  1. What I'm saying is don't anoint him yet. Or the BUF pass defense. There's plenty of history of a rookie having a puffed-up season, and when the opposition gets the book on him, he's a sophomore fart. And so far, nobody has chimed in regarding his performance as a run stopper during his rookie year, unless I missed it. My question...did he have a lucky rookie season, was in the right place at the right time when the ball was up there re his fat # of picks? I already said I didn't see him play.
  2. I didn't assume anything. I linked the results of the '09 season per the NFL's stat site. What other homework do you suggest I do?
  3. IIRC, Rivers had the sidearm knock against him, also.
  4. BUF was #30 overall against the rush: http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tab...;seasonType=REG Given that, consider that the opposition didn't pass much against them...why bother? So you look like you have a killer pass rush or have an All-World backfield... The CIN press releases used to yo-yo...one season, in the run-up hype to sell tix, they would say that they were way up there in pass defense (they got run over). Next season, they touted the tough run D (they got torched by passers and receivers).
  5. I saw 1 Bills games last season...TB, and he wasn't playing. How did Byrd do against the run? BUF suffered a league leading (losing?) ave. of 5.6 rush yds on 1st down. Off the snap, or down field? Is he a sure tackler? Did RBs and TEs get the better of him? BUF suffered a league leading (losing?) ave. of 5.6 rush yds on 1st down.
  6. Hmmm...we had a serviceable Travis Henry...draft McGahee. Had a serviceable McGahee...draft Lynch (WMG totes up 29 tds in 3 years with BAL). Have a serviceable Lynch and Jackson...draft Spiller. Sounds about right. And a shiny new 1st round RB is usually a sure-fire way to spiff up the gate...
  7. If he recovers, they have the chance to have Wood as a fixture at Center. Why they chose to lift their leg on that is still a curiosity to me.

  9. Possibly someone who appreciated his 12 rush touchdowns, his two receiving touchdowns, and 5.0 ave. over 109 carries last season? Fred had 2 rush tds Lynch, 2. One each for TO and Fitz...
  10. My thought is that I appreciate the enthusiasm of a young poster reporting a visit.
  11. Barrett Robbins, anyone?
  12. Alternatively, if you are seasoning in a younger qb, have a rb with good hands. That's usually a savvy vet, but not necessarily...see rookie Rice with BAL, and Leonard with CIN. Speaking of Brian Leonard, the Ram's '07 2nd round pick: His timely runs and catches kept drives alive late in their early games, and helped CIN to a W-L record against div. clubs so they squeaked into the playoffs. I peg him with 3 wins. Rice was lights out for BAL...hands, runs - as Flacco experienced the sophomore analysis and treatment. Rice was their crutch...my NFL Rookie of the Year. BTW - comment on BAL's defense - restock, and stop the chatter and the chronic, idiotic, late, personal fouls. A guard pick by the 3rd, as well.
  13. There has been lots of commentary re Pascal's wager - through many years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal%27s_Wager I've read your subsequent postings. I hope as you age, gain wisdom, you will see that you cannot compel faith. If the youth of every generation had all the answers to all things (as they chronically like to tell us), it would be a be an ideal world - by now. Faith is a subject, and I do not think at your young age, you are capable of adding. Throughout history, great minds - beyond the capability of anyone who posts here - have dedicated their lives thinking about such. If you want something to pursue, note that all things animate have a mind measurable by its wants, and that only man seems to have in full power the ability to contemplate the future. Some other things, too. In time. For now, by all means, stare at the stars and wonder. I encourage that. Leave snip comments to others, to the older folks with the scars of life...we earned it. So shall you. Don't be strident.
  14. My impression is that in years past, BUF hasn't been very active in that regard. Perhaps someone will show up with numbers, Bills vs. other clubs..but that's my impression. Bringing players in before the roster is set with signed players makes sense. Some $ has to be spent , but IMO, that's just one of the normal costs of NFL business.
  15. He's certainly worth a look. BUF needs LB help - and it's not unusual to sign a FA and find out in camp that it isn't going to work out. I'm pretty sure that signing bonus $ depends on making the team. So you spend some (relatively small) cash up front. I'm a fan of bringing players in for a look-see. Example: CIN needs wr help - Coles is gone (he commented on Palmer's high tosses after being cut - he was right. BTW, he was a terrific blocker for them. They might miss that, which is why I felt that they would have considered Josh Reed), they inked Matt Jones, Antonio Bryant, and a minor player named Chris Davis: http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Beng...54-11fb2456c9cd The guess is that Bryant sticks...Jones, this Davis? Who knows? I'm a fan of bringing players in for a look-see. Bunches of 'em.
  16. The day is late, Levi, and I have to get up and start preparing my wife's food when she returns to me from her work. I'll revisit your comments at a later time. So, time for you to ponder over assumptions you assigned to me. We shall speak again.
  17. Tour the Historical Society, the Science Museum, and the Albright-Knox art gallery. Visit the Robt. Moses power vista, and Old Ft. Niagara Take a trip through City Hall - what an art deco architectural marvel! Take a ride over the Skyway. A stroll through the Forest Lawn Cemetery grounds. A chocolate soda at Parkside Candies. Buy some sponge candy. And concord grapes if they are in season. If you are driving, have/buy a cooler and get quantities of Salens' skin dogs, Webers' mustard, and loganberry concentrate to take back. Forget bringing back wings - any fool can buy and cook them well locally and hot sauces are available everywhere. Same with Beef on Weck.
  18. For the skeptics on the fence... "Belief is a wise wager. Granted that faith cannot be proved, what harm will come to you if you gamble on its truth and it proves false? If you gain, you gain all; if you lose, you lose nothing. Wager, then, without hesitation, that He exists." Blaise Pascal
  19. I'm sure the feeling is mutual...
  20. You are not supposed to speak politics here, you know. You might get a nasty PM. Depending on your view. Delete your post and re-post in the PPP section, please. That's what I have been told.
  21. The Caymans...
  22. I remember the Blue laws. And that day of rest. Sunday was for family. Sunday dinner wasn't a 5 PM thing...it was served around 2 to 3 PM. There was still a "rurality" out there, if that's any sort of word. The first meal of the day was early - very early. 6 AM for me. It's been over 20 years since I visited and did work in Germany...it was W. Germany, then. On Sunday, pastry shops were open early, then as evening approached, the taverns would come alive. Folks would stroll around between the two times, live music was common (not loud banger stuff), enjoy the weather if it was agreeable, and chat about this or that if they met. After 6 PM during the week, most all of the shops would close down. You could fire a machine gun down Mainstrasse, and nobody would be around to notice! Our church had pot-luck dinners every Sunday. They had a "rotating" list - one week, your family would offer up a main dish, the next, vegetable dish, next, a desert or a breadstuff, and so on. What a feast it was! We attended about once a month - we didn't have the stores to contribute weekly, and back then, taking unearned food from others was an insult to one's family and one's pride in same. That's long gone by the wayside, starting in circa 1965... I'll bet few here remember rutabaga sandwiches (or something named "forcemeat" made from saved offal). Peanut butter was a premium product, and bread was dear. Two thin slices of raw rutabaga with pb in between...yum! Root veggies were staples- turnips, beets, salsify, etc. Now they fetch a premium price.. Gawd, I'm ancient. The population has more than doubled in my lifetime...
