What's your Favorite / Least Favorite Christmas
bills_fan replied to Reed83HOF's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm a bit of a traditionalist...favs are White Christmas, Holiday Inn and Christmas Story Least fav would be Bad Santa or any of the drivel that has come out of Hollywood in the past 10 years posing as a Christmas movie. -
There's your first problem. You say Amtrak lounge car, well thats basically what the bar car is. And as far as carrying it on the train, noone really seems to care (rider-wise). Considering that the ride is generally 1 hour+, folks like to relax with a beer after a long day. Now, I haven't been taking it that long, but I haven't seen anyone getting boozed up excessively or causing a problem. And yes, people drive away after getting off the train or have someone pick them up, but most folks only have 1 or 2 beers the whole time they are on the train. Its not as if folks are doing keg stands for 4+ hours and then driving around.

The site I linked to seems to be selling it for 1500 bucks, so whatever I get would be much less than that. Hell, I may just hang onto it and crack it when the Bills win the SB.

Eastern European is not just the Polish, however. I'm 100% Serbian.

Check this out. It seems Lamar Hunt has, once again, shown the proper way to deal with your team, even in death. Man I really respect him as an owner. Chiefs Team in Trust

I really don't have a problem with either. If Gandy really is looking good at G then re-sign him. Chemistry goes a long way on the OL. Nice to hear London will be back, we need him. Now, resign Nate, I don't care if its the most expensive CB in the NFL, you'll have the money, now spend it!

Terdell Sands of Oak would fit nicely as a run-stuffer. -
I saw that, it was friggin funny! It was on college campuses nationwide.

I'm not sure, it hasn't happened in the cars I've been on. The point of the quiet car was to provide an alternative to the regular cars due to cell phones. If you wanted to talk on the cell phone, go ahead in the regular cars. In the quiet car, I have always turned mine off. Its just an understanding that people in that car won't talk on the cell phone and bother everyone else. Its the whole point. I support it because it gives folks an alternative, kinda like smoking/non0smoking used to give you an alternative.

The Amtrak quiet car, which I have taken down to DC, is to shut up the morons who spend the entire train ride yapping on their god awful cell phones. It has nothing to do with suppression.

I'm a bit suprised someone has brought this up here. As a rider of this train for the last 4 months (since the move from Brooklyn), this issue affects me personally. A little background first.... Mitch Pally, the MTA Board Member who first proposed this, is trying to get his name in the papers. He is a freshman MTA Board member looking to cause a stir. Sources have indicated to me that Steve Levy (Suffolk County Exec who appointed him) is taking a raft of sh*t from influential folks for appointing Pally. I have yet to discover, tho I will, what Peter Kalikow's angle is on this. Pally raised two distinctly different concerns. One is consumption and the other is sales. Consumption will never be banned. A ban is unenforceable. The conductors are not booze police, they are conductors. They have no idea if you are drinking, say, a rum and coke or a coke. So, there really is no way to enforce a ban on consumption. The bars in and near Penn and GCS already serve alcohol in a styrofoam or plastic cup to go for commuters. That won't change for the bars near the stations. Folks who would normally just have a beer will be drinking hard alcohol now, however. The ban on the sale of alcohol, both on the trains and on the platform raises a very different specter and can actually happen. That is too bad. His arguments are that the State should not be playing bartender. Well, the State either issues licenses or directly sells alcohol in numerous facilities, such as Nassau County Colesium, the new Trump Jones Beach complex etc. Thus, we would be going down a very slippery slope, suggesting that the State should not be serving alcohol. Thus, what to do? I have drafted a letter outlining the above and am circulating a rider petition to be sent to each Board member opposing the idea. So far, I have approx 300 signatures. I figure I'll send it the MTA Board after the holidays, copies of course to the NY Post, Newsday etc. Here is a link to the MTA Board, if anyone knows anyone and can obtain more information about what is actually driving this... http://mta.info/mta/leadership/index.html#board The Kalikow angle is the only reason I am a tad concerned here. Pally spouting off is no big deal, I'm just wondering if there is a bigger agenda here. EDIT: I forgot one angle proffered by LIRR employees. They've been doing this for 46 years, not one incident or accident. No drunken disorderly, brawls or DWI as a result of serving alcohol on the platforms or trains. Not a bad record.

What will we all do if the Bills move to L.A.

I would have my fall Sundays free. Play some golf, watch more hockey & baseball etc. I'd never watch the NFL and certainly not follow the team. They'd be dead to me. -

Problem is, we can't. We are too dependant on foreign oil. If we developed a locally produced, reliable energy source, then we could follow a more isolationist policy, which would be a good thing. Till then, we are forced to be in all of these situations. -
Wrong a$$clown, they never should have let Pat Williams go. Oh but that was your butt buddy so thats OK.

\ Cue NFL films voice... Its 3rd and goal for Miami at the Buffalo 4 yard line, up by 5 with 2:45 left in the game. This may seal it for the Dolphins. Harrington to the line, takes the snap, fakes to the fullback, pitches to Sammy Morris heading left, Morris is looking to throw, he throws for Chamber in the end zone, and the ball is intercepted by Nate Clements. He's at the Buffalo 20, 25, 30, 35 he...could...go...all..the...way!! Clements to the Miami 20, 10, touchdown Buffalo! What were they thinking calling a fake sweep halfback option on 3rd and goal, when simply a FG would have just about iced the game for Miami. Saban looks like he's ready to explode. The Buffalo fans are actually laughing at the Dolphins.

LOL, nice!!

Care to elaborate?

It was. It is now in my fridge. And yes, its plugged in. Since I have no cellar, is that the best place to store this?

Nice. Lets enjoy!

Great question. It does make you think a bit, are the "core" values that this country was founded upon still in existence today. I believe that one of America's core values is rugged individualism, and forgive my use of cliches here. America has always been about a "can do" attitude and on relying on individual achievement. Whether it be Manifest Destiny, putting a man on the moon or exposing communism, America has relied on the individual to get it done. Anything that can be dreamed, can be done. Also, any individual, regardless of birth, could become wealthy and a national leader, through vision and hard work. I think the above still holds true today. Someone mentioned greed. And I'll quote Gordon Geckko here... "The point is, ladies and gentleman, that 'greed' -- for lack of a better word -- is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed -- you mark my words -- will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA." In a sense, he was dead on, and reflects a fundamental American core value to continually improve ourselves and our lives. Each generation takes the torch and tries to better the previous generation's accomplishments, and their respective status in life. Still, the root cause of much of the anti-Americanism today is US foreign policy with regard to oil. The US realized in the early 70s that we needed it and couldn't live without it. Hence, most US foreign policy since then has been about oil. If we can develop a reliable alternative energy source that can be locally produced and mass marketed, you would see a radical shift in US foreign policy and in stemming the anti Americanism that is rampant at this time. This may be a bit rambling, but I hope I've answered a bit of your question.

I checked it out again and I have to say I was wrong on the year. It is 1976, Vintage. Sorry about the confusion. I will take a pic of the label and post it soon (if I can). Edit: I believe it looks like this (will double check when I get home).. http://www.winehouse.com.au/ShowWines.asp?pID=17315

How did Preston hold up in the protection along with Pennington? If Pennington is an answer, does it appear that Preston could be a long time solution at RG?

Tenny, you can say none of your damn business and I won't be offended. And I ask out of curiosity not to pick a fight. But considering your distinguished service record, why would you not be excited about USMC's service?
