JA's style will always be a riskier style that leads to some turnovers. It's just being exacerbated by the lack of successful drives. In the past it was ok, because we would either score or turn it over. Now there's a lot more punts mixed into that equation. Another reason why we're seeing more, is because Allen feels forced to make everything happen on his own. Like Orlovsky pointed out in his breakdown. The Broncos we're in zone, and we ran a play that was designed to beat man coverage. Bad play call on Dorsey. I honestly think he was clueless, and didn't know how to attack defenses, but I'm also surprised that Josh didn't audible out of that. As much as I love Allen, I can't absolve him either. More the reason, that you need a better OC. A better OC says kid......as soon as you see there running zone, we need to get out of that look......and audible to xyz, etc.

I'm not someone in the know, just a regular longtime fan like most, but this all makes sense to me. Going into the year, I was not on the fire McDermott train, given everything he has done to help turn this franchise around, but unfortunately feel like the Bucs felt, when they fired Dungy and replaced him with Gruden, to help get them over the top. That being said, it's easy to fire someone. Replacing them with a superior coach/leader, is the hard part. Things do seem stale and feel like McDermott has lost the team. There are also no more assistants left to fire/blame. All in all, I don't think you can fire him after 1 bad year, unless you are 100% sure that you can land an upgrade. and please....no more DC's. You have to stick with the times and hire an offensive minded coach.
-
Thank you for always being the voice of reason. I've been calling for Brady to replace him for a bit now. When we hired Brady, I thought it was for this same reason. That being said, what are your expectations for these next 7 games?
-
I never thought that I'd arrive to this, but we need to fire the entire staff, and hire an offensive minded coach, to stop the regression. My vote is for Ben Johnson.

Is McDermott going to bench himself next?

Makes sense.

Agree on all points. I love Fitz and his elite mind. Don't know why that guy couldn't be the back up for Josh, just to have his brain in the room. His limitations were strictly physical. That's why he excelled against BB (mind over scheme), but severely struggled against the Revis lead Jets. Even early on in the season when we were scoring more pts, the issues were there. Some of us brought them up, and others would chose to ignore and flame us for it. We all now see it. Question is, how long do we allow it to happen? I'm also in the camp that McDermott is safe, but if he lets the season get away, by chosing to not strip play calling duties away from Dorsey, things could change.

I'd argue we have more talent on offense now, than we did 2 years ago. Kincaid has emerged as a really good #2, and both of our Guards were upgraded. Dorsey is in over his head. Too predictable, no feel for the game. We went from a team that rarely punted, to a team who disappears on offense for 2-3 quarters at a time.

Is Josh turning into a one read guy??

I don't agree on the Harty one, but this one was definitely a miss. All around bad. -

Watch the route by Hardy, terrible job. Have to at least give the guy some type of juke our quick hitch to sell something short or intermediate. He just runs in a straight line. -

Same thoughts exactly. Also, Gabe wasn't wide open. They were in zone coverage and agabe was in the middle of 2 backers. Was their a window yes, wide open no. If Harry runs a better route, maybe he scores. You have to get the DB to bite on something. NFL corners are too good to just run in straight lines. -
McDermott answers why we stopped uptempo offense
Allen2Moulds replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
He doesn't win enough in 1 on 1 situations. However, I would like to see him run more crossers. He seemed to excell with those. We're all familiar with his great toe tap catches in the playoffs. I would start with the removal of Dorsey 1st, to see if he can be utilized a little different as well. The best way to protect the defense is by having sustained drives and scoring points. We ran tons of up tempo against the Bucs and we're blowing them out. We stopped, and had to hold our breath on another hail mary. Are defense was built to play with a lead, and force teams to pass. Nothing kills a D more than 3 and outs. -
McDermott answers why we stopped uptempo offense
Allen2Moulds replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think both things can be true and are true. Dorsey is the bigger problem, no argument from me there. But outside of the amazing one handed contested catch against Minkah, you can't tell me Gabe is good at contested catches, you're completely wrong on that. -
I don't think we need to, and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this Dabol's offense still? It's all about making minor tweaks, and knowing when to call certain plays, and how to attack a defense. Dorsey amazingly has zero feel for the game. That's why our offense feels so clunky.

The problem with Gabe, is that he's a bigger receiver, that doesn't create much separation unless it's a deep route. Unfortunately for a big WR, he does not make contested catches or use his size well. -
Why is Benford playing off on 3ed and 2, and back back peddling
-
I never thought I'd be this excited over a street FA, but it's exactly what we needed. Good call!

I really enjoy Marino's indepth analysis, and will await the all 22. I'm sure Allen missed some throws, but I'd like to compare the number of throws he missed, to how many times was everyone covered up. The other thing I noticed last night was how bad our line pass protected. We made the Giants front seven look like the Jets front seven. McGovern's worst game as a Bill. He's been great, until last night.

The timing of everything just seems off. Out of sync, uncordinated.
-
I think we also have to account for the fact, that under Daboll, we had an inferior oline, mainly both guard positions. Teams knew we couldn't run it, and we still had success passing the ball at will. I think the front office is to blame as well. They have continually failed to replace the Beasley position. They have invested more on TE (Knox big contract) and a 1st round pick on Kincaid, than on WR. Where is our return investment?
-
It's absolutely wild he continues to do that. Dorsey has a horrible feel for the game, and it's not so much what he calls, but when he calls it. Even on that 3rd down that was a bit low to Knox but still catchable. We knew we had to try and get a 1st down. 1st down run...ok. they should of tried playaction on 2nd down. Defense was still totally selling out for the run in 2nd down. He also always calls one too many runs. We ripped 2 10 yard runs. The 3rd play should be playaction. Short run for next t nothing, than playaction. His timing is just horribly off all the time.

As we all hate on Ken Dorsey today let’s remember
Allen2Moulds replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree, but as others here have stated, 35-40% of the time seems to be a good target. We are so good under center, that it's mind boggling, that it's not our base. -

I heard on WGR this morning that we ran playaction on 5 plays. The week before against MIA we ran playaction on 35%. I wish Dorsey would fall in love with playaction, the way he does with the shotgun draw up the middle. This eads me to the biggest 2 issues with Dorsey, it comes down to things, that you alluded to. 1. Improper use of Personal (Hines last year, Kincaid and Hardy this year). 2. Formation usage. When and how often to utilize formations. -
Jet Lag Or Just Another Slumbering Loss?
Allen2Moulds replied to pocoboy's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree with this and will add. Dorsey called an awesome game in Miami, best one yet. 35% play action. In this game he ran play action on an astonishing 5 plays. How many more failed shotgun handoffs are we going to make? We run and throw better, when Josh is under center.
