Ok. Maybe that's the truth. I just watched this off of DVR. Very impressed with Colt McCoy. Claussen still scares me off. I think he has all of the physical talent needed to play QB and he gets by with just that. I think some of the intangibles including coachability is what I question. Bradford is going to get killed if he takes the type of sacks in the NFL that he did in college. Wow.
-
The problem with Clausen is that many (including me) worry if he doesn't have success right away, that he'll cave or blame others. He has been a success since he was a kid and I think he gets by on his talent. Will he work on improving if his NFL game is subpar? Rumors say he's not a big film-study guy. He reminds me of Rob Johnson with some J.P. Losman added in. Having said that, if we trade DOWN from #9 and he's still there, take him. It's fate--I wouldn't pass twice. It's a dice roll.

Draft prospects that I believe are
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Sergio Kindle has to be in the discussion as well. The Bills are weaker and have more questions at OLB than inside. -
Charles Robinson (Yahoo Sports)
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Kingfish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hadn't seen him play before. I've been watching the numerous youtube videos in the last couple of days and they're just ridiculous. As they said on Sirius NFL Radio, in the hands of the right coach Spiller could be deadly and worth paying as a top 10 pick. He needs eight to ten touches a game at RB, four to six in the slot as a WR, and return kicks or punts. If he doesn't get 15 to 20 touches a game you're paying him too much. -
Pike needs to hit the weight room. I think Colt McCoy needs to get stronger too or they're both toast in the NFL.
-
Buddy says he doesn't like giving up picks. Hopefully he's true to his word, usually the Bills trading-up is a disaster.
-
Might be the best player on the board if all of the above the poster mentioned are gone. Spiller is a big-play threat (52 college TD, 21 for OVER 50 yards!). He can play RB, slot WR, and return kicks and punts. He would be a great VALUE. Having said that the Bills might get the #1 OLB or DE at that pick too. I think if they draft the #4 OT at #9, that does not represent value.
-
This is exactly what the experts have been saying. Kyle might not be ideal, but he'll give it his best. The sure-fire way to hit rock bottom as a franchise is to trade a player like that for peanuts without a replacement.

I like #3. However I don't think Spikes will fall quite that far and Skelton will be drafted high by someone; probably 3rd round or very early 4th.

Bills like Troy QB Levi Brown
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Deep2Moulds46's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He seems to have good size/intangibles. I think the knock on him is that Troy plays in a spread-offense. I think he would be a great prospect to work with for a couple of years before becoming a starter. Mike Kafka of Northwestern is another one http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dspro...0&genpos=qb -
I see it as a three-headed argument. I'm not 100% sold on Claussen or Bulaga---both players might have reached their pinnacle---good but not GREAT. The third part of the argument comes later. If it has to be between the two I take: Bulaga. If he ends up being average that's fine. The Bills cannot afford to have a high pick be a complete bust. The #9 pick MUST CONTRIBUTE right away. The third part of the argument is if Bulaga isn't there at #9. I believe an OLB like Kindle or Graham trumps Claussen. I'm worried that the Bills have too much of an experiment going on at OLB with Maybin, Kelsay, and the will-he-or-won't-he-retire Aaron Schobel. That position could be the Bills disaster this year. Maybe they can get value at the position in the 2nd round, but look at the contributions the REAL linebackers of last years draft made; Orakpo, Cushing, Clay Matthews, etc. C.J. Spiller could also be a factor.

Ahhhhh....the truth comes out! I have a friend who is the opposite; a HUGE OSU fan who wouldn't touch an OSU QB in the NFL with a 50-ft pole! If Troy Smith was available for a 7th or on waivers I might look into it if I were the Bills. Otherwise, he has no track record to be a starter.
-
I can't figure out why. Troy Smith has thrown 89 passes over three seasons--he's an unproven entity. Talented and athletic, but a total question-mark.

Most fans in DC are just pissed that their owner doesn't know how to run a team as far as selecting players. Neither does ours. Stats do lie a lot of the time and I'm not going to make a huge argument for getting Campbell at any cost. However, he had his best numbers by far as a pro in 2009 and the Skins won four games (vs. eight in 2008 and nine in 2007). And he showed big improvement in each of those three seasons. There has to be another factor for the worsening record: lack of running game, different coaches/coordinators, etc. The only thing I can definitively say is that his numbers are consistently better than Losman or Edwards, and are his stats are improving.

I posted this in the Gaither thread. I'm beginning to agree. I'd hate parting with a draft pick, after all it's fun to speculate who might be picked with the pick you give up. However, in the last ten minutes I'm beginning to see the light that could change the direction of the Bills franchise. #1. Trade 2nd round pick for Gaither #2 See if the Redskins would take a 5th for QB Jason Campbell (or a 5th and a player, etc.)

Think about it........... -
Something smells a bit fishy. I've been hearing for a week that the Cowboys should think about drafting an heir-apparent to Flozell at #24 and get him ready to play possibly NEXT year. Now they've already made the move without a replacement. Wonder if they'll call Baltimore about Gaither? Wonder if the Bills should call them and offer the #9 pick for the Cowboys #1 and #2 (probably would take a #3 or #4 too value-wise)? That probably won't happen as the Cowboys only have six picks total. It would be fun to listen though.

Why are the Bills so unlucky?
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to nemhoff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully, that starts this year. There has to be that "I can't believe we have the chance to draft this guy" feeling at every pick. Drafting purely for need gets you into trouble by overdrafting players by position instead of by quality. The first pick HAS to make an impact. Maybe it should be Spiller. Seriously, that sounds nuts but if three OT's, 2 QB's and two or more DT's go before #9 the #1 RB on the Bills board is probably still available and so might the #1 LB. or DE. Hmmm, where's Marshawn???? -
Where Will OT Tony Washington Be Drafted?
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They talked about it on Sirius NFL yesterday and the consensus was: undrafted. -
Interesting Trade Rumor that could affect us
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Personally I think this is a b.s. rumor. If it is true someone has HUGE balls in thinking the player they want will be there this far before the draft. Sounds like a reach to me. If it's true let em' do it. I double dare em'. -
To move from 13 to 9 is worth a mid 3rd round pick.
-
Doesn't sound like a player that Nix would draft and then move to a position he hasn't played. He's a food player though. This is from Iupati himself: "I know left tackle is where the money is, but I've played left guard all my life," Iupati said. "It's nice being considered the top guard available, but being more versatile should help my draft stock." http://www.profootballweekly.com/2010/02/2...uarded-optimism

In this year's draft, QB...
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to FightClub's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's all about value. This teams has needs, but putting a need in front of where a player SHOULD actually be selected, usually doesn't end up well (see Aaron Maybin). The QB's in this draft other than Bradford and Claussen (Tebow is the true wild card---who knows where his draft ceiling and floor really are) are second round picks and beyond. Some will be drafted too high and others will slip lower than many pundits believe. Following the value chart that this team sets forth will lead to a reasonable QB selection should they choose. If it comes to the third round and the Bills have their 4th ranked QB available vs. the 10th ranked OT and 8th ranked DT. Nine times out of ten you take the best ranked. -
Lefevour Stock Falling
DanInSouthBuffalo replied to N.Y. Orangeman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That could work. Chan Gailey had some success in K.C. with Thigpen using a spread-offense that the QB was familiar with. "Gailey was able to take an offense that had been outscored 179-61 in their first seven games and turn them around, scrapping the ineffective and ill-suited ball-control offense for a spread variant to utilize Thigpen's strengths and familiarity to the system." http://bleacherreport.com/articles/329246-...ds-to-the-bills
