EJ Gaines and Charles Clay Looking Good to Play Week 10
Virgil replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even with those guys out there last night, we lose. Offensive line, defensive pass rush is the issue that isnt getting addressed -
They need to let the Lorax put his hand down as a 5th rusher. Trying to do it with only 4 and basic stunts isnt getting it done. And at this point, opposing offenses know we are only coming with 4

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times.....BBFS. It's not pessimism or hating on the team, it's 17 years and the reality of history. Tonight exposed a lot of our holes and opportunities that we've been able to hide or suppress. And yes, we just got BLOWN OUT by the Jets on primetime TV. This is why we, and will continue, to not have the respect of anyone. 1 - McDermott - This loss starts with our coach. This team did not show up tonight in a variety of ways. I don't care if it's a short week or on the road. This is a divisional game that we need to be relevant in a division dominated by the Pats. The Jets are supposed to be a weaker team and equally on short rest. We had terrible starting drives in both halves, poor tackling, penalties, and stupid turnovers. Easily our worst game of the season at a time where many of us were looking for this team to prove this team was different. 2 - BBFS - I've had people ask what this is. This game was it. Battered Buffalo Fan Syndrome. It's the ongoing mental anguish of waiting for the other shoe to drop when something positive happens to the Bills. I'ts snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. It's the 2nd and 2 direct snap to McCoy that almost leads to a turnover. It's starting 5-2 on three occasions over the past 17 years and finishing 7-9 two times. As of right now, anything is possible again. Special thanks for the Bills losing before the bye week and 10 day stretch, to really rub in the pain. 3 - Penalties - One of the biggest differences this season has been the discipline shown by the team. Tonight, we saw that completely unravel. The refs even gave us a gift offensive PI call to negate a Jets TD. Shaq had an idiotic late hit. Jerry pulled a Jerry with his unsportsmanlike conduct. Nice facemask penalty where the defender just reached out with his arms towards the McCown's head expecting...god knows what. I'd complain about hte phantom offsides for the onside kick, but it doesn't matter. Penalties were just the perfect icing on the cake 4 - Offensive Line - Normally, the lyrics go here, but there's just too many things that need to be called out. Our offensive line was an absolute joke. I can't really even evaluate the running or passing game much because of it. The right side of the line was as bad as I've seen it and got absolutely blown up. How Groy is not at RG and Dawkins isn't getting snaps at RT is beyond me. After a week where they dominated the Raiders defensive line, the overall offense stood no chance because of these guys. 7 sacks...... 5 - Pass Rush - I'm getting pretty sick of our 4 man pass rush, especially after seeing what the Jets did to us with rushing 5. McCown had all day to throw while Tyrod got terrorized. It's infuriating how obvious it is to see the difference an extra rusher makes. Some may want to call out the loss of Dareus, but he was playing less than 40% of the snaps. We are going to get destroyed by Brees, Brady x2, and Alex Smith. Btw, that would be 8 losses after tonight to those guys. The Dolphins and Chargers, on the West Coast btw, could be the difference in our season. 6 - Turnovers - We knew we couldn't rely on being +3 in the turnover column every week, but who thought it would look like this? Two fumbles by the offense that were completely self inflicted, both killing scoring drives. A dropped INT that couldn't have been any easier to bring in. We weren't flying to the ball like normal, delivering the bigs hits, and overall seemed out of position a lot. 7 - Tackling - Tackling tonight was the worst I've seen since our last game against the Pats. I don't know if it's because we kept trying to knock the ball out or what, but there were broken tackles all not. As the game went on, the misses got worse. Nevermind the blown contain on McCown to start the game, but the big rushing plays to drive the dagger into our hearts were just pathetic. Nothing about this performance looked anything like our season to date. 8 - Tolbert - After two weeks of crediting the use of Tolbert and praising his effectiveness, we went right back to the maddening play call we saw in the first 5 games. Tolbert running the ball on 1st and 2nd down, without McCoy on the field. swing passes, the full rushing compliment for a guy who has no business being a runningback. Why we keep trying shove a square into a round hole is beyond me. This might be the most infuriating team. 9 - Road Games - We are now 1-3 on road games. While the first two losses were close, we looked flat in all three losses and worse each time. This is becoming an area of concern and makes me extremely anxious about the Chargers and Dolphins games, who are against two beatable teams. McDermott needs to figure this out and quickly. 10 - Zay Jones - As easy as it would be to go negative for all ten points, I have to give credit to Zay for his coming out game. He looked crisp in his routes, didn't drop a pass, and only his injury kept him from having a big game. Very proud of this kid and happy to see the potential from the guy we took in the 2nd round. I hope the knee issue doesn't linger and his confidence continues to grow. What a rollercoaster 5 days it's been. A blowout win against the Raiders where our offense and defense looked dominant, an amazing trade for Benjamin, and now a blowout loss to the Jets. This game was lost on effort alone. We didn't have it and I have to question why. The easiest answer? It's because we are the Bills. This is what the Bills do and none of us should be surprised. Watching all the threads about playoffs pop up reminded me of the previous 5-2 starts and I just had a feeling all day about this game. We aren't a playoff team until there's an "x" next to our name in the standings. We've proven nothing so far. No matter how it feels, we are 5-3 again with some scary opportunities. I'm starting to get worried about our inability to generate any pass rush, road game intensity, and how easily our offense can go flat. We have some good teams coming up that will exploit these issues and things could get ugly quick. I'm not saying we will finish 7-9 again, but 8-8 is a very real possibility. Go Bills

