Earlier this year he was keeping that off arm tucked (taking a bite out of the burger) and resetting his feet and not giving in to using just arm throws. But Mahomes nearly threw an INT with pretty bad mechanics and decisions so.... hope Allen just pulls out of his funk and finds a rhythm. -

Did Kim Jones of NFLN question our DL's manhood?
WideNine replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have known quite a few players at different levels that are like this. Incredibly soft-spoken, many far more intellectual than the stereotype projects, but they had a switch, alter-ego, or game face; whatever you want to call it. There are reasons folks don't normally interview these guys right before a game. Most are in their zone and are like a different person when it is time to go. But yeah, I listened to that interview and felt like she was asking if they had any balls. Had to sting a bit. -

Harrison drew a lot of comparisons to Kyle Williams. Neither would be great fits at nose taking on doubles, but have high engines and could excel inside shedding the 1-on-1 blocks. His fit is spelling Oliver's role in the rotation to the left or right of the 4-3 nose (shading the center). I have seen them play him at 1-tech and he has been blown off his spot - badly. -
Have the Bills gone CHEAP at the Nose Tackle position?
WideNine replied to LB48's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep. From the Panthers - former 1st round pick https://bufbills.com/player-bios/94_vernon_butler.pdf About the only one on the d-line who has the prototypical build to fill that role of 1-tech DT, but other than that splash play against the Raiders I have not really noticed him. -

They are really missing that 1-tech defensive tackle that forces the G-C double team w/o giving up too much ground freeing up our other interior DT; Star filled that role last year most of the time. That position really is key to how Sean likes to use his front 4. That 1-tech is not Harrison or Oliver; They are not really built to take on double teams. Still teams have been able to double-team Oliver a lot and that is just a reflection of that lack of a 4-3 NT who would normally demand that attention. Not sure if Beane will consider a trade for someone like the Saints Rankins (could fit the bill, but has some injury history) or they just ride this out and hope for the best and target big-bodied 1-tech DT in the draft - someone like Kentucky's Quinton Bohanna. Although not sure if his knee injury is serious....tough to be an NFL personnel guy these days. The Jets have a fire sale going on, but I cannot see them trading within our division. -
I still think they had Josh Oliver or Jace in their sights - Oliver had the largest hands and was very sure handed and very athletic, but the Jags jumped in front of us (and GB) and grabbed him. Greenbay picked up Jace Sternberger next...before Knox. I am sure Knox was up there on Beanes board too. The athleticism was undeniable, but the hands were still a bit inconsistent. Ol' Miss had a bevy of weapons and in their offense Knox did not get a lot of looks so the hands were a legit "?" when evaluating. But we may want to count our blessings Jace was on Greenbay's IR last year, and Oliver has been sitting on the Jags IR both years due to freak injuries. So 2019 was a deep draft for TE's, but many have struggled staying healthy.

I think he is, and would prefer he play in the NFC. -
This. It pressures that robber/spy guy they have behind their line. If he skates with our TE Beasley has a free release to carve up their shallow zones, and he is no longer in his run gap. TEs are mismatches for most DBs, safeties, and LBs. They usually have the edge in positioning leverage and jump balls, and can rack up the RAC even on dump offs. The rest is up to Allen to be patient, but Daboll can help our eager QB by running this patient take-what-the-defense-is-giving offense UP TEMPO. That only leaves the last detail - execution. You cannot run up-tempo if you're offense is a error-prone flag-generating machine. Do this, and they have a good chance of forcing teams out of those deep zone defenses which opens things up for our WRs.

Slot CB - Immediate Upgrade Required?

He's been exposed, and teams are game-planning to leverage that exposure. Not to take anything away from Tannehill's game (this means I actually am), he was grinning back there in the pocket, with too much time and often looking Taron's way...on an island with 2-3 yards of separation from the guys he was covering. He was more than willing to keep doing that as long as the Bills had to have him in man coverage so they could keep enough guys in the box to ensure that Henry did not start gashing them. The Titans were able to do this because they never fell behind in the game and could keep feeding Henry the rock. We stopped Henry for the most part, but got gashed everywhere else. -
Running game Woes and its not on the RB's
WideNine replied to BBills88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He has always graded out middle tier as a guard some rankings have him as 35th out of 82 guards reviewed. That is not terrible, but he grades lower in his run blocking. I do like that he does finish blocks if he gets into the pads and has some nasty dog in him that this line needs. -

Well I am sure for them it can seem like the little Dutch boy running out of fingers and toes to stop the leaks at the *****. I think they focus on fixing the front issues, then next their almost nonexistent 3rd down stops. Do that and maybe the patient does not bleed out. -
Kroft has been on the field, but I believe he has had more blocking assignments in that #2 TE depth role. It is not like he lost his hands after the Rams game. They had him in Knox's role with Lee Smith getting the bulk of the blocking assignments in their 12 package. Daboll did have Lee release on a short curl for one TD, but I think he was Allens 4th or 5th read. No worries about challenging my theory, its all good.

Our o-line has been weak run blocking and finishing their blocks. Teams have scouted this too. Morse and Dawkins are having a good season, but the whole line looks like a cluster because a few pieces are not able execute their assignments and finish their blocks against 4 man fronts. Far too often I see them dancing inplace with d-linemen instead of moving them, allowing them to stay in their gap and shed them to make the stop. On the flip side both the running play calls and Singletary's penchant for dancing a bit behind the line makes the situation worse as they have to hold their initial blocks longer and that ability is usually not there or inconsistent at best. Daboll can do this unit favors by trying to keep the running plays straight forward and quick. And they need to emphasize that concept with Singletary - hit your gap fast. We need Ford to play with better leverage - keeping his feet under him, with more knee bend, and better pad level. The kid is pretty raw and has a ways to go, but the cupboard is not empty. Hoping getting some nasty back with Feliciano will help, though run blocking has not been his strength. -

I admit. I was actually a Taron Johnson fan. He plays fearless and has been good against the run in past years, but he has truly struggled with coverage assignments. Maybe more of a traditional SS than a heavy nickle role player. -
I think Beane learns quickly. Their first few attempts to fill out our roster with WRs found guys that were physical mismatches (at least passing that eye test), but they had poor hands and catching radius. He then went after Smoke, Beasley, Diggs, Davis... what do all these receivers have in common? Phenomenal hands, then they still check off the other boxes. It does not matter if your WR has world class speed if he has hands of stone. The first thing a receiver has to be able to do is catch the ball. I think at this stage I would trade the more steady hands of Kroft for the athleticism bonus you have with Knox. It would give Allen another option to that reliable safety net that Diggs has been. We all saw how the Titans were double and tripling Josh's go-to receiver.
-
The biggest knock on him according to his own teammates (off-the-record) was that he could not learn the playbook. The offensive staff were constantly trimming plays back to half-field reads. Maybe things would have gone different with different OC and mentoring, but he had lost the locker room and as a QB that is tough to recover.

Bills have addressed slippery turf issue
WideNine replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Recall this especially with Beasley during a game, I was complaining about their equipment guy and getting better cleats. Every time he would make a "football" move for RAC he was slipping to the turf. An issue like that can also lead to injuries too. -

I think Atlanta will make a hard push for him, but either way tanking is not a bad plan for the Jets even if they plan to pass on Trevor if he is really giving them the cold shoulder. Collect as many draft picks as possible by jettisoning marketable players ala Miami, if you land at #1 you can shop that Trevor pick to a lot of teams willing to sell their soul and the Jets have another draft pick haul. Rebuild with a ton of draft capital in full progress. Now, how well teams have been able to scout college players this season.....meh.
