I guess all depends whether Daboll wants to vouch for Smith Jr, he is young and from a big school. There are no Jimmy Graham''s/Gronkowski's in this draft in terms of height/weight (6 foot 7, 265lbs) - only day 3 guys like Trevon Wesco and Zach Gentry. Staying at 40, there will be player who unexpectedly slipped out of round 1 available to us. There are 5 to 8 players who I thought were round 1 locks e.g. Ford, DK etc.
-
I would be so happy with Irv Smith Jr in round 2 at 40. Otherwise Cody Ford or Zach Allen. Should Jachai Polite be available in round 3 at 74 I'd risk that pick on him, bad combine but a very good past season, a fumble causing defensive end. If there is any trading activity, I like Amani Hooker, safety from Iowa at the end of round 3.

At pick 40, the last 4 teams have drafted a WR in that slot. Will Buffalo do the same?! Personally I'd strongly consider Cody Ford and Greedy Williams at 40 instead.

RD 1, Pick 9: DT Ed Oliver, University of Houston
quincy replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looks like I have 19 pages to read through, my observations: Picking at 9, Buffalo got amazing value. Looking at the 14 big boards on FanSpeak that have been updated this week, Ed Oliver ranks between number 3 and number 7 on every board. 10 out of the 14 boards have him at the best player available to pick at 9. One board had Jeffrey Simmons higher, one had both Jeffrey Simmons and Brian Burns higher, one had Jawaan Taylor and the other Dwayne Haskins. His happy reaction to be picked by Buffalo is priceless. Great to see. All the best to him and the team in 2019. -
Your final prediction: Who will the Bills draft in round 1
quincy replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They only player I would consider trading up for is Josh Allen. Make a trade with Oakland trade: Buffalo receives 4, 106, 140 Oakland receives 9, 40, 74 Substitute 74 for 112 and it is a parity trade under the Jimmy Johnson value chart. If Buffalo trade down, McDermott will draft Wilkins and Beane will draft Metcalf, both in round 1. -
Who’s the ONE guy that you want in this draft?
quincy replied to McBean's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Left field choice is Garrett Bradbury. Senior, Captain, great 3 cone and 40 yard dash at the combine. Can play RG next to Mitch Morse as a rookie. I think he will be a consummate professional, wonder whether the front office are still evaluating round 1 Center's after drafting Morse. -
Look Out for Parris Campbell, WR, Ohio State in Rd 2

Prefer Marquise Brown or Andy Isabella as pure speed guys. Best round 2 receivers I think are Deebo Samuel and AJ Brown. Latter could go round 1. AJ Brown and Isabella have great numbers from last season. -
I previously wanted Brian Burns, seems not to fit the defensive scheme Buffalo runs. There seems to be a consensus, realistic 3 of J. Williams, TJ Hockenson, Ed Oliver My fear is that they are drafted back to back by the Giants, Jaguars and Lions and we are kind of stuck at 9. Choices are one of DK, Dillard, Fant, J. Taylor, Wilkins, Bush, Ferrell or Cody Ford. I would draft Ford and line up the O-Line as Dawkins - Nsekhe - Morse - Spain - Ford This would be the biggest line we could get, improve the running game and help Josh Allen. Front office will choose one of Dillard or Wilkins if the original 3 are already drafted.
-
Amazing if the above could happen. Work the phones Mr Beane. I don't think Dawkins is a franchise LT unless he gets motivated and puts in the work this year. Hope Morse inspires him and eases some pressure off him.
-
Could Dawkins be used to obtain Gerald McCoy?
-
McDermott has to go 9-7 this year to have a 50/50 win/loss record. I really hope this can be achieved/exceeded. Would McDermott make it to year 4 if he has a losing record after year 3? If McDermott coaches the Bills to a 12 win season, he could be a 1 time, 1 organization head coach for a much different reason! ?
-
Beane would be smart to distance himself a bit more from McDermott imo. McDermott has all the makings of appearing to be a 1 time, 1 organization head coach. Beane appears and acts like a natural, McDermott for me is an uninspiring grinder. I hope Daboll can get the best out of Josh Allen. The power initially lied with McDermott, in time I hope that Pegula can see it to give Beane the upper hand.

I have a feeling Jonah Williams will go top 10, potentially even before the Bills pick at 9. I think he is play for the Giants at 6. I think the Jaguars are in play for Hockenson at 7. Foles needs to have a legitimate TE and Hockenson is that guy. I can see the Lions taking Ed Oliver at 8, if he slips that far. My top 8 is Murray - Q. Williams - Bosa - Allen - White - J. Williams - Hockenson - Oliver Montez Sweat appears to be falling and it appears doubtful that teams want to trade up before our slot to get Lock or Haskins.

