We need somewhere to direct the five stages of grief!

Seems clear it was both: 1) The play design didn’t have a new wrinkle that defeated the Bengals’ anticipation of the Bills’ tendencies. (The way the short passes to Singletary did in last year’s “perfect” Pats game.) 2) Josh didn’t take enough of what was there, and was not mentally ahead of the Bengals defense. (Diggs’ frustration was not unfounded.) This was a winnable game, not a mismatch.

A lot of posters say McD is the new Schottenheimer, i.e. can't win in the playoffs. McD: 4-5 record in 9 playoff games, i.e. .444 win percentage Schottenheimer: 5-13, .278 Andy Reid: 21-16, .567 The next couple of seasons will show which way McD is headed.

Josh Allen is still 2 years younger then Kelly was when he first made the playoffs (1988). There is a long time to come, with Josh Allen, and I will bet we win a Super Bowl or more.

We need to start Elam Shakir and maybe even Benford (at safety) next year. Buffalo tends to get a little stuck on mid level players like Dane Jackson as starters. They value consistency over potential, maybe? But potential stars improve by playing, not by learning from the bench or being asked to drop weight or whatever.
