Yes he was at the game Thurs night sitting in the Kelly Club. Classy guy, his son was with him and he was having a great time. And yes, he easily had a career better than 90% of all NFL WRs. Go down every roster who carry 6 WRs.....almost 200 a year. Yes, the vast majority of those guys will be out of the league within 2-3 years. You are basically saying Lee was in the top 20 WRs in the league when he played which is the truth. He unfortunately played thru the worst QBs in Bills history with JP, Trent and the tail end of Bledsoe's career. He also got to play with Kelly Holcomb and the Fitz. He put up very good numbers playing with terrible QB play. The guy was a very good WR. He is happy in life, likes Buffalo, has made a home here. Be happy for the guy!! He was a great WR for the Bills.

If we had a top 10 defense, would Fitz be adequate to win?
Ray replied to freester's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are about maybe ten QBs in the league better than Fitz. The problem is they are a lot better. The rest of the league deals with the same. Face it NONE of the QBs drafted the last two years other than Newton, RG3 and Luck have a chance of ever winning a Super Bowl. You really Want Colt McCoy, Blaine Gabbert, Christian Ponder or Ryan Tannenhill? He was terrible last night against the 32nd ranked defense in the NFL and people here are complaining about Fitz for being conservative. Fitz has his flaws but we've had Rob Johnson, Drew Bledsoe and JPLosman all guys with great arms but horrible QBs for the Bills and all guys the Bills used number one picks on to get. What they all have in common is that Fitz as outplayed them all as Bills. But to answer the question of the post, OF COURSE Fitz is good enough to get you to the playoffs if we had a great defense. It's obvious. -
Laugh all you want - Merriman does make a difference
Ray replied to GG's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you we're at the game you also see him as the guy who is the chief motivator of the team, he is in to the game and his teammates and you can tell it. Good for him! It was great to see him have a very good game. Hopefully he continues to play like last night. -
And the Bills fans ran Wade out of town and talk shows criticized him to no end for not wearing a headset........that was huge criticism in those days. Shows you how much Bills fans know

L.A. Stadium A Go Unanimous Approval !!
Ray replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This topic always comes up and everyone seems to glorify and say how we all love to go to games in the wind and snow. Stop it!! Most people don't, they hate it and that's why games do not sell out in December. And yes, that goes back to when we were GREAT!! The weather is horrible and face it, the games are just not as fun and some of the weather over the last few years has been atrocius. It does give credibility, or at least a good argument to develop/build a new stadium or dome the Ralph. Sorry folks, you are in the vast minority if you want December games outside. The games are great when it's 40 and sunny and little wind, but that is VERY rare in Dec and Jan. -
kansas city...unthinkable stat through 8 games...
Ray replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Amazing how everyone wanted Scott Pioli to be the GM.....amazing how once all the "great football minds" are no longer assocaited with Tom Brady they stink. Ask Charlie Weiss, ask Josh McDaniel, Romeo C and Scott Pioli. -
So you use a team to support the notion it was not Fitz's fault. The Saints are worse than the Bills. Did you say the Pat's are horrible when Brady did not get a first down against the Seahawks when he got the ball back with over a minute remaining and only needed a FG to win. It was NOT Fitz's fault that game was lost. He is what he is....a mediocre QB in the NFL. He is NOT Brady or Eli or Peyton and never will be. But look at the rest of the league and you see a lot of mediocre QBs who are not necessarily better than Fitz. What many of them do have are GREAT or even good defenses. I hear people lament the fact Buffalo did not take a QB in the draft. Like who Christian Ponder who threw for a whopping 58 yards IN A WIN!!! He threw for 58 yards and an INT in a win!! Why? Because they have a great defense in Minnesota. This game was on the defense plain and simple

This is not a another "Fitz Sucks" Post
Ray replied to angryfan62's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The defense never left the team in a position to win. Obviously letting a team drive 50 yards and covert 4 th downs and not catching balls that hit you in the chest was directly Fitz's fault. If we had a defense that game we win by three TDs. You put up 34 points at home you win......unless your defense is horrible. This is on the defense NOT Fitz. If the Bills lost 6-3 and the defense let the Titans drive 80 yards for a last second FG would you be blaming the defense for the loss? Don't think so! -
The post is correct. This game is not on Fitz. Tom Brady made almost an identical terrible pass with like 3 minutes in the Pats/Jets game that went thru Cromartie's hands and hit him in the abdomen. Before everyone goes crazy I am not saying Fitz is anywhere near Brady who is arguably the best QB of all time. What I am saying is that QBs if you throw enough passes will throw bad passes. The Bills should have run as even if you don't get the 1st down you force the Titans to use another time out. But this game is on the defense. A terrible offense with a back up QB comes into your stadium and runs for 200 yards and had 400 plus yards of offense and paints 35 points on you! It's on the D. George Wilson catches a ball that hits him right in the numbers the Bills win. 34 points is enough to win, plain and simple.

