  1. Which is probably why Wade stood up to Ralph the next season and refused to fire his buddy the ST coach (stupid, of course, but more out of spite than intelligence). Wade had to know their best chance to win was with Flutie.
  2. Isn't it interesting how everyone's perspective is different? I hate Dallas with a white-hot passion - not just because of the Superbowls, but also because I used to work for a guy that always ragged on me & the Bills and talked up his precious Cowboys. I love Green Bay because of their small-town love of the game and (mostly) unconditional support for their team. I like the Colts because of the way Peyton Manning plays the game. I used to like the Steelers, but their self-righteous fans won't shut the **** up anymore. I have respect for the way they play the game, but I want them to lose because it's someone else's turn to win.
  3. Exactly. I hate how people look at numbers to decide how good/bad a QB performed. I remember Johnson simply gutting it out against a smothering defense. Yes, he was sacked a few times - once for a safety - but he didn't completely lose the game. It was the Bills' defense that really kept them in the game. I thought Johnson did a fantastic job getting them down to the go-ahead FG. No, he didn't put up Aaron Rodgers-type numbers, but you don't always need to do that to win a game.
  4. Agreed, but I think he's trying to take the heat off the players by making these outlandish statements. The players need to execute, so when they don't, he tries to deflect the blame away from them. To me, that's a sign of a leader...but he's showing it in an awfully bizarre way. I don't care if you're the Pope. Everyone - and I mean everyone - is subject to criticism.
  5. Seriously? Please...I have every bit of respect for the guy. He sat behind a QB that eventually started thinking too much of himself for 3 years while waiting for his chance and never complained. He now has his opportunity and has shown that he's becoming an elite QB, if he's not already there. Green Bay is my second favorite team, so I was rooting for them, anyway. Offsides is right - Green Bay deserves a title more than Pittsburgh does (yet not as much as Buffalo does).
  6. When I first saw Newton, he reminded me of a much more athletic version of BR - big, tall, strong QB, but he has Michael Vick's legs & speed. Roethlisberger is more athletic than I gave him credit for - he can wiggle out of jams and pressure, but he still doesn't have the speed that Newton has. I'll wait to pass judgment on Newton until he plays in the NFL, but I also wonder about his mental health. He seems to be the guy that has gotten everything he ever wanted (i.e., spoiled), so what will happen when he hits adversity or gets benched for the first time? I don't think his father will be able to bail him out, so I'd like to see how he handles it.
  7. I have respect for what he's done - taking a team to 2 straight AFC championship games is no small feat. The team is built to win - good (maybe great) OL, an excellent defense, and a solid running game. Sanchez isn't making as many mistakes, so you can see he's getting better. Ryan does bring a confident attitude to the players and seems as if he'll take the heat for them, as long as they're doing their job. What I don't like is the brashness. It was refreshing at first, but it's gotten old very quickly. I'm all for a confident attitude, but when you don't win anything and keep opening your mouth and blowing out hot air, it's tiring to listen to. The players are also feeding off of this - they're talking sh*t to the rest of the world about how great they are and they haven't won a thing - not even the division. At least during the Parcells era, they didn't shoot their mouth off. Plus, since I live in a Jets market, it's all I see. I haven't liked the Jets for years and the attention they're getting these days is becoming sickening.
  8. Boy, they made scoring look easy, didn't they?
  9. I never thought that Johnson played badly in that game. He showed guts by hanging in there against a VERY good Titans defense and bringing them down the field towards the go-ahead FG. That said, the decision to start him was one of the most head-scratching decisions I've ever seen. Flutie was the starter and clear #1 throughout the season, so to bench him in the playoff game is beyond ridiculous.
  10. I'll be nitpicky and say that this is the best SI cover of all time. However, if we're just talking about the Bills on the SI cover, I vote for Sam Adams.
  11. I have no issues with players having a Twitter account. I just have issues with the media thinking everything tweeted is supposed to be revealed on Sportscenter.
  12. I don't think this is too far off, but mostly a PR ploy. Do we really think that Belichick wasn't laughing at what Welker said? By sitting Welker at the start, he's telling the world (i.e., everyone inside AND outside of the organization) that he's the boss. Deep down, however, I think he would have loved everything that Welker said.
  13. Did I hear somewhere that the fake punt was the up-back's call and not Belichick's? Some of the players said they trusted him (I believe it was Patrick Chung) to make that call. I can't imagine BB giving full authority to anyone to call a fake punt at midfield when they're behind.
  14. Which is precisely what we'd see here if the Bills were 14-2 and had a future HoF QB. I'm with you & Buftex on this - it's all a matter of perspective. I think the Jets got into his head. The INT he threw in the 1st quarter started him thinking too much and getting away from his game plan. Believe it or not, I think Brady's confidence level got shattered after that. He made some good throws, but I don't remember seeing so many passes off-target as I did in Sunday's game.
  15. Don't forget arrogant. Ryan is letting them talk themselves up, along with him shooting off his own mouth. His brashness was refreshing at first, but now it's old.
  16. I think if the Colts held on last week, the Ravens would've taken the Pats down again. The Patriots couldn't handle the pressure and the coverage the Jets gave them.
  17. So, you'd prefer a seasoned defensive lineman out of the draft? Do you think the Bills would find such a person in free agency or via trade? EVERYONE in this draft is raw when it comes to playing the NFL.
  18. Where's the option for career-ending, debilitating injuries? I'm rooting against the Jets, but not for the Patriots.
  19. I did - missed the end of the Saints-Seahawks and beginning of Jets-Colts, but I watched everything else. It's playoff football. I'm not one of those who doesn't care because my team isn't playing.
  20. I'm with ya, but how will we ever know who's decision it is...unless someone comes out and says so?
  21. Any player that is on the offensive side of the ball. Of the ones on your list, I might be ok with Gabbert, but he's not what they need as the first pick. Defense, defense, and more defense. Defense wins championships.
  22. I don't hate Welker that much...and I hate him much less after this.
  23. You may want to do your homework before ranting... Collins never played for Fox in Carolina. He was drafted by Carolina in 1995, but only played for 3+ years before he was traded to New Orleans, then played for the Giants. Fox was the Giants' DC during the year Collins played for them in the Superbowl, but Fox left the following year to coach Carolina. Collins stayed with the Giants for a few more years before going to Oakland, then to Tennessee. Fox started losing his stars, which hurt his standing. Delhomme fell off a cliff after the playoff game where he threw 5 INTs against Arizona and was never the same. Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen haven't exactly been Joe Montana, either. They lost Mushin Muhammed as a complement to Steve Smith and they never got anyone to step up to replace him. Their RBs (Williams, Stewart) are constantly injured, and losing Peppers killed their defense. The front office didn't exactly help, either - I can't think of a starter for their defense and the only recognizable name on their team (to me) is Steve Smith. If Carolina had won even 2-3 more games this year, Fox should have been considered a genius. I don't necessarily blame Fox for their collapse since the players and front office didn't help, but I think Carolina just needed a change and that's why they let him go. Denver is lucky to get him and I expect them to be contending in a year or so...provided Bowlen & Elway have some patience.
