Terry essentially gave the keys to the kingdom to McDermott and he delivered a playoff berth in his first year as HC. He is prepared to give McDermott all 5 years. I’ll bet you anything he sees the end of the contract

The one thing I can’t believe is the the dramatic, over-the-Top, extreme, comically sad, romanticizing Of Bills fans for the past. Today’s here are some of the legit takes that came from this board: - We never should have fired Doug Whaley - We never should have traded Sammy Watkins - We should have let Tyrod - We never should have let Fitzpatrick walk 6 years ago - I wish we kept Chan Gailey, he knew how to run an offense - Why did we let Robert Woods walk? Its ridiculous! These comments are not contradictory to the sentiments of the past, they are contradictory to sentiments from yeaterday. Go back to 2012, people complained about Fitz and his “noodle arm” and the INT’s late in the game that sealed the loss. People applauded the Bills for trading Sammy for a 2nd after he he proved he wasn’t he game breaker that many were hoping for. And some people applauded the firing of Doug Whaley whose record as GM speaks for itself, though some also defended him as Whaley is the most polarizing figure in Bills history. And its not just this game. Any time something goes wrong for the Bills or anytime a former Bills player or coach achieves a moderate amount of success it’s always “oh I wish we still Mike Gilislee” or “why didn’t we resign Chris Hogan,” or “I wish Doug Whaley was still the GM.” This is my friends of romanticism. Kind of like the old, overweight 50 year dude who sits in his messy studio apartment on Electric Avenue in Lackawanna and pines to back to the days when he was muscular and handsome and dating his beautiful red-haired old high-school sweetheart. “Oh I wish I never dumped Lucy to play the field. She was my one, true love. I never should have broken up with her.” And in case your wondering, no that 50 year old is not me. But this emotional romanticism and looking back at the past through rose-colored glasses needs to stop. It’s as useless and sad as that 50 year-old pining for Lucy (again, not me). Point is grow up and go Bills!

Not at all....I’m saying Benjamin was traded for because the team was making a push for the playoffs. They got there. It wasn’t because of Benjamin but he did help, so you are being over dramatic with your assessment. If Whaley is such a good GM why hasn’t he been hired in two years. Case and point, John Dorsey was fired by KC, and hired months later by Cleveland.

If anything Beane made the right call on Sammy. They saw a WR who was not worth the salary he’d likely command. The Rams passed on him as well. Tyrique Hill is the type of WR Sammy should be. Instead his numbers today were pedestrian as they usually are. Beane received a 2nd pick plus a play in EJ Gaines who helped them make the playoffs for the first time in 17 years. It also enabled them to move on from a CB who didn’t fit their defense and gain more draft capital. Again, Bills fans romanticizing about the past.

Funny because shipping out Sammy and trading for Benjamin happened months apart. One was not related to the other

The way that I see it is like this... out of the names you mentioned the only FA signing you can pin on Beane are Star and maybe Trent Murphy. And the jury is still out on both of those guys. Guys like Bodine, Davis, and McCarron were all low-risk/high reward situations. They were not Day 1 or even Day 2 Free agents. They signed them as reasonable prices. It’s not like they broke the bank. The Bills probably never got the return on Benjamin. Last season it was a mix of injuries and a QB in Tyrod who doesn’t throw WR’s open and is reluctant to throw contested passes. Today’s effort was abysmal. Still on paper the 3rd round pick they gave up seemed reasonable. Oh and they did break that playoff streak, so you. So you can argue the trade was justified.

Post game Bills Beat podcast. Joe and Matt really hammer this team for a dreadful performance. IMO the best part is around 21:00 when Fairburn says that Benjamin was the worst player on the field. He mentions the huge deals the WR’s got in the off-season and how Benjamin looked unmotivated today. He had 1 catch on 7 targets which is not good. He said if Benjamin is the #1 WR, then the Bills don’t have a #1 WR.

I can see them cutting Peterman and signing a veteran but do you honestly think that they'll sign Moore on Tuesday and start him on Sunday? I think Allen starts next week

A trade is moot because you can't get more than a 6th round pick, so what's the point. Murphy did look like the best runner today

He's the perfect game manager. If your team has a good defense and gets a lead, he'll do enough to protect it with conservative play. If your team is down by more than a TD, you are pretty much screwed. Look at Tyrod's record when he's trailed teams down by 4 points or less. It's really bad. I think he's one maybe 1 or 2 of those games. I say this as someone who like Tyrod. He's not just going to help you win from behind

He's not really flourishing. He's part of a DL rotation. It's not like he's an All-Pro. great hyperbole though

...And they won't. The Pegula's understand this. When they hired McDermott they signed him to a 5 year (as opposed to a 3 year deal) because they were committed to the patience required to carry out his plan. They more than likely axed Whaley and hired his friend as GM to appease McDermott. I doubt they pull the cord on either so soon

The difference is both of those teams fired their defensive head coach and replaced him with a young, offensive minded coach with a strong resume of innovate play calling. Not going to happen in Buffalo

Even at 0-16 Beane is coming back. People who make statement like that, have no idea how much power McDermott and Beane yield. I have a feeling that internally they were bracing for a bad year.

Explain why? I disagree....If anyone is going to get a 2nd chance, it's Beane. Remember that Beane/McDermott wields a lot of power at One Bills Drive. They ended the drought and will be given the right for a second chance. I think that the Bills could have two bad seasons (4-12 or worse) and they'd still get a 3rd year. That's how much Terry loves them

It's a joke. But I do feel that Bills fans will romanticize about former players/coaches/GM's. I didn't think Whaley was very good as GM but many fans still pine for him. It's no surprise he's been out of the league for the 2 years since he got the axe.
