BOTH things can be true here.

Fans are not "massaging" this signing into a viable strategy. We're one day into FA and we haven't held the draft. How about we wait until after these two are done before declaring what fans are settling for? BTW, adding McGovern has moved the needle and improved the Bill's O line. The key here is the change not the absolute impact of a guy like McGovern. Staffold was one of the worst pass blocking guards in the NFL, McGovern is in the middle in pass pro. That represents a huge improvement. Staffold also got hit with a lot of penalties whereas McGovern is rarely penalized. Adding McGovern has improved the O line. With respect to Cook, we should see further improvement as he goes from his rookie to his 2nd year in the NFL. And Cook showed real flashes of being the best Bills RB since Shady.
-
We had one of the worst O lines in the NFL last season. The addition of McGovern moves us solidly towards the middle of the pack. If after all is said and done the Bills O line performs as an average group next season then the Bills offense will be much better, and they were pretty darn good as it was.
-
In pass protection he's a huge upgrade over Saffold. The guy also almost never gets penalized. If you recall Saffold had a lot of penalties to go along with his turnstile play at guard. Also McGovern should be playing right guard and Bates will move back to left guard. So we will likley see improved play out of Bates to. Pressure up the middle is the worst kind of pressure a QB faces and this signing will likely reduce that problem quite a bit.
-
The comparison that matters is to Saffold. And what Bean has done is replace a guard at the bottom of the PFF rankings with one in the middle of the rankings for pass pro. That's a huge improvement and will be noticed on the field next season.
-
A solid starter is a huge upgrade over Staffold.
-
At a minimum the Bills should be talking to him.
-
He appears to be following the Drew Brees trajectory and not the Tom Brady one. I could see significant decline as early as next season.

Lamar Jackson wants guarantees that exceed Watson contract
CincyBillsFan replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I suspect they were thinking about the public impact on their fan bases expectations and their young QB's, not about any appearances of collusion. In fact it would have been stupid to insinuate that they were looking at Jackson as Lamar's contract demands make signing him very difficult and publicly expressing interest at the start of the process hurts their negotiating position. And for these specific teams saying nothing at the start is saying that they're interested in Jackson. BTW I enjoy seeing the Dolphins mess up as much as the next Bills fan but even I would think it cruel and unusual punishment to put Tua through another round of Miami going after a big name QB. -

Not to mention: * Jackson has failed to complete the last two seasons with significant injuries. * Jackson has been very bad in his four playoff games where he has a 1 - 3 record. * Any team that currently needs a QB would likely have to significantly change their offensive scheme to accommodate his playing style. -
A 40 year old Aaron Rogers. IMO Rogers is following the trajectory of Drew Brees and not Tom Brady. This means the drop off can happen as soon as next season. Best case scenario is Rogers falls fast within 2 seasons. Wilson a top 5 WR some day - maybe. Next season - in your dreams.
-
The Bills often won 7 games (out of 16 and not 17 games) with some pretty QBing during the drought. Are you thinking less then a 1st & 2nd rounder? Because if it's that much they're mortgaging the future. And don't forget the CAP hit here even with the Packers paying some of the salary.
-
Yea but Diggs towers over all the Jet's WR's and gives the Bills a decided advantage in this position group. IMO the Jet's are going to mortgage the future bringing in Rogers. The Jet's roster and coaching staff are not on the cusp of winning a SB if they get QB right. They would be better off bringing in Jimmy G and continue to build their roster through the draft. Just my opinion but I can honestly say that as a Bills fan I hope the Jets bring in Rogers.
-
The Jets may think they're in Stafford/Rams territory but they don't have a fraction of the coaching brilliance of McVay and the Jet's roster is not nearly as good as the Rams was in 2021. Oh and Stafford right now is better then Rogers.
-
I would take our WR group over theirs and that's a problem for the Jets and Rogers. I also like Knox a lot more then any TE the Jets can put on the field. Both O lines are bad. The Jet's RB situation isn't much better, if at all, then the Bills given we don't know when and how well their rookie RB sensation comes back from his knee injury. I like our Offensive coordinator better then the Jets hack at OC. And right now Allen is a much better QB then Rogers. So why is everyone panicking?
-
I agree. Rogers couldn't lift GB into the playoffs last season and on offense I think the 2022 Packers had more play makers and a better O line then the 2022 Jets offense. As an aside with the exception of QB the Jets have drafted very well the last couple of seasons. They will be giving up a lot of draft capital to acquire Rogers. is that really a good idea for a 40 year old QB not named Brady?

