  1. Well, a loss to Denver with Dallas, New England and Baltimore coming up on the schedule would be devastating if not quite fatal to Buffalo's playoff hopes.
  2. This supports the assertion that Chris Brown made that Allen is starting to make progress in his post snap reads. He already does well in his pre snap reads.
  3. As per the official Broncos website, Ron Leary - RG is also listed as questionable. All four of the questionable offensive linemen are starters on the team site's depth chart. The fifth, Garrett Bolles isn't very good. Could make for an interesting afternoon. Heuerman is their starting TE (though Fant plays a lot) and Tim Patrick is one of their starting WRs. https://www.denverbroncos.com/team/injury-report/
  4. Patriots versus anybody - you root for anybody. That said, if you're betting, you have to bet on the Patriots.
  5. I think it is difficult to compare Josh Allen to an established QB. With an established QB, you know pretty much what to expect. Because of Allen's youth, he's kind of a moving target. The general trend is toward improvement, but it's not a straight line, so you really can't be certain what you're going to get in a given week.
  6. If he were playing for the Jets, Gase would have fined and suspended him. LOL
  7. I always thought the notion of Daboll reading defenses for Josh Allen is patently ridiculous. There isn't enough time on the play clock to give Allen the play, interpret the defense for him and let Allen call out the cadence for the offense.
  8. I think the perception of Greg Roman has always been that he is an unconventional OC with a novel offensive scheme. I think that perception hits the mark. His philosophy is to force defenses to load the box with a wide variety of running plays. That creates openings for more deep passing plays to be successful. A running QB who can make deep throws is ideal. It gives the offense one more run option, and an especially dangerous one at that, because it is out of the norm for the NFL. That's why Lamar Jackson is such a great fit. He's similar to Tyrod Taylor, but MUCH better. The question is, can Roman make his offense fly using a QB with a more conventional skill set? It's a question any team considering him as a head coach would need to consider, because Lamar Jackson is just about unique, and there are a lot more conventional QBs out there. A team with Greg Roman as head coach might have to endure a long period of mediocrity before the right QB comes along again.
  9. Great article. It is powerful motivation to be optimistic about the Bills over the next decade plus.
  10. He'd like them if they changed their name to Cowgirls.
  11. I thought last Sunday Josh did a better job making post snap reads and adjusting to pressure. Yes, it was Miami, but it was also an improvement over Buffalo's first game with Miami this season. Daboll will be sure to game plan for the pressure Denver will bring. I expect a tough game, but I think Buffalo has the resources to pull off a win. Weather wise - it's still looking like cool, but not freezing, and breezy, but precipitation free during the game. So, weather should not be a huge factor.
  12. Could the Steelers, including Tomlin and Rudolph pursued a different course of action that would not have resulted in Garrett's assault. Yeah, sure, but every situation is unique and Garrett still bears responsibility for his violent act.
  13. I don't mind the running. He just needs to be smart about it. If he's made the first down, slide when there's a risk of taking a big hit, or go out of bounds.
  14. I try not to worry too much about past decisions. In the case of Lamar Jackson, there were reasons why he was not considered among the top 4 QBs in the 2018 draft. While there is a lot of science that goes into evaluating draft prospects, it is an inexact science at best. I've said elsewhere I think Jackson has the perfect OC in Greg Roman for his skill set, and Roman has the perfect QB in Lamar Jackson for his offensive scheme. Whether or not Lamar Jackson has any real scheme versatility is unknown, but I couldn't blame a GM for doubting it. He still doesn't have great mechanics throwing the ball. It's also unknown whether a different OC would be able to adapt his pet offensive scheme to Lamar Jackson. Greg Roman doesn't have to change his scheme. It fits right out of his mind. The other question is about the future. One reason Baltimore has been so successful is that Greg Roman's offensive scheme is one of a kind. Most of the teams that play Baltimore are playing against it for the first time. Over time, if Baltimore continues to enjoy such spectacular success, defensive coordinators are going to have to devote some serious study and get creative to try and contain it. Eventually, somebody will figure it out. Jackson's success will have to come solely from his ability and the ability of his supporting cast. The novelty of the scheme will cease to be an advantage.
  15. He actually sounds kind of interesting. He was a college defensive end, but I don't think there's been a defensive end that tall who's had a successful NFL career wince Ed "Too Tall" Jones for Dallas back in the day. It takes a while to successfully change positions like that, but he's had a few years now to gain some skill at his new position. I'm sure he's not a any kind of potential starter, but his college background suggests at least some athleticism. He needed to add good weight and get a lot stronger, but maybe there's something there, and at 27 he's not too old to still have some upside.
  16. He looks pretty good. I can't see wanting to play again though. I'm sure he could have a cushy job in broadcasting if he wants it.
  17. I think Milano has had a few games where he wan't his usual brilliant self, especially versus the run.. If that constitutes struggling, I can understand the statement. He was really good on Sunday.
  18. I'm sure you're right, Yolo.
  19. Sam Young is not an upgrade from Cody Ford.
  20. Are there any tackles out there named Volvo? If there is, it's a given he's built like a tank.
  21. I think the league should give each team one renewable challenge per half. If you're right, you keep getting one more every time you're right. If you're wrong, you're done.
  22. Apparently, he doesn't trace his roots back to Walton's Mountain.
  23. Well, we know every QB gets play calls via their helmet radios. I think what McVay does that's different is to audible through the helmet radio. It doesn't make sense to try and interpret the defense to a QB with the helmet radio. I think that gets too complicated to do in the time available in addition to making the play call. I go back to something Chris Brown said recently, that Josh is getting very good at pre-snap reads. What he finds challenging is making post snap reads and making adjustments post snap. Lots of NFL defenses now (including Buffalo's) show one thing pre-snap, then quickly shift to doing something different post snap in order to confuse QBs. That's very difficult for QBs to deal with, and Josh, having come into the league so raw is especially vulnerable. He's learning, but his post snap reads are behind his pre-snap reading ability.
  24. Josh Allen did say that he's more comfortable with no huddle. I think it was a post game comment to Sal Cappacio that I heard. Allen also thought that might be the direction the offense is moving toward. That in itself doesn't necessarily mean Buffalo will abandon a heavy personnel package. What it does mean is that there would not be much play by play substitution. What you see is what you'll get personnel wise. Overall, I think the 11 personnel package (3 WRs, 1 TE, 1RB) is probably more versatile than a heavy package. Buffalo also used Kroft and Knox together some on Sunday - not so much Smith and Knox.
  25. Brady has clearly lost a lot physically, but the team is still able to win because they have enough talent everywhere else, and they tend to make fewer critical mistakes than their opponent. And, yes, they seem to get away with some holds and other calls from time to time. Brady is not going to get any better going forward.
