absurd. -
2018 Oscar Nominations: Predictions
Mark Vader replied to Mark Vader's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Here are my predictions. Best Picture Who will win: "Three Billboards" Who should win: "Dunkirk" Cultural and political climate is more important than artistic vision. The Hollywood left hates the police, and "Three Billboards" delivers with their anti-police message, and that alone is enough for it to win best picture. Meanwhile, an artistic thrilling World War II tale like "Dunkirk" is brushed aside as "just another war movie." Best Director Who will win: Guillermo Del Toro Who should win: Christopher Nolan Del Toro's vision is undeniable, even if "The Shape of Water" may not be his best film. Regardless, the movie's message of tolerance will be highlighted for him winning. Sadly, Christopher Nolan will get ignored. Both men in my opinion are deserving candidates. Best Actor Who will win: Gary Oldman Who should win: Gary Oldman Long overdue for an Oscar, even though it's only his second nomination. The versatile and talented Oldman commands the screen in "Darkest Hour", and he leaves the rest of the nominees in the dust. Best Actress Who will win: Frances McDormand Who should win: Margot Robbie Everyone is going gaga over McDormand, and she will win easily, even though she has relegated herself to doing the same thing. Which is unfortunate for Margot Robbie, who gave such a breakout performance in "I, Tonya". The excuse will be that Robbie's time will come later. You could also make a strong case for Sally Hawkins. The anti-police movie is more important than a mockumentary. Best Supporting Actor Who will win: Sam Rockwell Who should win: Sam Rockwell Rockwell may be winning for the wrong movie(he was overlooked in "Moon"). Unless people feel that Willem Dafoe is overdue, this will be an easy win for Rockwell's unforgettable performance. Best Supporting Actress Who will win: Allison Janney Who should win: Allison Janney Another lock to win in a fairly weak group. Janney is just miles ahead in this race. Best Adapted Screenplay Who will win: Call Me By Your Name Who should win: Logan "Call Me By Your Name" has to win something, right? It would take real guts to give the award to the much deserving "Logan". Best Original Screenplay Who will win: Get Out Who should win: The Shape of Water It's sickening that a movie like "Get Out" is actually nominated in this category, what's even worse, is that it will actually win. Somehow this is more "original" than any of the other candidates. "The Shape of Water" has real originality. The rest of the rest... Cinematography: Will win: Blade Runner 2049 Should win: Dunkirk Score: Will win: The Shape of Water Should win: Dunkirk Make-up & Hair: Will win: Darkest Hour Should win: Darkest Hour Visual Effects: Will win: Blade Runner 2049 Should win: War for the Planet of the Apes -
The Oscars get handed out this weekend and the Spring Season of movies begins this month. Plenty of appetizers will be given to us before the main course of the Summer Season rolls around. Action movies are aplenty, like last year, the month of March feels like Summer is already starting. Some big names are there, but it's fairly even with a lot of up-and-comers as well. The most anticipated movie comes late in the month and is an adaptation of yet another young adult book. Warner Bros. & Dreamworks present and Steven Spielberg directs, "Ready Player One". When the creator of a virtual reality world called the OASIS dies, he releases a video in which he challenges all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune. Wade Watts finds the first clue and starts a race for the Egg. Starring Tye Sheridan, Letitia Wright, Hannah John-Kamen, Olivia Cooke, T.J. Miller, Ben Mendelsohn, Mark Rylance & Simon Pegg. The Jaegers & Kaijus are back in "Pacific Rim: Uprising". Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, reunites with Mako Mori to lead a new generation of Jaeger pilots, including rival Lambert and 15-year-old hacker Amara, against a new Kaiju threat. Starring Scott Eastwood, Adria Arjona, Tian Jing, Charlie Day, John Boyega & Rinko Kikuchi. Alicia Vikander stars in the re-boot of, "Tomb Raider". Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she finds herself on the island where her father disappeared. Also starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Dominic West, Hannah John-Kamen, Walton Goggins & Nick Frost. Jennifer Lawrence stars in "Red Sparrow". Ballerina Dominika Egorova is recruited to 'Sparrow School,' a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. Her first mission, targeting a C.I.A. agent, threatens to unravel the security of both nations. Also starring Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts & Charlotte Rampling. Bruce Willis stars in the re-make, "Death Wish". A family man becomes a vigilante killing machine when his family is violently attacked by robbers. Also starring Vincent D'Onofrio, Elisabeth Shue & Camila Morrone. Disney presents the fantasy/sci-fi, "A Wrinkle In Time". After the disappearance of her scientist father, three peculiar beings send Meg, her brother, and her friend to space in order to find him. Starring Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Zach Galifianakis & Chris Pine. Director Wes Anderson gives us the animated, "Isle of Dogs". Set in Japan, Isle of Dogs follows a boy's odyssey in search of his dog. Starring the voices of Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Koyu Rankin, Liev Schreiber, Greta Gerwig, Scarlett Johansson, Jeff Goldblum & Bill Murray. In the animated "Sherlock Gnomes", Garden gnomes, Gnomeo & Juliet, recruit renowned detective Sherlock Gnomes to investigate the mysterious disappearance of other garden ornaments. Starring the voices of Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp, James McAvoy, Maggie Smith, Chiwetel Ejiofor & Michael Caine. "Gringo",a dark comedy mixed with white-knuckle action and dramatic intrigue, explores the battle of survival for businessman Harold Soyinka when he finds himself crossing the line from law-abiding citizen to wanted criminal. Starring David Oyelowo, Joel Edgerton, Charlize Theron, Thandie Newton & Amanda Seyfried. In "Love, Simon", Everyone deserves a great love story. But for Simon it's complicated: no-one knows he's gay and he doesn't know who the anonymous classmate is that he's fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious, scary and life-changing. Starring Nick Robinson, Josh Duhamel, Jennifer Garner & Katherine Langford. In "Midnight Sun", A 17-year-old girl suffers from a condition that prevents her from being able to be out in the sunlight. Starring Bella Thorne, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Rob Riggle & Quinn Shephard. In "The Strangers: Prey at Night", A family staying in a secluded mobile home park for the night are visited by three masked psychopaths, to test their every limit. Starring Christina Hendricks, Bailee Madison, Martin Henderson & Emma Bellomy. In "Unsane", A young woman is involuntarily committed to a mental institution, where she is confronted by her greatest fear. Starring Claire Foy, Joshua Leonard, Jay Pharoah & Juno Temple. In "Acrimony", A faithful wife tired of standing by her devious husband is enraged when it becomes clear she has been betrayed. Starring Taraji P. Henson, Lyriq Bent, Ajiona Alexus & Jazmyn Simon. Finally, in "The Hurricane Heist", Thieves attempt a massive heist against the U.S. Treasury as a Category 5 hurricane approaches one of its Mint facilities. TV shows that were cut way too soon
Mark Vader replied to Another Fan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Pushing Daisies is not a guilty pleasure, it was an excellent show. Damn that writer's strike! I will also add "Invasion" from FOX, starring William Fichtner. A very good drama/sci-fi, that lasted an entire season. I think 22 episodes. "Threshold" was another good drama/sci-fi from CBS, starring Carla Gugino, Brent Spiner & Peter Dinklage. Only lasted half a season. "Journeyman" from NBC starring Kevin McKidd had a neat premise, but very few people were watching. Would have been great to see "Veronica Mars" last longer than 3 seasons. -
Random Bills and what you remember them for

Yes, but I didn't see the ball come out. I saw Jim Kelly make a dive to the ground, and the next thing I see is Lee Woodall running the other way. -

This is a thread all about Yolo giving credit to Michigan
Mark Vader replied to YoloinOhio's topic in College Football
Thank you for this thread, Yolo. To be honest, I had not heard about any of this news. Guess that's what happens when you are a fan of a team in a completely other state. I do find it interesting that Harbaugh has done a splendid job with Michigan's defense and not the offense. Although, I will give him plenty of room on that, since most of the offensive players at WR were freshmen. I wish he would just let Peters and McCaffrey fight it out at QB and let them go from there. Adding Shea Patterson to the mix is cute and all, but just go with who you recruited. -
