You use the word "primary" which could be a bit of a confusing word. 11 personnel is of course the primary but teams vary that quite a bit. Chiefs use 12 32% and use 13 10%. So multiple tight ends pushing half the time. Bills use 12 8% and 13 0%. These are 1st down stats. I don't see the need for the Bills to draft a TE in the 1st round, but they could definitely use on in the 3rd or 4th. https://www.nfeloapp.com/nfl-power-ratings/nfl-team-tendencies/

I would venture to say that Shaq Lawson will probably get signed under the vet salary benefit program after the draft. There always is a chance that a DE on Beane's board is sticking out in the 5th or 6th rounds and that may affect his signing. With Von Miller having a good chance of starting the season on PUP (or is on the team to start the season but not active), I see Shaq as a good possibility of making the team (at least to begin with). If anything, he is a good yardstick for a younger guy to beat out in camp.

Where are you getting your stats that Knox is the #23 TE? Knox had a 74% catch rate on 65 targets with 7 TDs. In today's NFL he should have a minimum number of targets pushing 90. That would put his yards receiving in the 700s. That's around top 5 for the league and his TDs already are top 3. They need only to throw him the ball more.

I'm not a big fan of OBJ and less so after his 2nd ACL. If he does come down to a 1-year deal, it will most likely be for more than Beane would pay. Some team with cash will pay.
-
$15M per year on a long-term deal. If Beane signed him to that I'd make him pee in a cup. OBJ has said he would like to play for a contender and find a place that could serve as “home,” meaning he’d like a long-term deal. The Bills, Giants, Jets and Chiefs are among the teams that could still be interested in the firmer Pro Bowler.

Thanks for the thread @HappyDays You have no idea how much thread like these help me for the draft. I sure hope the Bills can get another Dawson Knox sized TE and Dorsey learns how to maximize their production.

FA Cameron Fleming RT Why don't we go get him?
ColoradoBills replied to PrimeTime101's topic in The Stadium Wall
Exactly. This guy most likely will get signed right after the draft by some team needing depth competition. The positive I see about only Q being signed at an OT spot and no one else gives me hope for the draft. If the board doesn't fall right a couple of these kind of guys will come to camp. It has been true in a lot of instances in the past. If there is no OL taken by Day 2 this year, I will be disappointed. However, I'm not going to write off this year until I see the final OL roster going to camp. It's premature to do that THIS year. -
Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?
ColoradoBills replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think Beane is spending any time thinking about a Hopkins trade anymore. He no doubt listened to Arizona's wants, maybe offered them an idea where his thoughts are, and it sat there. He's concerned now about the draft and what to do immediately after. Unless big changes in Arizona happen, that's where it lies. -
It's a copycat league is it not? Let me put it another way. KC uses it's other TEs almost as much as the Bills use Knox. Last season the Chiefs threw the ball to TEs over 200 times. Bills threw the ball to Knox 65 times. There is plenty of opportunity for the Bills to use their TEs more and "copycatting" some of KC plays is not illogical.

Dawkins is through 2024. My point is next season will be the extension time. Cap is tight again and if they are going to extend him to play LT it will be done next spring. Morse, now that he is playing again just makes next year a prime candidate for a cap casualty. I was looking at G/C this year but after the McGovern/Edwards signing that for sure is being pushed out until next spring. Thus, my point of an OT this draft. If Beane balks on an OT, it means all his faith in on Spencer as the starter and Doyle as the prime LT backup. I think it would be a big risk.

