He has some nice traits, but I don't think he has potential to be the answer. As others have said, I'm not sure if it makes sense to take a late round developmental guy if Peterman is on the roster, unless you are moving on from Peterman. If you can't trade up, I think you just wait until next year. I think we either see: vet high end rookie (trade up) Peterman or vet younger vet who has little experience and some potential Peterman (try to find the answer next year)

This is a good question. They also draft in front of us. But I will say they have a lot of talent on their defense. Chandler Jones, Haason Reddick, Deone Bucannon and a really good secondary. Maybe he can get something out of Robert Nkemdiche. I'm assuming the would transition into a 4-3. I think where we need to worry is at the linebacker spot as they will be looking for the same type of talent as us. I suppose they could play Reddick at the Mike and Bucannon at the Will, but they would be very undersized there.

Actually not a bad fit for their offensive line. They are smaller and quicker than our guys. The question is who their QB will be.

I doesn't seem like visits mean a whole lot with this regime. With Whaley and Nix it was pretty easy to narrow it down to like 3 guys we were going to pick. Like when the entire world knew we were going to draft Kelvin Sheppard that one year. Preston Brown and John Miller were pretty obvious as well. I felt like last year I had no idea who we were going to pick. I know we met with Peterman but we met with the other quarterbacks as well and the Jones connection was kind of obvious. But I don't remember having White or Dawkinsn on the radar. I guess I'm trying to train myself to pay less attention to the pre draft visits and meetings.

I could see someone like the Giants falling in love dropping others down. How crazy would it be if Allen and Mayfield go 1-2? Rosen and Darnold sitting there at 3-4?

I really do like the guy and think he has a chance to be good. I think he's in that top four. However, I do not think there is any chance this regime drafts him.

I hear you. I just think that second group of quarterbacks in this draft, after the top 4 just aren't very good so it's just really hard to place. Do I think he would get drafted in front of a Mason Rudolph? Probably. Is he better than Connor Cook who went in the fourth a couple years ago? Probably not. I think it's hard to say but I don't think he would go undrafted. Probably in the 5-7 range. I could see him going in the fourth if a GM thought he was the least crappy of the second tier of quarterbacks, and thought they were getting a future Kirk Cousins as we apparently thought. Last year there was some hype about Peterman sneaking into that 2-4 range, but fifth was probably the right spot. I don't think he's a future starter but I don't think I can put a wrap on his career after a historically terrible half and bad pick at the end of a game for which he probably had zero reps. I'm not done with him yet and still think he is better than he has shown. I don't think we win the snow game without him making those throws to KB. Is he Kirk Couisns or just generic, smart, weakish arm quarterback? Not sure yet. Likely somewhere in between.

I've been pondering on this myself. I was thinking he'd be slotted somewhere around Luke Falk. But I see him probably dropping to the 4th or 5th round. He could drop farther with all of the quarterbacks available in free agency. I honestly think Allen, Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield got first round. Then someone will take a shot on Jackson and his athletic ability. After that I think it is going to be a very long wait for those other guys. Probably 4th or 5th, kinda like when Connor Cook kept falling.

I do buy that they do believe in Peterman and I could see this as a possible outcome if: They can't trade up. They can't get someone better than him in free agency or trade. They don't like the second tier QBs, Rudolph, Falk etc more than Peterman. I could see them bringing in a young vet who never had a shot before like Tyler Bray to compete with him, realistically expecting Peterman to win the job. They do like Peterman, otherwise they would not have made the move to him in San Diego. I do think this is a possible outcome if they don't like the QBs in this draft relative to where they pick. They aren't going to force it, and after that top tier are any of those guys really better than the guy they already have? I'm not so sure. I don't think the outcome is very likely, but I do think it is possible.

Moore is not good but he does make sense if we draft a young guy who we intend to start right away. He could be the veteran voice in the room and a guy who has played for Daboll. He is definitely not starter material. There will be some veteran in room if we draft a young guy. I think the options are: Sign crappy veteran like Matt Moore, Derek Anderson. Drew Stanton, Chad Henne. Trade up to draft young guy we intend to start right away. Sign or trade for veteran to be long term starter: Bradford, Cousins, Bridgewater, Keenum, Foles. Develop Peterman and late round guy. Sign or trade for really good bridge Alex Smith and draft quarterback we intend to develop for 1-2 years. (this scenario makes most sense to me and could still involve a trade up) Sign or trade for marginal young guys who still might have potential to compete with Peterman. Tyler Bray, Blaine Gabbert, Matt Barkley, Geno Smith (would not like this scenario but could see it if they really love Peterman) .It would be the Kevin kolb-EJ scenario