Gameday Thread Bills @ Jets 2nd Half

Dont buy it. They are on a short week also. Half our games are on the road and this is a weaker team. Playoff teams cant lose this game. -

And this is why you dont get excited at 5-2 -
Looks like he nailed it

The BBFS is real

Just broke down in tears laughing after reading some of those comments. My favorite: Oh. My. God. We just got bent over.. the Bills went in dry. WTF are they thinking?
-
A 3rd? Not sure how I feel about that. Basically gave up Sammy for Kelvin, acquired a 2nd for a 3rd. Is that a good deal?
-
If its a second, I wont be happy. Other than that.....Wow

Rumor is the Skins are looking for a WR at the deadline and Pryor is buried on the depth chart. Hes on a one year deal and half his salary is already paid. Id give a 7th in 2019 for him. He's only one year removed from a great season and has the size and speed to be a deep threat. If he sucks, no harm.

Patriots trade Jimmy Garoppolo to SF
Virgil replied to HumbleAndHungry's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That would be huge. I feel like McCarron and Landry Jones are similar to Garoppolo as they play behind a franchise QB who the team isnt sure about mileage left. McCarron, Jones, and Garoppolo all would do well on the open market. -

This could actually seriously hose Garoppolo if you think about it. If he stayed with the Pats, he was going to get a big contract without proving anything. Now, he has to go out and prove hes worth it on a winless team. Im not saying hes going to tank or hes not good, because I have no idea. I do think that this is more of an overall risk than a positive for him. -

I dont know how much of an advantage having an inside track gives you. When the season ends, if he wants to get paid, I dont think he decides to stay in San Fran for less money just because they traded for him. That didnt do anything for him besides make him feel wanted in the moment and make him move. Now, if all offers are equal, then he might decide to just stay. But with the amount of suitors and offers hes going to receive, I dont think already being in San Fran is going to make a big enough difference to stay. Also, if this college QB class keeps declining in play, and Cousins leaves the market quick, the bidding war for Garoppolo could get nuts and its anyones game. Case and point, look at what happened with Osweiler. -

If Im Garoppolo, why am I signing with them? He will make more money with teams bidding against each other and then pick his destination. I really dont see the advantage of the 49ers giving up a second for him. -

Virgil replied to HumbleAndHungry's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont understand this at all. He was going to be a free agent at the end of the year, so just sign him then? To give up a second, not knowing if you can re-sign him is strange. This does make Cousins good offseason football. Maybe they were afraid of that transition tag. -
So, 4-12 predictors...how's that working out?
Virgil replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
More often than not, the people you feel the need to call out, end up correct. 5-2 has ended with 7-9 multiple times, so maybe pump the breaks and talk to someone about why this kind of thread makes you feel good about yourself. You quickly forget everyone here has the same goal. -

We are in solid playoff position right now...

How many threads were like this when we were 5-2 the last few times. Calm it down until later in the season. Itll only hurt more. BBFS infected -
Playoffs? Playoffs?? The Playoff Chances Thread

