  1. I suppose the people who work for his Daddy's zinc mining operations, and those that own a billion+ dollars of oil stocks like Al does might... Oh, the Inconvenience of it all!
  2. Yes, it's not. I expected the noting of such, and posted it to illustrate that all branches get in on the fun. Personally, any show business - which is what sports are - should never have had any especial protection. However, show business is one of a few that can wipe off their feet in the face of the paying customer, confident that they will come back for more. See also the medical community. They hawk, and depend on emotion. So they are not going to be spanked by any legislature, save the occasional getting of face time or jumping in front of a popular parade of the moment. Legislators and sports business owners are birds of a feather.
  3. You won't find it for several reasons. The electric fleet put out there by GM and Honda on a lease-basis only in 1998 (forget that idiotic propaganda "documentary"..."Who Killed The Electric Car") proved that there is no viable market for such, other than at a 30K "boutique buyer" price, and only for those that want to wait 12 hours for a recharge. Recently, there is a "quick charge" crowd squawking. It can be done - problem is, you would need 100kW service, a problem because most houses' wiring struggle to pull in 10kW. And if folks on their local grid were in numbers to try to pull 10kW, your transformers will trip out. If there were a big fleet of electric jobs - CO2 emissions soar because of the demand on power plants. Unlike Europe, our nanny state and population bite their collective fingernails and gnaw at their knees at the mention of nuclear powerplants.
  4. I'm sorry - only certain Inconvenient Truths are allowed.
  5. As in the Clinton Administration once trying to federally charge a punk that held up a 7-11 in Tennessee because his getaway car was a GM car manufactured in Oklahoma City? Where is the line drawn? In my opinion, the Legislative and Judicial branches have been lifting their legs on the Constitution for the better part of a century. I'm not inclined to offer them more food...
  6. It will go away. The NFL has on its side: - several cities that dole out taxpayer's money giving a free place of business for a private business based on votes cleverly garnered by NFL p.r. campaigns targeted to folks already on the tax-free dole (no skin off their hide). And some of these cities or counties have bond debentures outstanding. So no rocking of the boat by them. - there is a bunch of media outlets with broadcast contracts, clout, advertising coming into the till, and campaign cash to fork over. They won't report things against their pecuniary interests. - the historically cheesy and waffling Senator from Pennsylvania aside, no other members of our native aristocracy are picking up the cause. - fans' clamoring for tickets continues.
  7. Forget the fact that Europe is over 50% diesel, with excellent emission control and particulate traps for years. Forget that diesels go across the models, from small jobs, mid-level sedans, and big Mercedes', BMWs', Lexus', and so forth. Several so-called "Blue" States...NY CA, VT, MA etc. ban new diesel sales outright - their left politicians more concerned about being in good graces with their coveted handful of greenie voters keeping them in office than worrying about the general public's' expenses. BTW - those are old TDIs you have. Time to buy the kit to clean off the delicate Mass Air Sensor wire, and the throttle body. Follow the instructions to the letter - don't ever touch the wire.
  8. You forgot the "quoted with permission of the author" sentence.
  9. They are called automobiles. Your ATV if licensable for the road, would also require crash side bars, dual-circuit brakes, air bags, Motor Vehicle Safety Standard weldment and bolt tests, emissions certification, tire pressure monitors, crash testing, safety glass windshield, turn signals, MVSS front and rear lighting, steering and brake system certification, emissions warranty...for a start to a long, long list.
  10. I'm glad to see that today's American youth are the greatest, smartest, generation ever...
  11. Well, I seldom bother to watch a NE or MIA game, but in the few time I've seen him play, he goes over the middle, snares a 1st down pass, secures the ball, then dives for the ground. I can't say I've seen him "tough it out" for extra yards after a reception.
  12. I give your pending marriage 3 years...tops. And if IIRC, you haven't reported back on the diamond purchase.
  13. Because they are by design, low-speed vehicles ill equipped for avoidance of any moving object, fat, low-pressure flexible tires, a steering mechanism with any deflection at speed keeping up with traffic would flip the ATV, to mention a few. I suppose one could figure a way to install drive wheels and front wheels on a snowmobile, too...
  14. It could be like Volvo vehicles, and their owners. Volvo manufactures a decent construction re safety - and has advertised that for many a year. However, folks drawn to Volvos tend to not tailgate, not excessively speed, use their turn signals, maintain their vehicle and so forth. So it adds to the aura. MoPed riders may or not fit that profile, but scooter riders tend to. They tend to look both ways, know the advantages and limitations of their vehicle, and act accordingly. There has been a rise in motorcycle crashes. Several reasons...older riders, high power motors, more cars on the road and so forth. Not discussed is the riding stance. The "standard" riding position is a thing of the past, replaced by the laid-back "cruiser" stance or the "cafe racer" bent-over stance. Neither of which adds to situation awareness, which is vital when piloting a motorcycle. Most of today's motorcycles are sold under the implied promise of being a penile extension, Harley or Ninja alike.
  15. Happy Birthday(s)!
  16. What a terrible tragedy. May God bless...
  17. Everyday people. You could be right, you could be wrong. And so on and so on. Old people listen to young people. We are not cool, but we don't abandon...always ask, seek.
  18. That's a new one to me, R. Thanks - I'll look it up.
  19. Can't say...but the captions were of proper grammatical construction, and properly spelled. What's going on plenz? You are firing off shots out of character, and your spelling skill has fallen utterly into the toilet for the past few days. Give up the quit, and by yerself a pack of cigs!
  20. What do they have now? Six QBs?
  21. I disagree with your characterization of Corey Dillon as a punk. He was certainly a jerk. A garden-variety jerk. He was a fierce competitor, who chirped about a podunk, moribund organization, with an owner/GM that tried every trick in the book to blame and then can his coaching hires at no cost to him. Dillon champed at the bit to get the pads back on whenever he was injured. He was terrific on field - he would hit tacklers face-on and pop them into the cheap seats, knew how to follow down-field blocking, was an accomplished pass blocker, and always came back into a play to be in position to snare a pass for a QB under heat. He also had remarkable open-field speed. He didn't pile up all his yards because he was some whiny punk. Dillon was all business for 60 minutes, every game.