These are interesting points. We are seeing the success of guys like Keenum, Cousin, Foles, Garoppolo, because they were backups at points and got to observe and develop. Even Alex Smith wasn't very good until late in his 49ers career and we saw him take off with the move to KC. It takes time. That's why people may take a shot on AJ McCarron or even a guy like Tyler Bray, guys sitting in the background on rosters developing. Every year we hear during draft time that guys need to sit a year or two and develop, because they are not ready. But time and time again we see guys drafted early and starting right away and looking terrible. There are just so many guys who got thrown to the wolves too early and are now out of the game. I think at times this can work as we saw with guys like Peyton Manning or even Goff and Wentz in their second years. But to me these are exceptions. Owners need to commit to coaches and GMs for longer so that they can properly develop quarterbacks. The Bears threw Mitch Trubisky in there and everyone got fired anyway. They probably would have been better off letting him sit. Rodgers sat. Rivers sat. Even Eli sat for a little bit. Carson Palmer sat for 1 full season and the Bengals refused to play him. It was the best thing for him. I suppose we could see a return to that mentality, but it seems unlikely. Guys like Rosen, Darnold, Jackson are only 20-21 years old. That is just extremely young to be starting games in the NFL.

It's a strange firing, but I guess we have to wait and see what Carolina does with their offensive staff to understand what they were thinking. Edit: Nevermind...they hired Norv Turner. Norv wanted his son Scott to be the quarterback coach as a part of the deal and Rivera agreed to the terms. So that is why Dorsey was let go.

I think he is generally regarded as a guy that really understands the position. He played it at a high level in college and played a few years in the NFL with pretty much zero athletic ability or talent. He had a noodle arm, so he got everything he could by being smart and good technique. That's the kind of guy I want as my quarterback coach. He is very strong with the cerebral side of the game. He also has a background in pro scouting. He is generally credited with doing a lot for Cam Newton in terms of technique etc. I also like the idea of some young blood on the staff.

This makes sense. He should have final say. But if Daboll comes in an says "I've evaluated the offensive line and Castillo sucks and has to go,. Plus every team he's worked with has done better when he left," I hope McDermott doesn't say, "Juan is a dear friend and I trust him. You need to make it work with him." That's like Rex level cronyism. I think he should be gone along with Culley but I am not holding out hope.

Plus I believe he and McDermott share the same agent so I don't feel good about the possibility of him being gone. I hope logic prevails and he they let Daboll form his own staff, with their input. Anyone with any moniker of football knowledge knows Castillo needs to go. So if he stays it will be a classic case of cronyism.

I figure he's just really high on their board at the moment and seems like a great fit for them. The things that Hue and Haley are probably going to want to do, and they have a good amount of deep speed at the receiver spot. I don't think they will touch Rosen for a lot of reasons, and I think they will pick Allen's physical potential over Darnold. It's so early, but it is fun to anticipate. at this time. Maybe the just take Barkley 1 and take whichever QB is left at 4? Or maybe they stick with DeShone Kizer who has amazing physical talent and did some good things towards the end of the year. Or perhaps they make McCarron their guy. But the whispers about Cleveland taking Allen #1 make sense, even going back to Adam Schefter's report last season about him going #1. It could be the the industry decided Allen was going to be #1 regardless of what he did in college this year.

I lean this way as well. he seems to have everything they look for with none of the off field stuff, and he is a high end prospect. My gut, based on pure guess as well, Cleveland takes Allen, Giants take Rosen, we trade up to 3 for Darnold. A trade down make a ton of sense for the Colts.

I think overall they are saying good things about Tyrod because they will either try to trade him, or they will keep him if they can't find anything better. I think that's the whole thing. If you can't find someone better than probably need to stick with him. The really better find someone better though.

If we sign a guy like Cousins, he instantly becomes your long term guy so no trade up or drafting a guy is necessary. If you get a guy like Alex Smith, he's older and more of a bridge, so a trade up could make sense. If McBeane believes in any of those guys he will make the trade up. If we don't trade up, I think it is a clear indication they don't love any of those guys. In the end I think we trade for Smith and trade up for Rosen, Darnold, Allen.

They will meet with everyone and do their homework. they met with all of the quarterbacks last year as well and didn't like the top guys so took a flyer on Peterman late. Based on Beane's comments, if they feel Allen, Darnold, Rosen are top five guys they will move up. I think he feels we have the ammo to do it, but know it's a very steep price. I think they will realize that after those guys, there is no one in this draft worth 21, 22 and will wind up waiting until the fourth round to draft a guy like Mike White as a developmental guy. That's just my opinion. This regime is looking for a franchise altering long term quarterback who can win from the pocket. That is probably Allen, Darnold, Rosen. If they feel like those guys are the real deal they will make a move. Say what you want about Allen, but he gives the team that kind of hope. After that it's just throwing darts at the wall and drafting another Peterman. Maybe you get lucky and draft the next Russell Wilson or Kirk Cousins, but you can't bank on that working. It is much more likely that this team's future franchise quarterback will come out of the top 5 of the draft. Maybe not this year, but at some point.
