What is a successful season for the 2020 Bills?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to BITE ME's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For me it is a division win and a playoff win. Anything less is a Failure major disappointment. Of course a playoff loss to a superior team would be easier to take than another choke job like Houston last year. Anything more is a welcome surprise would not be shocking and again if not a Super Bowl win would depend on how the loss occurred. A shootout loss to KC I coudl live with. A 3 turnover game by Allen or a mind numbing mistake by McD would be hard to stomach. -
I appreciate the OP question. I don't think the goal should be a playoff win. As many have said there are only 2-3 true SuperBowl favorites but many other teams in the hunt. I also beleive they should be in a win now mode. Do I think they have a realistic shot at winning SuperBowls? No. But a first round playoff loss would be a great disappointment similar to losing to Cleveland in the first round of the playoffs in 1989 or even to the Bengals the year before as both of those games the Bills were good enough to win.

Week 13: Bills at 49ers on MNF (in Arizona)
Ethan in Cleveland replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
49ers, Denver, Pats, lose to Pittsburgh and rest week 17 against Miami. Miami has at least two more losses before the would come to Buffalo. That said, one has to wonder if they would be better off needing to win against Miami so they stay hungry Hard to know the impact of playing a meaningless week 17 game before the playoffs the following week. I've always thought the rest was more important than any supposed "let down " from not playing the starters one week. Yup its random. Interceptions are far less random and a better metric to follow. -

He also made some very good run blocks the last several weeks. He is the weakest link on the line. I would have no issue with Bates or Boetgetrer getting some snaps. Would be nice to get up several scores and start rotating some other guys up front. -

Agreed. If you could choose, would much rather have wins over Pittsburgh and of course Miami. But beating a wounded 49ers should be easier than beating either Pittsburgh or Miami. My guess is Miami will lose to Chiefs, Pats, and Raiders down the stretch making the final game of the year meaningless. Bills will be 3rd or 4th division winner winning the AFC east by 2 games and the Bills will rest everyone in week 17. Thanks. Well that saves me a couple grand in tickets and travel costs -

Any word on tickets? Will they allow fans? -
Milano and AJ together?
Ethan in Cleveland replied to BeastMode54's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You are exactly right. when Milano was healthy, Klein rarely saw the field. Now that he has played well and if they are facing a run heavy team, McD and Frazier may play some more base 4-3 defense. Even if they do, I can't imagine it would be more than 5-8 more plays a game in a 4-3. What we might see is Klein out there against more two TE sets, run down and distance situations, and Milano in on 3rd and long and four and five wide sets. Will be interesting to see. Then again if Milano really tore his pectoral muscle he won't be 100% until after the season. -
It was a win with some good and some bad. It was a win against a flawed west coast team playing on the east coast. Bills D appeared to play better but Herbert also was off target early and often. Other than one 30 yard run, they seemed to defend the run well. D had some nice stops after the turnovers. People seem to think Edmunds played better. I didn't see it though. Very few impact plays. Missed knocking the ball down on the TD pass. I didn't see him make any big mistakes in the run game. The long run given up was Klein's hole and terrible run support by White. Bills rushed the passer reasonably well. They did not pass block well at all. It was hard to tell on TV but I suspect they were defending the deep ball and doubling Diggs. Allen and Daboll adjusted reasonably well. Sitting Murphy was a fine decision as Epenesa played ok and should benefit from the increased snaps. Sitting Kroft for Gilliam still made no sense. Not sure why Josh Norman didn't get more snaps. I like Levi but I would have guessed they would have rotated Norman in there for a few drives. Also unsure why he was not on the filed for the hail mary. Tauron Johnson looks like the smallest DB on the team and Norman is the tallest I think. They had both Klein and Edmuinds on th efield for the 4th and forever. Makes no sense.

Can't figure out Devin Singletary.

His contract this upcoming offseason. They need to bring him back or find a replacement. -
Reserve Kicker on PS

Not a bad idea and probably of more value than an extra WR. One would think Hauschka would be the first guy they call as he is still a free agent -
Impact of Bad Coaching on Good Talent
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Captain Caveman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Harbaugh had very good success at San Fran and his run at Michigan is about to end. The Chargers lack discipline and focus. He would bring that. I doubt Daboll will get a HC spot but its possible. Many of the recent hires are retread white guys or from college. Harbaugh fits both demographics. Lynn already had COVID over the summer. While repeat infection is possible it is extremely rare( 4 cases reported worldwide I believe and only 1 in the US). Good observation. Eagles line is decimated with injuries though too. -
They struggled to beat a 3-7 badly coached west coast team playing an early game on the east coast with a rookie QB that played like a rookie. But it was a win and in some areas the defense looked better. Honestly I'm more encouraged on how Josh led them to a late lead at Arizona than I was with what I saw yesterday.

Bills vs 49ers No Punt game 1992 (Full)
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It wasn’t all offense. Both denses got torched but instead of forcing punts they got turnovers. -

There is another thread on here stating how important the home field advantage is. Look I'm not disagreeing with you. Lynn seems terrible. The Chargers were my darkhorse team to make a WC run. They have crapped the bed. Lynn will go. They appear to have at least a very good rookie QB, they play in LA, and they have talent on the team. They should be the #1 landing spot for a HC job. My hunch and way too soon to make a guess - is it will be Jim Harbaugh. -

Edmunds lined up at OLB several times today. -
Ed Oliver...coming into his own.
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes that is why White tackle was ok. Oliver blasted Herbert in a high low combo hit with White. It was a violent collision. Like it or not they are going to throw the flag more often than not when that happens. If the same hit happens to Allen this board would be screaming for roughing. -

First year he had to deal with the move to LA. Then they were playing in a soccer stadium with more opponents fans than their own. Rivers was a train wreck last year. I'm not trying to say Lynn is even a good coach but he has had some obstacles to deal with. Gase has been terrible everywhere he has gone and he had some weapons to work with in NY last year. -

Around the League Week 12

Brady and Mahomes just had a brutal sequence of bad throws. Happens to even the best. Tyreek Hill has a chance to break single game yardage record -

Bills RBs are about tenth on the list of issues they need to address. They are average cheap guys neither of which has trade value nor is so bad they would considercutting them. Nothing wrong with that. This off-season they will need to address: 1. RT 2. RG 3. DE 4. OLB 5.DT 6. TE 7. Nickel slot DB 8.Back up OLB 9. Back up Safety 10. RB rotation And that leaves off MLB only because I think no matter how Edmunds plays McD and Beane are going to stick with him -
Officiating across the league is god awful
Ethan in Cleveland replied to Brennan Huff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Honestly I don't think they care. Unless it is a major screw up at a crucial moment in a critical game, like Rams Saints NFC Championship, I dont think they kind a little controversy. It keeps fans talking and engaged. Sure they want to get it correct most of the time, but a call here or there they really aren't going to do much about it.
