  1. I was simply commenting on character. And yes Newton is more of an athlete but Mayfield has demonstrated far more accuracy and pocket presence. If Carolina offered to trade Cam to the Bills would the team say no because he does not fit the character they want for the team, obviously not. It’s his swagger that carried the team to the Super Bowl and he has not divided the locker room or embarrassed the franchise.
  2. He does not have an agent.yahoo has another story about it. He’s a hard worker, with a chip on his shoulder and a true team leader, why is that not a fit? Because he got drunk once and made a mistake? He’s brash but not disruptive. His character and attitude concerns are in line with Cam Newton when he was coming out, his competitive nature and brash approach are also similar to Newton. So the coach and GM have selected a guy with this kind of attitude before.
  3. I think that it may be impossible for us to land Cousins. A top ten QB has never hit the free agent market before without there being some sort of injury issue looming. On top of that Washington has spent 3 years jacking up his market value by franchising him and having him play well. On top of that free agency always raises the value of the contract. Clay is a good example of that on our team and Gilmore is an example of that as well (or remember the deal Bird signed). The first time a top 10 QB ever hits free agency is going to cause a feeding frenzy. Cleveland and the Jets both have 3 times the cap space we have so there is no way we win a bidding war with them. All in all I am beginning to think Cousins is a pipe dream.
  4. Tyrod is a hard QB to quantify. He makes plays with his legs but makes the fewest plays with his arm. He avoids pressure, except when he gets sacked. he throws few ints but he also ends drives with too many behind the sticks throws. He looks alright with QBR or other metrics but he led an offense that couldn't score against any quality opponents.
  5. Look at Cousins stats over the last 3years then look at Matt Staffords they are identical. Stafford is getting 30 million per year and Staffords contract will be what Cousins will identify as a starting point, QB value always starts with what theLast similar guy went for. Then on top of that you have the free agency mark up and you get a 30 to 35 million dollar price tag. He’ll sign for 150 mil over 5 years 50 mil signing bonus and 70 mil guaranteed at signing. As for Bradford I think the list of established vets willing to take the role of place holder for a rookie is short. Bradford would be willing to simply to prove his knee holds. If he gets hurt then the rookie goes in, if he stays healthy then he’ll probably play well enough that people aren’t calling for the rookie to start.
  6. I agree You don’t let the guy that won you double digit games walk and then keep the guys who spend multiple seasons on IR.
  7. I would like to see us target Bradford in free agency and then trade 21,22 and 56 to move up to 4 and take Mayfield. I think Cousins will get 30-35 million which is too much and I’d rather build around a rookie than a 34 year old Alex Smith.
  8. I suppose I meant specifically. For instance which vet should we target? Which rookie should we draft?
  9. Every year (at least at the old board) the forum is flooded with QB threads regarding the draft and free agency. This year in particular there is a ton of options, lots of free agents and draft realevant QBs, and the Bills have clearly indicated a desire to make a change. So what do you think the team should do at the QB position? what would it take to get that done? and what risks do you see involved with it your preference?
  10. Stubhub could settle this since they get the zip of people buying tickets, which out of town zip buys the most tickets.
  11. so There is 3 options, keep him and build around him for the future, be a team that gets 150 yards passing and 150 yards rushing and hopes to win close games. Or pay him 18 mil to be a backup next year. Or get rid of him. The choice seems clear he’s fools gold.
  12. The last two years we ran an offense tailored to Tyrod, this year we didn’t. That explains the production drop off. I’d rather see how his scheme works with player better suited to it.
  13. Trust the process. I think we were running a system that did not suit our players and production suffered as a result. I also think it was intentional, so that the players that do stay know the system and the players we bring in will be better fits for it. We had a bad roster and lacked the players to build around so they chose to build around the system instead.
  14. Only if Favre is unavailable, or better yet call the ghost of Otto Graham and see if he’ll suit up one more time. You beat me to my joke.
  15. I forgot Mallet, Geno was talked about as first round but always in the context of not being worth it but some team will reach so I know it’s splitting hairs. I can’t recall the last time this many QBs were in the conversation as first rou d picks at this point in the process. 1983 had 5 taken 3 were HOF, 1999 had 5, two were good starters (until Culpeper got hurt and was never the same) , 2004 had 4 taken, 3 were great and 2011 had 4 taken one was great. That points to 50/50 odds meaning if 5 or 6 are taken odds would favor 2 or 3 being good. Given the needy teams and the number of successful options in this draft a bunch will be taken early,
  16. The draft is not safe, there is no such thing as a sure shot. Reggie Bush may be the best example, people put him in the HOF before draft day and he ended up being meh. That being said a top 10 QB is worth more than any other 2 players. No one knows for sure. But playing the odds says one of the six guys being talked about for the first round will be a stud. If the Bills think they can get a Year in year out star then he will be worth more than any other 4players you can draft. So odds are all 6 go before we draft and odds are one two or even three are great. Identify who the star you want is and go get him .
  17. There is never a sure thing but if they think that one of the QBs is a franchise guy then you give up the farm for them. This feels like the first time in a generation where we realize we need a QB and where there seems to be viable draft options and where we have the ammunition to get one of those viable options. Those three pieces have never come together. We've always settled in one way or another. This feels like the year we don't have to and maybe they will be wrong but its better to go down swinging.
  18. For Mayfield we would need to get to 4 to Jump ahead of the Broncos and Jets. Even if the Broncos land Cousins I would think you would need to trade into 4 so that the Jets don't. I think that drafting 2 first rounders would be a franchise killer unless one quickly demonstrated they were head and shoulders above the other. If they were anywhere close to one another in production then you are committing yourself to 4 years of QB controversy, which I imagine would have a negative impact on development. So I'm in favor of trading up if there is a guy that is worth it. If our scouts tell us that this is 2004 2.0 then go get the best guy you can get and go as high as you can get to get him. You are better with Eli, Rivers or Ben than you are with Lossman and shaub. If this is another 2011 where there is more hype than quality QBs then take the one you feel is the best when 22 rolls around. in other words it depends on scouting, and evaluation.
  19. Why would we cut clay? Do people think he was so bad that hes worth getting rid of even if we don't gain anything for it? Do people think we would be better with 9 Mil of dead cap room than with Charles Clay on the roster?
  20. I agree with what you are saying for the most part, the QBs have been suspect however that is why few of them had anyone considering them as draftable. There have been few first rounderes and aside from the injury bug Weeden is the only one of those few who is a straight bust. I'm sure conference will be a factor in evaluation but The last highly touted Oklahoma prospect looks like he would be a quality player if his leg would just stop falling apart.
  21. I agree, but there is risk to the draft and we already need 1 RB why make that 2.
  22. So you think the Big12 is more likely to recruit injury prone QBs? Ore does something about playing in the big 12 weaken your ACL. Should we worry about the pac 12 QBs because of Palmer and Luck battling injuries? In all seriousness conference, or division matter but they are all part of the evaluation process. Should we start looking at FCS schools because 100% of the FCS qbs drafted high in the NFL are successful.
  23. Are we really that tight under the cap that we need to create holes in our roster in order to save a few million? Seems like suspect logic. This is a year to cut under preforming contracts, Glenn, and Tyrod, not cut solid performers to save a few bucks.
