If they can only get to it from ground level, you can wrap some sheet metal around the trunk and grease it up. Make sure the top of the sheet metal is at least 5' off the ground. Trimming it back from the garage might be tricky, those little schnitzels will jump 10' laterally from one tree to another, even a bit more if they are jumping a little downwards. I know they make tree nets you can wrap the upper part of the tree in, but that might be enough of a pain your arse to make the squeeze more than the juice is worth.

They might not be the kind of high-end athletes we all want, but they won't be complete stiffs either. I honestly wouldn't be opposed to (or surprised by) them giving Claypool one last shot. They seemed to really like what he was doing in camp last year and he should be fully recovered from the toe injury. I'm also not yet fully convinced that Cooper is completely out of the picture. It is a very, very tricky line to navigate, keeping those kinds of people away while at the same time making sure we never cross that line into smothering alternative opinions. I tend to err on the side of more open discussion because I think it creates a better forum than erring on the side of squelching unconventional takes. fwiw, two of those people you're talking about just got tossed out on their ear for a month or more and are now on double secret probation forever.