I wanted the Bills to draft Watson. I thought it was what we needed, a player who I thought would bring a national exposure to the Bills and solve the quarterback problem. We have the earlier post saying after Trubisky and Mahomes were gone, the Texans owner instructed the GM to get Watson. Pegula could have given similar instructions. Why did he cede so much power to a rookie head coach? In time I think McDermott will face further heat regarding the 2017 draft, as time elapses it will get worse especially if Zay and Dawkins continue to be average at best.
-
From the 2017 draft, 4 out of the 6 chosen are on the roster. (No Peterman or Vallejo) Tre White and Matt Milano, I am sure everyone is happy with. Question marks remain over Dawkins and Zay. Dawkins was drafted as a Guard if I recall correctly. Is he truly our franchise LT? If Beane decides to draft back to back OL in the 2019 draft with the 1st 2 picks (e.g. J. Williams and Risner), will he even start? Beasley appears to be an immediate upgrade over Zay in the slot, some people believe he won't make the final 53 man squad. We could start 2019 with only 3 of the 6 picks from the 2017 draft, irrespective of who was calling the shots. What I would like is the the buck to stop with Beane. Friendship or not the GM should be higher up the pecking order than the Head Coach.

Can the Bills wait past the 3rd Rd for a RB ?
quincy replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Gore is best used from the 1 yard line to the 25 yard line (when our offence is backed up) and in the red zone. McCoy as the primary back and somebody should be chosen on day 3 to be the high usage backup. As a bigger back I think Ozigbo from Nebraska is of interest. Happy with either of Henderson/Montgomery. Think that a tackle breaking, chain moving running back is what is needed. -

I have a feeling that Beane will go DT DE OT TE RB with the first five picks Oliver or Wilkins in the first (Easter prayers for Q. Williams to somehow become a Buffalo Bill ) Polite or Winovich or J. Ferguson or Z. Allen is the second Someone like Deiter or D. Edwards or T. Howard or in the third I hope they draft a kicker in round 6 or 7 - C. Tracy or M. Gay.
-
Would drafting Ed Oliver in round 1, Dexter Lawrence in round 2 be met will approval by fans?! Lawrence has the weight, strength and wingspan that seems unmatched in this draft. Any mid-late round run stuffers to keep an eye on?
-
Only reason to be slightly upset is that the Bills are the only team without a guaranteed prime-time game when the schedule is released. Maybe the week 16 game is rescheduled and that would be good news for Buffalo fans to play against New England on a national stage. It could be worse, apparently Tampa Bay go without a home game for 49 days, (their sole home game during this period is in London). Fingers crossed for Josh Allen and Tremaine Edwards to become true stars. Mitch Morse and Tre White to go All-Pro. If somehow Beane eschews the lines and is able to draft DK and TJ (say the Bengals trade up and give us a 2nd rounder) the intrigue around Buffalo will surely grow!

Which prospects from the 2019 draft will end up as being very marketable? Thus bringing pressure on the schedulers to offer the Bills at least 1 prime-time game per year? As an starting point I think it those players could be Marquise Brown, Hockenson, Quinnen Williams, Kyler Murray and DK Metcalf. Maybe Darrell Henderson, Mecole Hardeman, Andy Isabella and Justice Hill. In an alternate universe if the Bills had landed Antonio Brown I am sure there would be at least 2 prime-time games.

I have wanted him to be the Bills first round choice for 3 weeks or so now. He has had three solid years at Florida State and will only turn 21 next Tuesday (23 April). If Buffalo can manoeuvre a small trade down and net a further 2nd round pick, my ideal scenario would be Burns, Metcalf/Hockenson/Jacobs (have to get an offensive playmaker and sacrifice the extra 2nd round pick received) and then Irv Smith Jr (he could be available in the mid-lower second round and justify another small trade down). Fourth pick will then be a DT or assuming Jachai Polite is still sliding I'd choose him, he is a disruptor causing fumbles off the edge. I would be ok with Renell Wren or Khalen Saunders as a mid round DT choice. Burns and Polite would leave the Bills in a good position if Lawson, Hughes or Murphy are not retained/extended. I have confidence that Jordan Phillips will be motivated and will be a decent placeholder 3 technique.

Glad that Seattle managed to secure Wilson. Pete Carroll is already the oldest coach in the league, I wonder whether he has another 5 years in him. Wilson is still young enough to head to New York after 5 years. Will Ciara still be in the music/entertainment business then?! Eli is happy with this news.
