I don’t care how you read my observations, because if you ask 10 people how they interpret facial expressions , you could hear several different takes. My point is I saw a man tensed up with an assignment that will define our season and he’s coming up to a deadline and he’s got is his schwansburger to show for it.

Excellent post, very insightful. I guess you saw something different. You don’t think this guy, who’s been riding on Josh and Cook’s coattails has any pressure on him to make a meaningful acquisition to give us a chance in the playoffs. So far he’s made Bills fans vomit on their sweaters with his inactivity and if we get stiffed you’ll be left with your post.
-
I see him on Pat MaCafee sticking his chest out defiantly questioning people who disagree with his personnel decisions but at some point a few days before the deadline your ass puckers when you’re faced with failing at making a crucial move to help your team. I saw a guy in the press box who was watching the dominoes falling and he was seeing options dry up.
-
No just on TV, what’s your point? He’s made calls about every available FA and all I hear is how much cap space we have currently. Will you be asking about how confident he is when he says we’re good with what we have. Tell me about how we’re set up to win with the way this roster has been constructed. Being a good fan doesn’t mean you support crappy management and criticize detractors.. I swallowed that stuff for 2 decades. No more

Your statement describes the fix we’re in. Beane is like a CEO making business decisions in hopes of being a playoff team in concert with the new stadium and if a SB falls into our lap, fine but no heroic efforts should be expected. Draft capital will not be squandered on any trade deadlines.
-
Nice take, I wish I could be more confident Beane makes a move. I watched him in the press box yesterday and he looked shaky. He knows this team desperately needs fortification and I think he’s afraid to spend draft capital to make it happen. Everyone says he’s making calls about all these positions but where are the F-ing deals. If we get stiffed we’ll suffer the consequences in January.
-
I agree with some of what you referenced but it’s a little unsettling how many productive players NE brought in with their draft and in FAs. Their WR room has been excellent( clearly more productive than ours)and their TEs(Hooper and Henry) are as good as any. The question you need to concern yourself with is not the talent level comparison this year but are you confident we will be able to supplement the elite skill position players going forward. I’m not, Beane has been a disappointment with personnel for the last 3years. Now, at a time when additional talent needs to be added( vertical receiver, secondary(safety and cornerback) and Defensive tackle) it’s coming down to 24 hours before the deadline and our tongues are hanging out waiting for something to happen.
-
He’s basically Hoecht. Did you see how active Hoecht was yesterday . I don’t remember our defense looking like that this year. Phillips gets pressure on QBs, is tough against the run and is a physical presence.
-
I hope the fanbase realizes the urgency you referenced about bringing in more talent. I like our chances with a vertical threat receiver, some quality secondary piece and some depth on the D-line. Without at least 2 of these positions being addressed, we’ll struggle against quality teams.
-
Why aren’t we in on these three guys? Why aren’t we in on Shaheed already? Beane tries to hit home runs and win every transaction but sometimes your needs and the other suitors prevent this and necessity demands you give up assets.
-
I’m starting to be concerned about our GM’s ability to make trades to fortify positions that are weaknesses. I’m so tired of hearing how salary cap constraints are preventing Beane making moves. How does Howie Roseman bring in 3 quality starters with all the ProBowlers on their roster. This guy doesn’t not project urgency in the way he runs the Bills. Hopefully the win against KC doesn’t put back in his shell and we get stiffed.

A Few Thoughts about the Chiefs Game - Community Edition
HamptonBillsfan replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
How can a team with seemingly no #1 or #2 receivers look so efficient and dominant against a great defense and DC? The answer is a really strong run game O-line and a play caller and QB that finds matchups that can be exploited. Our TEs who are really good in the pass game and getting downfield just found holes in a confused and a step slow KC secondary. Josh was so efficient and safe with his throws that every time we needed a score he found a way to shred their Spagnola designed defense. None of his blitzes got close, and Cook slashed his way to KC having to load the box opening up opportunities downfield for Josh. On defense, Hoecht made an impact before his devastating injury. He’ll be missed. Our secondary had their best game and made Mahomes look ordinary. I may have been wrong about Bishop. He looked physically tough and broke up some crucial 3rd down passes. -
Beane reminds me of Andrew Friedman this year. Friedman, reluctant to dip into some top tier minor league talent or major league prospects, made essentially no additions at the deadline to improve the team thinking with largest payroll in baseball if healthy, will be good enough to win it all . So with no quality relievers he’s being exposed in the WS.Beane, convinced that with an improved O-line supporting Josh and Cook providing another dimension with the run game, hasn’t addressed the receiver room since Diggs left and now with receivers on 7 teams wishlist he has to overpay because the Biils pick late in rounds. He could have acquired someone in the offseason but was guilty of overvaluing Coleman, Moore and Samuel as a viable part of the receiver room. Palmer is at best a 3 and is arguably a slot receiver. I’m praying Beane brings in a quality receiver and a reliable secondary piece or we will be playing undermanned as a wildcard team, frustrated with an early exit from the playoffs.

The vibe is much better after dismantling Carolina with our run game. If we can have a balanced attack and keep Mahomes from running wild, I think Josh will find a way at home with the 12th man. I like our additions with Hoecht and Okunjobi with a revitalized Rousseau and AJE. The LBs Thompson and Williams looked better than Bernard and Milano( who never plays). Throw in Hancock and a more active Taron Johnson and the secondary looks equipped to deal with the Chiefs receivers. I think the game comes down to TOs and Josh having his best games since the Baltimore miracle.