Shut this thread down immediately. Ban his IP and never speak of this again. You know better!!! -
I watched this game with little expectations. After beating the Chiefs last week and us letting Jameis throw all over us, it just felt like a typical letdown game. After the first drive, I just decided to sit back and enjoy the game for what it was. With that....What a great, convincing win! I'm not going to waste time looking up stats, trends or anything else, I'm just going to talk about this one like the casual observer who enjoyed watching a fun game. 1 - Tyrod - I start with Tyrod because I took him to task last week. This may have been his best game this season as I really can't point out many mistakes he made. All QB's miss throws, so I'm not going to nitpick. What made the game so impressive was how many times he extended plays by STAYING IN THE POCKET. He didn't rush today at all, made defenders miss him in the backfield, and kept his eyes downfield. The Raiders kept safeties deep most of the game, and took away the deep ball, which he was happy to take the underneath routes. I was shocked to see that he threw for under 200 yards. This was a complete game by TT and I think we can end the discussion about him throwing over the middle of the field. Almost all of his 1st quarter completions came that way. Just a great game this week and showed the difference between efficient with low stats and Carr's high stats and a loss 2 - Mack - I'm absolutely shocked that I never really heard his name. I think there was one holding penalty against him, but that's it. We absolutely shut him down and Mills gets a TON of credit. Mack is a gamechanger and was ineffective all around. Great job by Frazier, MIlls, and the whole line. 3 - Milano - Two weeks in a row the rookie makes a difference. He contributed to 10 points and really blew the game open with his play. I know McDermott said that Humber would be the starter when he gets back, but I don't know anymore. I'm impressed by his instincts, positioning, and the kid is just FAST. Loving this kid more and more this week. 4 - So we found our own direction Made our way to everyone And now we look back on every misstep And wonder how we got it done I'm bringin it home 5 - Frazier's Bend but Don't Break - Outside of the two touchdown drives, this defense did a fantastic job today. They gave up the yards, but not the points. I am surprised by the end result since we had ABSOLUTELY NO PASS RUSH, but still got it done. To give Carr that much time, for the Raiders to have those weapons, and to only give up 14 points...hats off. I'm still worried about the Brady's who find their way into the endzone, but this defense is finding new ways to win every week. 6 - Linebackers - These guys are getting their own shout out, even after mentioning Milano. These guys are playing so fast, getting their hands on balls, and just always seem to be in the right place. I've taken issue with our soft zone in the middle, but today was different. These guys clogged passing lanes, tipped passes, and just controlled the middle of the field. I'm really impressed with this unit as they are slowly becoming one of the strongest parts of the D. 7 - Refs - I don't even want to give them attention, but what was that? That offensive PI on Matthews was a joke in the first quarter and there were just way too many iffy calls for my liking. With that, I'm giving props to the offense for overcoming a lot of 2nd and 20's and not letting the Ref's beat them. We typically bend in those situations and lose the game, but not this team. Are we starting to Billieve yet? 8 - DB's - How impressive is it that we overall shut down Crabtree and Cooper, especially with Gaines out? They got some catches and big plays, but most of the yardage came from TE's and dump offs. I'm surprised at the amount of man coverage we are playing, but we got it done. And is Hyde not one of the best FA pickups we've had in a while? Another guy who just keeps being in the right place at the right time. Ignore the stats guys, this unit got it done. 9 - McDermott - I was surprised by the decision to go for it on 4th and goal. Maybe it's the BBFS in me, but I want the definite 16 point lead, but I'm happy to be wrong. His one challenge didn't make much sense to me, but other than that, he seemed to push all the right buttons. No one had us at 5-2 and these guys seem bought in. We just traded away our highest paid player, continued the old regime turnover, and these guys keep showing up for him. This would be a lot worse if we were losing. Either way, it's hard to not buy into the process right now. However, at 5-2, we've been here before...... 10 - Billiever? - Here we are again, 5-2. I think this is the 4th time in our playoff drought? (I'm not looking it up, remember?) We go into NY on Thursday with a chance to go 6-2 for the first time since 93? Again, probably the BBFS talking, but I'm nervous. I'm so used to getting my hopes up about this team only to get heartbroken. The Jets aren't the pushovers they were in week 1. We have a lot of good things going on right now, but I wonder when the 300+ passing yards per game given up, we stop getting 3+ turnovers, and our resilience against penalties go away. I hate that my brain goes there, but it's what they've done to me. I think 6-2 makes me Billieve; makes me think it's different. I want to love again McDermott, help me. *Bonus - Tolbert - I give him a lot of crap, but he was utilized perfectly today. He got some crucial 3rd down conversions in a pound the rock fashion. Two weeks in a row this guy has looked good in our offense. Credit where credit is due Great win guys! I'm loving it so far and look forward to seeing where these wagons go. Go Bills!

I dont fully believe that. I think he is being evaluated and part of the process like a lot of the old regime guys. I could be wrong. -
Hypothetical Trade - Buffalo and Seattle
Virgil replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think everyone is focus on on the talent moreso than the regime and scheme. Weve held Glenn out for a few games and plays, which indicates hes not part of the plan. So, if we can dump his salary, like Dareus, and get a player that can help this year, then thats good. However, I do agree that Glenn is worth more to another team. -

Hypothetical Trade - Buffalo and Seattle
Virgil replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its all about injury to me. If they think Dawkins can do the job and Glenns foot issues are only going to keep happening or get worse, then get away from it if you can. If hes healthy and good to go, then yes, its a dumb trade
