LOL over 7,000 view on this thread. if I did have an affiliate link for click throughs, I might be able to buy a beer at New Era! No, I really just think people need to hear the interview. Like I said, I learned a lot about Sully. I’m just saying Sully touched on the majority of the things people are complaining about. If they actually listen, they would probably learn something. Many people have objected for pretty childish reasons - “I don’t like Sully and I don’t care about him...so I’m not gonna listen.” Yet they still write long comments about Sully here. To their own I guess Well that’s more of a beat writer or an enterprise journalist than a columnist. I think Sully was just being honest about his thoughts on the Bills. The same way many of us do here as well

This is a fair comment and I appreciate your honest reasonse. Pertaning to Jerry doing his job “well,” I guess you can say it’s as subjective as everyone else here who felt he didn’t do his job well. I will say this, he worked for the Buffalo News for 30 years and usually you don’t last that long in the media industry without be good - or at least competent at your job. Your criticism on Sully was fair as well. I get how his style comes off as pessimistic and abrasive, yet you do seem to appreciate how he did try to hold those who felt were responsible for the failure accountable. Many feel that is, perhaps, the most important part of any journalist. Still I think Jerry could have done things a little differently. I’d agree that many times he’d call the Bills out without offering suggestions. For what it’s worth, he did admit to taking “extremist” views, as all columnist do which might have been why it seems liked he was so brutal to fans.

Darby trade already one of the worst in Bills history
BuffaloRush replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It hardly was a robbery. Darby is not a Pro Bowl player nor is he one of the top CB’s in the league. He is a very competent CB2. What value would you place on a competent CB? I’d say a 3rd round pick is very much fair. Plus we got Jordan Matthew in the trade. On paper, it was a great move. In actuality injuries ended Matthews’ career. -
Again though, to me it’s no surprise that the analysts who criticize the Bills are among the most hated by the fan base. This is true for: - Jerry Sullivan - Mike Rodak - Mike Schopp - Jeremy White - Bucky Gleason Sully has handeled criticism well over the years. If anyone is oversensitive to criticism, it’s the Bills fans - not Sully

No he’s on 9-12, so it’s more like competition to the last hour of Howard and Jeremy and The Instigators. Ha! No I guess the Maven is kind of like The Athletic. The only difference is it’s ad-supported and no subscription based. They have local reporters adding content to subsites. It was just launched in june so still very new

Wow so many replies! Never meant to piss anyone off. I just listened to this interview and heard a lot of passion from Sully for his profession and for the Bills. You don’t have to agree but I’m pretty sure that if you listen to this interview, you won’t be disappointed The way that I read the comments made it sounds like he made the decision strictly based on the feedback here. I knew that wasn’t the case. As you said, Sully mentioned the readers survey

Yeah I get that. I don’t doubt they thought Sully was “bad for business.” I’m just saying where’s the proof that proves their vision to be correct. It is my opinion though that some fans hold Sully’s criticism against him. As a fan who was often frustration with the lack of direction with the Bills over the past 20 years or so, I was appreciate that Sully expressed criticism rather than biting his tounge. I do see how he could be perceived in a negative light, but again I think many fans internalized his comments and took what he said about the team personally. I found that to a little silly as well. I appreciate the nice words. I do like to come here and have fun bantering with others. I suppose it sometimes comes off the wrong way. Thanks for the reminder.

Nope, I think there’s an aversion because people want to read positive things about their favorite football team. They want to feel good about their favorite team. The problem is, there really weren’t many positives during the drought. Sully constantly called out the Bills for many very bad decisions that they made. He called them embarassing and yes it was embarrassing. Anyone in the Buffalo media who calls out the team is disliked among the Bills fan base. This includes Sully, Mike Schoop, Jeremy White and Mike Rodak. How many times to fans in this forum attack a writer who writes something negative about the team? It happens all the time. People who tread lightly on criticism but that are mostly positive say...a Sal Carpaccio are received very well. Yes Sully was very critical of the team and I think that many Bills fans internalized his comments. It used to piss me off to hear reporters loft softball questions to coaches or players. Or when a good question was aske, they’d give a BS answer and the reporter wouldn’t follow up. Sully did neither and for that I appreciate his style. I do agree that he came off as a curmudgeon or prickly. Maybe even as a jerk, but again, I recognized what his role was as a columnist and never held it against him