Did we already miss the window with Josh
HamptonBillsfan replied to BritishBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Stick to Arsenal soccer. Why would you ever question Josh’s window at 28 or 29?The team will be in the playoffs every season he’s QB. Whether we can win a SB will depend on the roster (particularly on defense) and the O-line. We should have won the NE game but all teams stub their toe. Atlanta was on Sean for not having the team prepared and Brady having the worst play calling game since he took over. Is this you throwing in the towel after 6 games? Let’s take a breath. -
It’s obvious that Josh is a bit scattershot with his throws, especially as he’s avoiding rushers. The good news is that we are transitioning to a Cook led offense which takes advantage of our O-lines strength. With our receiving corps the coaches believe exposing Josh to free rushers as he goes through progressions and tries to fit throws in tight windows won’t work against top defenses. Instead, Cook is able to put us in favorable down and distance opening up quick release, safe throws to Kincaid, Shakir and Coleman where they can get plenty of YAC. It seems like Cook is capable of taking any carry the distance and that possibility has to open up plenty of opportunities for single covered receivers. I see Josh having plenty of good games but this is our best strategy for now. The most impressive part of our game today was the energy on defense with our new lineman and the emergence of very active LBs( Shaq and Dorian) This team will be getting tougher every week.

It’s time to have an uncomfortable conversation about Taron
HamptonBillsfan replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Gives me the impression, since draft classes and FAs are not translating to any impact players and poor depth due to reliance on brittle players ( Hairston, Milano, Strong, Bernard etc) our personnel department needs to be better or replaced. Why does Beane and Sean get a pass for 3 years of bad drafting and no FA improvement in the secondary or LB position. It’s a bottom line industry, our defense doesn’t pass the eye test. Schemes are bad and personnel needs improvement. -
It’s time to have an uncomfortable conversation about Taron
HamptonBillsfan replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
How about looking at the overall defensive approach starting with Sean’s personnel decisions, having Tre as your starting corner with every other new secondary addition either out for the season or coming back around week 10. Then there’s the coaching where primary targets(Diggs,London) are wide open time after time and on one on one tackling opportunities Bishop can’t make a play. This is an indictment of our system and Taron is not being put in a position to succeed. Let’s hope Beane can be proactive enough to bring in a difference maker in time to salvage home field in the playoffs. -
Who's the Emotional Leader on the Bills ??
HamptonBillsfan replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t blame Josh for being a multimedia phenomenon but as a Bills fan a few more performances like the Atlanta game and I will start to question his focus. Now anyone, even the great ones, have bad games with TOs and bad decisions, but watching his body language during that game was concerning. It might be a reaction to the surrounding cast’s inability to make plays or Brady’s futility, but Josh needs to rally the troops when things go south. Two losses to inferior teams is an indictment on Sean and the coaches but we’re used to Josh overcoming anything. Our roster needs to be clicking, because they are ordinary without maximum effort. There are only 5or 6 big time talents on the whole team(Josh, Cook, Oliver, Shakir, Kincaid, Johnson) with an above average O-line. In today’s NFL there are enough teams that can beat any team if the effort, coaching and leadership is not working together. -
Forget about Ohio State, tell Beane to watch KC/ Vegas. It’s obvious that KC with Rice, Worthy,Brown and Kelce have much better offensive weapons than us. After watching Coleman be neutralized in 2 or 3 straight games, ask yourself who besides Shakir are we throwing to. Moore has been invisible, Palmer is ok but Brady has not used him, Samuels never plays and Shaver shouldn’t be on the roster. Kincaid is good but this is the perfect formula to get Josh trying to do too much and getting TOs as a result. If we don’t add to the roster count on frustration for another year.
-
Sadly, Beane’s resume is one of spotty drafts and misses on FAs, saved by a masterful maneuver getting Josh, Diggs and drafting and resigning Cook. It just shows how important the QB position is in having success in the NFL. Getting to a SB is a different animal. The supporting cast, especially at the skill positions and on defense determine your ultimate championship fate. At some point, a GM has to create a sustainable roster or ownership has the responsibility to the fanbase,,who are starved for a championship, to make changes.
-
That would mean they would sacrifice the season ahead of the new stadium. Replacing Beane is starting to be a popular ask by fans, but will making the playoffs and losing in the divisional round be enough to justify his ouster?
-
I wonder how long it will take Beane to make a move to improve our defense or receiver corps. If he stands pat you would think he has Terry under the heavy anesthesia. With the new stadium coming Beane may feel he’s safe to stand pat figuring Josh will find a way to the playoffs.
-
That’s the problem with a Defensive coach as a Head Coach, he has little input in offensive game planning and play calling. Brady is showing his inability to maximize Josh’s ability and exploit defenses. It seems in the new NFL, defensive minded coaches are at a disadvantage against the Reid’s, McVays, Shanahans, O’Connells, Payton’s etc. That doesn’t mean great OCs can’t overcome their Head Coaches, but when injuries and roster deficiencies present themselves, you get games like Monday night.
-
Reflect on this, Beane has watched the same games as we have and he sees the same ineptitude. Now if he stands pat and doesn’t make any meaningful changes (replacing Babich, acquiring secondary help, acquiring a receiver that gets separation, cutting or trading oft injured or unproductive players opening up roster spots) we know he’s not the guy to win with. His drafts are terrible, he’s constantly in cap hell with no real impact player other than Josh and Cook, and he’s hitched his wagon to a defensive minded coach that is presiding over a stale offense that is not capitalizing on Josh’s strengths. We have beaten only teams with losing records and against an inferior Atlanta team, we were worked. We need a GM that’s proactive or we’re not getting over the hump.
