  1. I'll still be watching because it's football, the Bills are on, and I'd like to see if there is a concerted effort from these guys. I doubt that they've quit on the season - if they did, we would have seen blowouts against Baltimore, KC, & Pittsburgh. I didn't watch yesterday, but I'll venture to guess that they had no answer for the Patriots and everything they attempted to do made it look like they had quit. If Gailey is worth his salt, he'll keep these guys motivated. If nothing else, you see what type of character these players have when there's nothing to play for.
  2. I'm not saying he'll definitely be the pick. But given how poor Fitz was yesterday and the fact that I still don't think he's the franchise QB for the forseeable future, I wouldn't put it past Nix & Gailey to consider a QB. A Mike Leach product...shocking coming from you. Outside of that, I'd be all for Carimi.
  3. ...which is a bit of a risky move. Clausen hasn't looked good at all, but I don't know if that's because he's too green or the OL sucks or if their entire offense is just bad. If they fire John Fox, a new HC will come in and probably start from scratch. This would either mean Clausen has a new beginning or they draft a QB.
  4. If it's true that Luck isn't leaving Stanford, then there probably won't be a QB worth taking in round 1 if Mallett is gone. I'm not necessarily on Mallett's bandwagon, but if he's there, it would be a tough decision. Nevertheless, I agree with bison - build the defense. Get someone who can either pressure the QB or stuff the run. Listening to that disaster yesterday was frustrating.
  5. Even when he got the HD gig in San Fran, the best quality that the analysts/experts could come up with was that he is a "leader of men". In other words, he has minimal coaching experience and they had nothing else to go on other than his name (and that he was the "QB" of the 46 defense in Chicago). Personally, I'd think that a good motivator who has NFL playing experience would have done better than he did. Perhaps he didn't motivate enough. As for the Bills' D, they were clearly outclassed by New England yesterday. The two rough outings this team has had lately (NE & Minn) were due to the lack of run-stopping. With the lack of talent on this defense, they needed to scheme better to minimize the damage from New England's running game...they didn't. It's these two games that will probably doom George Edwards.
  6. This...big time. It's how the Giants beat them in the Superbowl and it's what any team needs to beat them. It's a testament to their OL. I think this is a huge test for this young team to see where they stand. We're looking at two different teams since they met in Week 3, but if the Bills can keep this close (or even pull off the upset), then I think big things are ahead.
  7. To steal a line from someone I knew once... Power rankings are nice, but so are ceramic dalmatians.
  8. My point was that the Bills should start their best players, which includes Fitz. You don't lay down to a team that is jockeying for playoff positioning or trying to make the playoffs. If Fitz gets injured during the game, that's a different discussion.
  9. Not to mention, it's the right thing to do. You want to maintain the integrity of the game by playing your best against the teams fighting for the playoffs or for playoff positioning (see: 2009 Cincinnati Bengals, Week 17). It could be a whole different ball game if the Bills were to beat the Patriots. If the Jets were to also beat Chicago, then New England's Week 17 game means something - the division and possibly #1 seed.
  10. My only thought is that this guy seems to base the rankings on the team's record. Maybe he can put Miami ahead of Buffalo because of record, but the Bills beat both Detroit & Cleveland.
  11. A little?
  12. Not that it compares to what he's going through, but he was my fantasy stud this year. I won several games with him early and advanced to my championship game with his huge first half last week. Too bad from a fantasy perspective, but I'd rather see the guy sit and get himself healthy.
  13. This is classic Belichick, but he doesn't do this to make himself look better (though I'm sure he doesn't mind that part of it). He does this so that he doesn't give the media anything to talk about or any fuel for the other team to be any more motivated.
  14. Please let this charade end...please...
  15. Plus it's ratings. Dallas is a huge draw nationally. So while everyone is gorging on their turkey, they can still watch the Dallas game. This might be why they get the Thanksgiving game. Given their improvement over the course of this year, they could be a target for at least 1 prime time game.
  16. You can make the argument that he was trying to be sure the clock was run out, but I don't think that's what he was doing. Jackson's a big time showboater, no doubt. As much as I'm enjoying the Giants blowing that lead and losing in horrific, gut-wrenching fashion (Buffalo Bills style), it would have been more classic if Jackson had tripped and been touched down at the 1. Imagine the lashing he'd get if that happened and Philly lost in OT.
  17. There's really no reason it shouldn't be. CBS has the doubleheader, Jets are in Pittsburgh at 4:00, New England is playing the Sunday night game, and the Giants aren't playing an AFC team. The only other 1:00 game that MIGHT be worth covering instead would be Jax @ Indy.
  18. Personally, I don't need to see much more. I'd like to see them competitive in all 3 games (i.e., no clunkers like we saw in Minnesota), but I don't see Fitz's performance doing much to change his status. Unless he DOES lay an egg, then I don't see the Bills going for an early-round QB.
  19. And that's the point. If I were a betting man, I'd likely put money on the Bills with that spread. Enough people will think that the Bills (the way they've been playing) can keep this game within a TD or even win. I wonder if Edwards can set up with 7-8 men in the box and force Miami to beat them with Henne throwing the ball. If the Bills run defense was just an iota better than it is now, then something like that should work.
  20. This. I started watching in the early 80s, when the 0-for-70s streak continued into the Hank Bullough, Kay Stephenson, & Vince Ferragamo "era". Plus, my grandfather (a Pompano Beach resident at the time) would always give me a hard time about the Dolphins beating up on the Bills. My hatred for Miami has waned in the past several years, but it's still there. Some of that went to the Jets when I moved to Albany, some more went to the Patriots in recent years. I'll always see this as a big rivalry, primarily because the Bills reversed the 0-for-70s with a few playoff wins in the early-mid 90s. I'll also chuckle every time someone talks about Dan Marino not getting a ring - the Bills had an awful lot to do with that. Well, the 1995 playoff whoopin' they got in Orchard Park was the last straw. I actually thought Shula was fired after that season - he was barely getting his team to the playoffs and losing in the first round.
  21. Squich the Fish?
  22. Yes. By no means is this a gimme. Don't get fooled into thinking that because they beat a woeful offense last week that they can suddenly beat a much better defensive team. This isn't to say that I don't think they can win - I think they can and will probably take the 5.5 points. But it's not a slam dunk.
  23. Wannstedt is one of those "pretty decent" to "ok" head coaches that is better off staying as a coordinator. That's probably what you're seeing that makes you say he's average. His Dallas defenses were pretty solid in their Superbowl years. That said, I agree with wooly. The D has been improving enough where I think we can give Edwards the benefit of the doubt. Let's not act like Daniel Snyder and jump on a "big name" because he's available.
  24. At the minimum, we can officially knock them out of the playoffs - I think (I haven't looked at the numbers, so I don't know if Buffalo winning on Sunday would put the final nail in the Dolphin coffin). Either way, beating Miami would make me happy.
