  1. Thanks - I appreciate an eyewitness opinion.
  2. Long ago, a very good, very wise golfer told me to always remember..."Your 5 iron is your best friend."
  3. I'd like them to make a move in the 2nd. But you are right - they need to take a shot at a QB. If they tap one in the 1st, that's alright with me...no b*alls, no glory. And most say how deep this years' draft is - even if they make a bust pick, they might end up ok...they are picking in the top 10, round after round.
  4. Jon Kitna, then? The QB coach steps in. Having to pay for a player, take up a valuable roster spot, as a mentor is - poor business management, as your historical references mention.
  5. I've always wondered about this "vet mentor thing"...if it means anything, why do teams hire QB coaches? Seems redundant...
  6. How sad that would be...4 rookies having to start...
  7. I think the Bills have to roll the dice, take a chance in rnd 2 for a QB. I don't see much that would impel them to pick a QB in rnd 1.
  8. Then, a question would be...how is Kolb going to show, in light of their other changes? I'm not sure who "most" are, wrt Kolb...12 game appearances , 2 starts, in his 3 years. Now we will see...
  9. I agree - they acted, with respect to what's going down in the NFL in the coming years.
  10. They traded Sheldon Brown and linebacker Chris Gocong to CLE, too. Dumped Westbrook IIRC. Saved paying McNabb a 6.2M roster bonus. Looks like they are getting their financial ducks in order, for the uncertainty ahead...which lines up with the predictions going back months, that older vets would be facing the axe. I won't criticize PHIs' decisions - as others mention, they have bee a competitive franchise for a good number of years.
  11. .."the old soldier leaned back against the rock and drew in the fragrant smoke. It was then that his jangled nerves knew the full virtue of tobacco, the gentle anodyne which stays the failing strength and soothes the worrying brain. He watched the dim blue reek swirling up from him, and he felt the pleasant, aromatic bite upon his palate, while a restful languor crept over his harassed and weary body." - The Tragedy of the Korosko by A. Conan Doyle, published in The Strand Magazine, May 1897.

  14. If Haden somehow falls a fair amount, CIN will grab him. They would love to be able to move CB Leon Hall to FS. I would be surprised if they made a large move up, though, to obtain him. Speaking of CIN - they may have an eye on M. Pouncey, or one of the rated DEs. I shake my head at the years and years of the pundits predicting a TE pick - their idiot OC never shows that he involves them as anything but a blocker first. I'm still surprised they didn't make a play for Robt. Royal. CIN's sitting pretty in what's being billed as a deep draft - 3rd rnd, 4th round comp pick after losing qb Fitz, wr TJ Housh, T/G Stacey Andrews. WR Coles was cut and signed before the league year started, so he didn't count in the calculations.
  15. Hard to say so - but the BUF organization has simply been one of the poorest evaluators of OL talent in recent years. They constantly stick themselves into a corner. And come up short when injuries come up during a season. They must have some sort of dark cloud overhead...even dumb luck might do better. Bills' war room... : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IErXg5kBXXg
  16. Reed won the Freddy Biletnikoff award. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Biletnikoff IIRC, one of Fred's children was murdered...
  17. Don't forget...he was tossed onto IR with a broken leg last season.
  18. Did it come from come from one of these? http://www.gogomag.com/talkingheads/cnn_cnn_f_2.php Or maybe from this dear one? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/
  19. Sometimes - like it or not - you have to roll the dice. It didn't work out several years ago with JP, we all know.
  20. Cig tax is the 3rd highest source of revenue for the State of Ohio, They always yammer on about how much it costs them re Medicare. But never, ever open their greedy maws and dare make these killer cigs illegal...
  21. When a Democrat proposes such...well - they mean well, after all. When a Republican does - it is smeared as "mean-spirited". Gasoline has risen a dollar since Obama took office. Now this exploration, these fiat words. We often heard - for 8 years - about George W's "oil buddies". And he never pulled off off-shore drilling. Yet not a peep about Obama's "oil buddies"... It's inexorable...
