That's my "wishful thinking" thought as well, especially in the Bills case. I think there's some truth to it. It gets pretty bad in preseason when most starters don't play the last game, or two, save for maybe a series. That's a two plus week layoff and I think it affects the offense more than defense.

Yep, this is the year we were pegged as NEEDING a receiver with SIZE. Eleven receivers taken in RD#2 (none in RD#1) and the only real home-run picks were the smaller guys; DeSean Jackson, Eddie Royal, and Donnie Avery.

Yeah, I think that's the rap on Urbik--not quick enough on his feet. That lineup you have looks pretty good. Too bad the Bills weren't able to try that out during camp.

I'm not so sure I agree that hitting bottom is any sort of answer. In fact it felt like we hit bottom last year; ditching a starting OT and an offensive coordinator just before the season started, the number of players on IR, converting players from other positions to play LB, etc. That was a joke!

The Steelers were also working out Urbik at center. I have to say that I am a bit surprised though. It sounded like Gailey wanted to work with Brown as a project. However, logic sets in and I can see the reason being that they Bills have three QB's, and Brohm will probably get a lot of work in that "scout" QB position. There's not enough work to go around for four QB's.

According to KFFL they terminated the contracts of DE Marques Douglas & Charles Grant too.

Nice. I liked Urbik coming out of college but he doesn't have much to show for his NFL career so far.

I'd like to see more OL on the squad too but we just don't have them. A couple of these guys who made the 53 are on the bubble for the next few weeks. Nelson coming off suspension will trigger a release at some point, etc.

TE, LB, OL depth

1.Keith Ellison-useless as an LB in the new scheme. But a good special teams player. Gotta keep Moats & Coleman. CUT 2.Chad Simpson-has looked good but with the top three plus Joique Bell. Tough decision. Bell might not make it to the PS. CUT 3.Derek Schouman-a perennial injury waiting to happen. Would love to see more from Foschi and Andrew George. Cut or keep until Nelson is back. 4.James Hardy-the injuries and the dropsies don't help his case. Paraphrasing Gil Brandt: "Better basketball player than football. Runs poor routes". SEE YA!!! CUT 5.John McCargo-has looked better this pre-season. How many more chances does he get? The four DE's will be Stroud, Carrington, Edwards, and Johnson. CUT 6.Reggie Corner-on the bubble? Really? 7.Naaman Roosevelt-has some upside, definite practice squad material, CUT 8.Cary Harris-unless he's a special teams ace, can't keep five safeties. CUT 9.Ryan Fitzpatrick & 10.Brian Brohm-Fitz is more equipped to be a #2, Brohm has more upside, if we had a salary cap Fitz would be gone. FLIP A COIN!

I know they want to "keep" three but with the issues the defense has at LB, lackluster special teams play this pre-season, and the battles at WR, I think they release Fitz and Brown and try to get Brown on the PS. That will give them three but not on the active roster.

It does make me wonder why they haven't done it already then. The Easley injury is a relatively short-term one and he's already on IR.

Ed Wang. I mean, I really hope not. But can you put a guy on the 53 man roster who hasn't played in any games, let alone MOST of training camp?

His stats w/ the Bengals pretty much equal ALL FIVE of the TE's the Bills had last year. Sad. Hopefully we get lucky.
