If you do this for any team you’ll see a lot of the same. You’d be shocked at how hard it is to find an open guy on a broken play in the churn of the pocket with guys barreling towards you. So hard in fact, that they pay people upwards of $40+ million a year for people who are even decently competent at it.

It’s really not fair to compare AJ to a lot of other receivers. That man is a freak of nature like DK Metcalf. AJ was doing that ***** against teams on the Titans too. Guy is one of few. Why they traded him instead of paying him I will never know.

I mean, from a psychology perspective, the entire team literally watched an unconscious teammate in a life threatening situation be carted off the field without any clear indication that he was alive/okay the last time they had faced that team. Granted a few weeks passed, and the game against the same team was played in a different venue, but the emotional and psychological triggers are still there. Mentally, that wound was still extremely fresh. You can make every argument you want but the mind can be a funny place sometimes. Being on that field, against that team, given what had happened less than a month ago could have just been too much for some of them to handle in that moment. That mood/vibe spreads like a virus as well, as people look towards certain teammates for leadership and when they see that those guys aren't in it, suddenly nobody is in it.

I mean yeah he's in the twilight of his career, but you can afford to wait for the right situation if you've got a ring and already have a few contract extensions and are basically set for life if you weren't dumb with your money. Guy is chasing another ring and almost had one last year with the Eagles doing basically the same thing he's doing right now.

When you're in the twilight of your career, got a bag or two and a ring you earn the right to be picky.

I like the move, it plugs a massive hole in the roster (pun intended). Just hope he's got enough left in the tank to be a difference maker for the rest of the season.

You installed those plays during practice and you gotta keep the other team honest.

Have we ever made a big move before the trade deadline?

I don't see us giving up the picks the Bears would want for this. Johnson is also going to want an extension since he's on the last year of his deal. We don't have the cap space and owe Tre a bunch of money. We also owe a bunch of other players money and just punted some cap to next year to make some space this year for contingencies/emergencies. I just don't see it happening. -
I'd say playing the Bengals this week has the same level of anxiety as a matchup with the Chiefs, or the Eagles, would have. It's good competition, and the result is really anybody's game. The Bengals are definitely not looking at this as a 'game they should win' and neither are we. They've put together some good games and some absolute clunkers, so have the Bills.

I seem to recall a previous iteration of the Seahawks riding an amazing defense, a strong running game and a smart QB who took what was there and the occasional deep shot to a Super Bowl win. Not saying this D is the next legion of boom but there's definitely historical precedent.
-
Defensive talent notwithstanding, which I think is at a deficit versus the Bengals offense, I have to believe McD is pretty salty about how the Bengals moved the ball against the Bills last year and has this game circled as one he'd really like to win. There's also been shaky games by the Bengals this year so there's tape. I think McD and his staff are smart enough to think of something, they've been able to make a lot of QBs look very mortal/average. Biggest concern is being able to execute.

This probably means Damien Harris is gonna be out longer than we think

My belief is that McD has had this game circled on his calendar since the playoff game last year and is cooking something up to slow down that offense. I don't doubt there's a small smidge of pride associated with this game for the Bills. My hope/concern is: can they execute?

I know this is satire but as a Bills fan you gotta know division games are ***** weird sometimes. Also as a Bills fan I’ma stay quiet cuz we lost 9-6 to the Urban Meyer led Jags a few years back.

Week 8 - Around the NFL (i.e. NOT a Bills thread please)

Bengals frankly make me nervous. They look solid all around and are gonna give us all we can handle in their own house. -

Purdy just pulled an Allen 😂 -

There’s enough tape on Purdy now to know what he can/can’t do and tendencies. He’s gotta show that his mental game has another gear now. -

Cousins has a torn achilles and JJ is out for a while. Wonder if they’ll pack it in and be sellers on the trade market leading up to Wednesday. -
Is there a way they can both lose?

I mean last year they lost to Zach Wilson and beat Patrick Mahomes, the year before that they lost to Mac Jones but beat Patrick Mahomes. Division games have an element of wtf to them some years, see the Dolphins & Jets last year. We'll see what happens, they're not dead yet but man the last couple of games have looked like a struggle.
-
I get that he’s the HC and DC, but man is it hard to deal with the fact that 30-40% of your starting defensive lineup is either out due to injury or done for the year. If he can right that ship he’s a goddamn miracle worker.

Defensive depth is being tested and oh boy is it being exposed.

I think Von can speak to a similar situation, where the Denver Broncos had an aging Peyton Manning, Brock Osweiler had to come in to relieve him from bad play/injury and they had a couple of shaky moments in the middle of the season. That team rallied, the defense really clamped down and they ended up winning the Super Bowl as an underdog. Sure Von's play isn't all that on the field right now as he gets himself right, but that experience speaks volumes to a team that could have folded in the face of an offense that looked DOA after it became obvious that Peyton could no longer push the ball down the field.

We'll be down to Philips, Settle, Ford and Vickers on the interior. Williams is Bernard are good run defenders and our edges can set the edge decently well, at least Lawson and Epenesa do. Taron is also good in run situations. Their passing game is limited, if we can shut down the run this game is over.