Most posters on this board will never be happy. He had a 2 sack game and with multiple pressures, was double teamed and chipped constantly and had many times he had the QB in the grasp and rushed. Not good enough for the very intelligent posters on this board. Give the guy props, he had a great game. Hopefully he can continue to do it. When Julius Peppers signed with Chicago it took him 8 games to get a couple of sacks. It took Mario one game last Sunday......let's relax. Peppers has done pretty darn well for Chicago. It takes some time to acclimate to a new place, new teammates and new system. Give it a chance people

Your post is 100% correct. He had the best play/run in the San Fran game. He had a nice run in the Arizona game. The other teams have to respect his speed and capability to throw out of the wildcat. They have to spend time preparing for him and the Bills' wildcat. NOBODY ever proclaimed him to be the FT QB. He is a talented player and a great teammate. He creates a lot of mismatch problems for opposing defenses and personnel groups. He has more yards than Tebow out of the wildcat this year with less runs. Chill out people. We run it a few times a game if that and it has created good yards the last few weeks.

The Bills do make the Buffalo area big time. Go around the country to other cities and the Bills are what they ask about. It just is.....you can debate whether that is good or not but it is the truth. People in Boston and New York have no idea about the Darwin Martin House or the Albright Knox but they do know the Bills. It provides a major value in terms of quality of life to much more than just a few. That is why the Bills have the highest percentage of people in ANY NFL city watching a game. It is part of the culture and history of this city and even casual sports fans become involved. If it mattered to only a small percentage then why did the Mario Williams chase lead every single news station in town? It was national news and it was about Buffalo! people cared and loved it not just for the Bills but for Buffalo itself. We were/are relevant again and the city and team are talked about on a national level. That makes Buffalo big time. I do not hear on the news about Utica, Scranton, Toledo, Harrisburg, Akron, etc.....you DO hear about Buffalo! PTR is correct that the Bills add an element of "big time" to our area. As someone who recruits professionals regularly to the area I can attest to that 100%. People like that element even if they are casual fans.

Patriots Enternaining Trade Offers.....
Ray replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pure passer, can make every throw etc.....so could JP Losman, Rob Johnson and Drew Bledsoe. Unfortunately it is one of at least a dozen variables and not the most important. There are so many factors for a QB and decision making and intelligence tend to be more important in today's NFL. The criticism on Brady (even after winning his first two SBs) was his arm strength was only average. If you can get Mallett for a 5th or 6th sure, get him but not much more than that. -
John Murphy to host nightly show on WGR?
Ray replied to BRAWNDO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you 100%. Their Bills coverage this offseason has been tremendous. The Mario Williams drama was spectacular radoi and they were all great. I think, for obvious reasons WGR is such a great fit for the Bills. That is really interesting about Murph. Thanks for the link -
Renewed and apparently many many people are buying....having about 50k season ticket holders really helps sell out ALL games. Last year they had to sell about 34k tickets each individual game to just sell out. This is exciting and great for the team/fans/city

The Mario Williams -Toronto connection
Ray replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You realizr Ralph does not make 80M on that deal? They paid $78M for the 8 game sand the Bills make about almost $4M more per game so over 5 years about 32M.....so basically on average Ralph made about 6M more a year than he would have if the game was played at the Ralph. Not nearly as much as the 78M sounds. -
Mario Williams: Officially a Buffalo Bill
Ray replied to buffalo_bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow man!! You were way ahead of the curve. Buffalo Chophouse??? I feel like steak Make sure he drinks plenty of wine and agrees to the deal -
Great line up today and Joe B and Tim were great. Best Bills talk in awhile. I agree that since Joe B has taken over for Paul the talk about the Bills is a lpt better and more interesting. Paul's first love is hockey and they'd be talking hockey in September and it was awful. Joe B loves football and the Bills and is knowledgeable and researches things quite well. I like Jeremy and Howard in the morning but agree Schopp and Bulldog have been hard to listen to during most football seasons and so negative and the Bills are moving and terrible blah blah blah although I felt this past season was better. I was skeptical about them taking over the Bills games and being the Bills' station although it certainly makes 100% sense but I have been very pleasantly surprised and it is a much more natural fit than 97 rock. Kudos to Joe and Tim today on a great show!!

