Almost forgot that Spain was reliable when pulling as well. What’s discouraging is we had three interior linemen with similar strengths in a scheme. It points me to a lack of identity in the running game which leads to a lack of clarity with regards to the talent and skill sets needed to improve in consistency and/ quality. It’s also a reason why these guys who all have a decent level of talent are playing subpar football as a group.

I’m not sure if this falls on Daboll, OG Bobby Johnson, or some combination of them…. But…. Pulling and blocking in space were strengths of Ford coming out of college and Morse coming over from KC. Not utilizing the strengths of two starting linemen for years in a row is a problem.

Nope, but I’d consider giving them up for Javonte Williams and Creed Humphrey.

You’re left with trying backyard football or navy football to find a numeric advantage. That might be why we’ve been seeing those QB sweeps. If Moss is out this week I wouldn’t be surprised to see an option game with Brieda a few times.

He was such a liability yesterday that the D gave up an unbelievably horrid 9 points. Shame on him and them for giving up three field goals.

It’s difficult to make adjustments when the line is horrendous and your only starting caliber TE is injured. They can’t run against a light box, and they can’t protect against a four man rush. They’ve tried wr screens, but Sanders whiffs on his blocks. They’ve tried short routes, but teams are sitting on those routes. There isn’t much to adjust to until they can get some competency and consistency up front.

One second…. When the Oline actually gave Allen that extra time he often managed to find Sanders and Diggs. They had no real answers for that pass rush though, and there seem to be issues with talent, communication, consistency, coaching, and playcalling.

Well, he would have been our best offensive lineman yesterday.

Oh, the coaching is definitely not a benefit. Thing is, I’m not sure that Beane is assembling an Oline that has similar scheme ability; ie Morse’s strengths don’t jive with Ford, etc. There’s no actual Oline identity, especially in the run game which is a huge problem.

I’m wondering how much of that inconsistency in due to Covid and how much is poor communication. Line calls generally come from the inside out, and with shoddy guard play tackles often find themselves on an island or picking up a rusher to their inside.

Keep in mind that Dawkins extension is also $7-8 million a year less than what the best LTs are getting. Dawkins hasn’t been as good this year, but if it’s Covid related he should rebound next season. The bigger issue is that the lack of talent at guard which Beane hasn’t done anything to correct. Of course there are likely some other underlying issues as well that involve Oline coaching, run play design, etc.

I think the guard market is going to get bumped in the next two years. First by Scherff who’s a FA this year. Then Nelson and Elgton Jenkins who are both in line for new contracts. Jenkins is a but if an oddity though as he can also play tackle and center at a probowl level. The trend to mobile QBs will likely play a role in this as well as they’re more capable of big plays avoiding edge pressure than pressure up the middle.
