Go BOLD - 2020 NFL Bold Predictions
Mark Vader replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
NFL Aaron Rodgers has a great MVP type season and leads Packers to the NFC Championship game. Colts win AFC South easily, as the Titans regress. Falcons finally put it together and win the NFC South. 49'ers & Seahawks take a step back, Cardinals improve, but the Rams come out on top in the NFC West. Broncos have another sub-par season, and Pat Bowlen fires John Elway. Bills Win the AFC East and make it to the AFC Championship game. -
Let me be more specific. I'm not saying that Allen should be looking for the check down all the time, nor am I saying that they should look for that on 3rd & long. Rather that if there's a moment where it's 2nd & 20, and everyone is covered, but Singletary is in the flat with all the defenders downfield, toss it to him and see if he can get you 10-15 yards. Not a bad option. I agree with you on Josh attempting to move the chains. If he sees a moment where he can run and get the first down, do it! I just prefer that he runs as a last resort. The thought of him getting injured on a running play is scary. Yes, the drops by the receivers were a big problem last year. That has to change.
-
This is an important season for Josh Allen, not a "Make or Break" season. He needs to continue to improve and make better adjustments to his game. The combination of Singletary & Moss will hopefully decline the designed running plays for Allen. I believe that Allen should still be used as a part of the running game, but only in sweep plays or have him run as a last resort. Allen has a daredevil mentality, which makes me nervous, because he could get injured from it. It would be great to see him become better at shorter passes and use the check down more as an option. He doesn't have to become Captain Checkdown, but he could be Sergeant Checkdown. Fewer drops by receivers would be great too, and a more killer instinct from the coaches on offense as well. The addition of Stefon Diggs will be of great help, and I think that Zack Moss and Gabriel Davis will have a big impact on the team as well. Finally, I don't know where this narrative comes from that there are "No More Excuses for Josh Allen." Who is making all of these excuses for him, from a nationwide perspective? I sure as Hell don't see it. Some writers out there need better things to do.

My being somewhat excited for football to start up again has now gone straight out the window after seeing today's videos and photos. I'm excited as Hell for the season to start now! GO BILLS!!!

As if it makes a difference. -
Yes, but they should not have been in that position. They became complacent and let time run off the clock, and handed the ball off to Gore for a minimal gain, then called time out. Nearly 30 seconds of time was lost during that sequence. The Texans defense was reeling, and the Bills gave them a break.

Yes, this was painful. However, the big difference in the game to me, and this falls on the coaching staff, was at the end of the first half when the Bills settled for a field goal instead of a touchdown. Remember that last drive in the first half? I believe we started that drive on our own 4 yard line. The offense was moving that ball at a good pace and the Texans defense was having a tough time stopping them. Then when the Bills get a first down with about 1:30 to go in the half, and with 2 timeouts, just outside the Texans 20, the Bills let the clock run. No urgency. I believe they called a running play with Gore gaining maybe 2 yards, letting over 20 seconds run off the clock, then the Bills call time out. Yes, this was the same drive that Duke Williams dropped the touchdown pass in the end zone, but the Bills had an opportunity to do more than try and score on a big play. They kick the field goal and go up 13-0, when they had a real chance of being up 17-0. The Bills had a chance to put the Texans in a big hole at halftime. Not to mention give the Texans defense a real demoralizer by going on a 96 yard touchdown drive before halftime. Whether it was Daboll or McDermott's decision to go with this approach, I see this as a big reason why the Bills lost the game.

Gunner's roster thread.... 2020 style - UPDATED
Mark Vader replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The one thing that a lot of us are missing are the intangibles that players like Lee Smith brings to the team. Sean McDermott brings players in for specific reasons. He loves Lee Smith as a leader, moreso than as a player. If Smith makes the roster, don't be surprised if he becomes a team captain. The same can be said for players like Taiwan Jones, Patrick DiMarco & Tyler Matakevich. These players are primarily used on Special Teams, instead of their normal positions. I personally think that we could find better players than Lee Smith & Taiwan Jones, but I understand why McDermott has them on the roster. -