Diggs unfollows Buffalo, follows Cowgirls 🤷♂️
CincyBillsFan replied to DaggersEOD's topic in The Stadium Wall
The best thing Allen could have done after this season was to walk away from football for a couple of months to decompress and replenish his spirit. The worst thing he could have done after this season was to hit the weights a week after the loss to the Bengals. And for the record if Bean can get the O line to AVERAGE and add one play maker Allen will be a 5500 total yards/50+ total TD's guy every year he stays healthy going forward. -

So Allen doesn't work out hard in the off season? Now this is a new angle to trash Allen. One I didn't see coming. -
QB Carr to visit the Jets (Update: signed with the Saints)

Remember Jet's fans are only limited by their imaginations. Just like we Bills fans were over the two decade long drought. -
QB Carr to visit the Jets (Update: signed with the Saints)

This is how we Bills fans talked all off season after another year in NFL purgatory. Sorry, but I'm not buying that the Jet's roster is as good as some are saying. They have a couple of very good young players but there are big holes in this roster particularly on the O line. The playoff drought was only 2 years old but it had been what 5 years sine a playoff win? And after 4 straight SB appearances most of us Bills fans saw the team on the edge of a cliff. As I recall the reaction to signing Bledsoe was very positive at the time - both among Bills fans and in the national sports media. The goal was to get back to the SB, not just make the playoffs. I don't know bout you but after the Bills opened with a 31 - 0 thrashing of NE at home and then a 35 - 17 beat down of the Jags on the road I was feeling pretty good about the Bills and Bledsoe. -

Yes Bledsoe! When he came to the Bills the chatter was that he was going to lift a good roster over the top and into the playoffs. And things sure started out great. As far as knowing what I'm talking about, I question your knowledge saying that Carr is "much better than Bledsoe". Sure Carr doesn't throw as many INT's because he's careful with the ball to a fault but Bledsoe did throw for over 44,000 yards and 250 TD's in his career. My guess is that if Bledsoe was playing today his stats and winning record would look a lot like Carrs. -
Leslie Frazier "taking a year off from coaching" per Bills PR
CincyBillsFan replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
It was a total team collapse. But it was also ANOTHER example of an elite QB and powerful offense having their way with a Frazier coached defense in the playoffs. Had the defense played lights out maybe we win that game 16 - 13. But it didn't. In fact at key points in that game - at the start and after both Bills scores - the defense went to sleep and allowed long time consuming scoring drives to happen. And for the record the offense played lights out in BOTH of last years playoff games and yet we went 1 - 1 thanks to the defense. -

But rarely against superior offenses. Frazier's defenses could shut down average to weak offenses to a degree that seldom happens in the current NFL. Hence the high regular season rankings. But against the top QB's & offenses, particularly in the playoffs, the story was not the same. For sure Frazier had Jackson & the Ravens figured out and he gets an A+ for that. Otherwise the failings of his defense at key points against top offenses was a recurring theme. -

Yep and as I recall some of the usual suspects on TBD were pissed at Allen for taking a sack late in the 4th quarter and almost losing a fumble. In that playoff game, as he has done in several, Allen put the team on his shoulders and carried the Bills to victory. If Rivers hadn't lost his touch at the end of that game the Colts would likely have won it thanks in no small part to the D's 4th quarter meltdown. -

The key point in recent Bills history was at the end of the 2020 season when Buffalo opted to make do with less on the offense and maximize the firepower on defense. An offensively minded coaching/management group would have recognized the unique talent the Bills had at QB and surrounded Allen was as much talent as the CAP would allow. Under no circumstances would they let the O line atrophy in the way it has.