Nice Break Down on Bills Acquisitions By Fins Fan
ColoradoBills replied to newcam2012's topic in The Stadium Wall
Responding to your OP, this guy hits the nail on the head. I agree with almost everything he has to say except the Brown run blocking. It's Spencer's positive, his negative is in pass blocking. I agree with the FA evaluations, and he also is savvy enough to know what I (and a lot of others on this board) think the Bills need to draft in the 1st 3 rounds. His use of the term "fun ball" is correct, and I also believe the more pass/run balance (while keeping passing as #1) comments are spot on. I'll return the thread to the Boston and pro-anti Florida living better suited to a "Better Homes and Gardens" podcast. -
That is nice to hear. As to Dawkins, he no doubt is the LT this season. Whether or not he gets another long extension next year is debatable. I am curious as to what kind of shape he will be in at the start of camp. The thing is, to be pro-active means having options. A decision on Dion is right around the corner along with Morse. If a multi-purpose OL player is available this draft, go and get him.
-
All I want is for Beane and the boys to be pro-active with the OL. It also means everything doesn't have to be done at once. Moves were made in FA for the IOL. The weak points are the OTs. Brown deserves a shot at RT but NEEDS real competition. Dawkins will be in his last year of his contract next season. Doyle is a complete unknown and Q is a JAG. OT (one who competes at RT) is the need right now. Even if Spencer Brown improves and wins the job over a rookie (this season) it keeps the competitive pressure up. IOL future questions all revolve around Morse and the C position. That can be addressed next season. Draft the OT this year and let the competition begin. Let Doyle and Q compete for the last OT spot and do the same for the IOL next draft.

Not sure this is completely correct. KC uses multiple TEs often. Kelce is on the field over 75% of the time and this past season the other 3 TEs had a combined snap count just over 75%. Blake Bell is their current blocking TE (6'6", 260lbs), but was injured for most of the season. They also use Bell for short yard rushing. He had 4 carries for 4 first downs in 2021. One of the reasons Kelce is the player he is, is because he is used so much. Couldn't agree more. Dawson is totally underutilized. He is in his prime and if they don't scheme him more it's a shame. TEs are such an important part of today's modern NFL and it's not rocket science to figure out how to properly use the Bills TEs. Just watch KC's film and design some plays they use for Knox. I'll add that @GunnerBillhas some good posts in this thread. Using Knox more (at least 2-3 targets per game) reduces the need for this star WR2 a lot of fans keep screaming for.

I can't speak for other posters but concerning the bolded I can make an argument that while he does need to improve his game the overall success of the Bills is more dependent on improvements made in the other positions on the offense. That for me, also includes the coaching, playcalling and game specific schemes.
-
Cook looked pretty good to me in his limited roll last season and I feel he can easily perform as good and likely better than Devin in the roll of the 60% snap RB. I think he is more explosive and has a higher ceiling than Singletary had. With Damien Harris as a true compliment with different skills and running style, I'm actually pretty hyped with what the backfield can do this coming year. Sprinkle in some specific plays designed for Hines and I don't see a problem. It's up to Dorsey to dovetail the playcalling to maximize their skills and potential. That's with both the passing and running games.

I got no problem with Hamlin competing for a depth position at Safety.
-
What are you talking about? No one is saying that. I posted a reply about him not being "perfect" and mentioned things he needs to improve. Tom Brady is the GOAT and constantly worked on his game. All that being said, I want Josh Allen as the Bills QB over anyone else.

Contract is in. Lower than the $1.77M "standard". LOL. $1.6M with $1M guaranteed. That's a little higher than I hoped for in the guaranteed department. After looking at what the "no name" OTs are getting signed for, it's pretty much in line though. My hope is that he gets bumped off the final 53 with an OT that Beane can get in the draft. For those who care, current Bills Cap Space sits a $9.2M with Phillips and Rapp's contract still to be added.

Wish they would just sign Klein at lb

Reid has like 24 years and McDermott 6. But the bigger discrepancy, and why fans can't see it is, Reid 24 years, Dorsey 1. Bills had a rookie OC, while Reid probably faced more "3rd and longs" in his tenure than Dorsey's total plays. McDermott is 21st on the all-time coaching Win% list with .639. That .002 behind Reid who is 20th on the list with .641. I wonder if fans know that? https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/