Ah yes, remember the commentators the day of the draft crushing the Bills saying they would regret for years not taking Leinhart. What a huuuuuge bust. He was always more interested in partying and being a Hollywood guy.

Update on the Stadium Lease negotiations
Ray replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You could and that is a part of it but how come the Bills have sold out more games in December in the past ten years than they did during the SB years when they were awesome? See Mark Gaughns story In the Buffalo News how Dec and Jan games have ALWAYs been a tough sell even when they were great I am a season ticket holder too and I can't give the games away to two club seats in December with bad weather. Face it, people for the most part hate bad weather games. They are miserable. Everyone likes to romanticize the snow games but it is a fallacy. People want to be comfortable and PTR is right. It would help sell out those games. Obviously a good team is needed but the Bills need something to help better insulate fans and players down the road. -
Great article by Tim Graham in B News
Ray replied to bananathumb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Again, per my other post..."studies" these are not and many of the articles cited are from professors own opinions. Go onto CNBC today and see two economics professors saying two completely different things about the same topic. I do agree with the premise that owners overstate the economic impact when building stadiums. This is what two of the articles talk about but this is NOT what we are talking with the Bills leaving. Also comparing the Montreal Expos moving to DC is 100% different when comparing promises of a new stadium in DC to the Bills leaving Buffalo. A stadium in our nation's capitol that has hundreds of things to do is a lot different than the Bills in Buffalo. I would think everyone would agree going to Washington there are at least 50 other things I would do before going to a Washington DC baseball game. And the other studies talk about the New York Stadiums, again a much different market than Buffalo. Any person living here can tell you there is absolutely NO other event that comes close to bringing tens of thousands of people to one area of Buffalo and spend their money here. The average length of time people come and stay to a Bills game is longer than the average person comes and stays in Niagara Falls NY....not the Canadian side but the US side. The Bills are unique to Buffalo so you cannot compare their impact to a frnachise moving to major metropolitan market. Compare the Bills leaving to The Packers or Steelers leaving. Alabama or Michigan or Ohio State shutting down their college football programs. See how that would go over. I'm sure Ann Arbor would have 100k people just spend the same amount of money in Ann Arbor those weekends and the hotels and restaurants would be full anyways. -
Great article by Tim Graham in B News
Ray replied to bananathumb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're completely right that it is not hard to do and ask any hotel owner how they do the weekend of a Bills game vs a random weekend...not even close. How come the ONLY time in Buffalo you have to adjust your driving for traffic is during a Bills game day? It doesn't happen when the Albright has a new exhibit....I'm sorry it just does not. Tens of thousands from Rochester and Ontario come to Buffalo. The idea that Hamburd and OP would not suffer as the realtor suggests seems pretty riiculous to me. So you have now 60 players and their families leaving, doznes or administrative staff, dozens of coaches and their families. Ahhh, yes there are huge amounts of millionaires coming to live in OP and Hamburg if the Bills leave as it is such a growing area. I do agree that sports over value their worth and benefit, but the idea that it has a net zero effect on an area like Buffalo is preposterous. Quality of life and entertainemnt and things to do are a major reason to live places and Buffalo would lose a huge amount of draw for minimal people it already does if the Bills left. But in the end they will NOT leave. -
Agreed! 17k for a 710k home is highway robbery and also a big reason home values here and everything else is so suppressed. An equivalent home (710k) in Massachusetts would be about 6k in taxes and even lower in NC. About 8-10k in Florida. So yes, what extra do you get in Buffalo for the at least 7k more you pay? Nothing and that is the point. Not really the forum for this but I just agree with Fezmid and the rest of the people who move here and are absolutely shocked by the property taxes. But hey, props to Losman for keeping his home here so long. He still likes Buffalo. Too bad it never worked out for him.

Great topic agreed. It's how the game is played and eventually the truth does come out. For me I believe the story but have to ask "what is far apart?" That could be number of years in the contract, total money, guaranteed money, or money per year. If the Bills offered 5 years at 6.5M per year and Johnson wants 7 years at 7M per year maybe some would say they are over 15M apart on the deal but not really. So to me the big question is what's far apart??? Are the Bills offering 3M per year and he wants 7M per year? The Bills need to get with the times....Routt was just cut by the Raiders (I know he's a CB) but just signed a deal for basically 7M per year. Costs for players are getting higher folks at One Bills Drive
