PFF Grades for Every 2017 2nd Round Pick
TigerJ replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I doubt this rating takes into account the fact that Zay Jones played with a torn labrum the whole season. It's impossible to quantify the effect that had on his ability to catch the ball. I'm assuming he'll be with Buffalo next season. It will be very interesting to see how a healthy Zay Jones performs, especially if he has a QB who can get him the ball. -
I don't know enough to choose. I think both have things they need to learn to be an effective NFL QB, but I think both have the capacity to learn. They are very different though. I imagine Brian Daboll will have considerable input if the decision comes down to those two players when Buffalo is on the clock. In an article on the Bills website, Phil Savage, color commentator for Alabama football, is quoted as saying he thinks Daboll would gravitate toward a pure passer versus a multi-threat QB, so we'll see.

Hera and I thought with his regimen of New Age self care and diet he was invulnerable.

Happy trails to Todd Haley, officially out in Pittsburgh

I'm not a fan of Haley. I don't think he's very creative. -
Is having a franchise quality QB essential for
TigerJ replied to KingRex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, but a franchise caliber QB gives you much better odds. -
Why doesn't the NFL change Defensive PI to 15 yards?
TigerJ replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are times when PI as a spot foul seems to be incredible overkill, but there are other times where a DB, who is beaten on a sure touchdown pass, could just go ahead and tackle the receiver with the ball in the air. From a defensive standpoint, that is a bargain price to have to pay on a 50 yard pass play. -
What I get from the article on Erhardt-Perkins is that it doesn't dictate reliance on either the running game or the passing game dominance. In essence, it provides a framework for organizing and communicating plays, which are mostly the same plays in the other two systems (Coryell and West Coast). As a framework, Grantland maintains it has an advantage in that is simplifies understanding and communication, and is thus easier for QBs to master. So depending on the personnel Daboll is working with, he could in theory have a run heavy offense or a pass happy offense, or anything in between.

Why? He's a great linebacker and a perfect fit for Sean McDermott's defense.

Dan Lavoie, resident draftnik at Buffalo Rumblings has just done an article on what it might cost the Bills to move up into position to take one of the top QBs. https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2018/1/16/16892834/buffalo-bills-trade-up-2018-nfl-draft-pick-dave-gettleman-kansas-city-chiefs-quarterback-value-chart He uses the 20 draft pick value chart that most would say is obsolete, yet there really is no other guideline available. He acknowledges this, but it at least provides a guideline/starting point for thinking about a trade. In essence, Buffalo's two first round picks could get them to 7th overall, trading with Tampa Bay. Adding their own second round pick takes them to 4th overall. Adding their second second round pick takes them to 3rd overall. Getting to the Giants' 2nd overall pick would require all of the above plus the Bills first round pick in 2019 or possibly Cordy Glenn. Of course, Buffalo isn't going to make a decision any time soon. They will also be looking in free agency. What they do in free agency will have a strong effect on draft strategy. I thought this would help those who advocate trading to assess the practicality of getting to certain levels in round 1.

The problem with a prospect like Josh Allen in the top of the first round is teams there typically need a QB, and can't afford to draft a player in the first round only to have him sit for a couple years. A QB like Allen is really a better fit for a team like New Orleans or (cough, cough) New England Patriots, but those teams will never get a crack at him. Thank goodness in the case of the Patriots.

How about tight end. It would be like having LeBron James as tight end. It would take him some major adjustment but he' would have an unbeatable catch radius!

What's the price to move up and get our guy?
TigerJ replied to ProcessTheTrust's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Michael Vick never got the hang of reading defenses. On passing plays, if his primary receiver was covered, he couldn't go through his progressions, so he took off and ran. I think Lamar Jackson may have the ability to read defenses a little better than Vick, so I think his ceiling passing the ball may be higher. I wouldn't want him if it wasn't -

If you want to include Tyrod in a trade, the other team my say, "I'ttle cost you another second if you want us to take Tyrod off your hands. -
If it’s my pick here is the Bills next QB
TigerJ replied to bills in oregon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The OP didn't say he'd take Ferguson in the first. -
He's coming home. Sometimes people like to come back to their roots. McDermott has the respect of a lot of people, and maybe there is actually a perception out there that he's building a winner here. It is an opportunity it get in on the ground floor. New England has been at the top of the AFC East for a long time, but there are signs the dynasty may be ready to crumble, leaving a vacuum for the team that is ready to fill it. It's not outrageous to think Buffalo could be that team.

I took the advice of Hapless and looked up Grantland's Erhardt-Perkins article. It was very informative. Here is the link for anyone who is interested. http://grantland.com/features/how-terminology-erhardt-perkins-system-helped-maintain-dominance-tom-brady-patriots/

The Bills are in so much better shape now than a year ago, it's like we have moved into an alternate universe - seriously. We made the playoffs with a first year first time head coach. A year ago, we weren't sure what it would look like but had to figure we would have a brand new offensive and defensive scheme. We had a terrible salary cap situation. On to of that we had a 17 year playoff drought and pundits suggesting Buffalo would win maybe 4 games. Now we have a head coach with a year under his belt. We'll be keeping the same defensive scheme, and will presumably be better at it. We ditched the OC who was not sufficiently effective. We have a bunch of high draft picks. The only thing that has not improved is the uncertainty at QB. We're a little more sure the future doesn't include Tyrod, but we don't know much more about it. By the way, welcome Bigstu. I won't say a thing about your command of the English language.

It would be interesting to speculate why Daboll instead of Chudzinski. If I were to guess, I would guess that it is because of Daboll's relative youth. He follows the pattern set a year ago of hiring relatively young guess who also have a lot of coaching experience. Chudzinski's been around quite a while. He's not ancient by any means (as in my age) but Dabol is several years younger. Daboll was only at Alabama one season. I think a lot of his play calling at Bama was dictated by the fact his QB was Jalen Hurts. He's had a couple stints as OC before, but I don't know how successful he was. Before taking the Alabama job, he sent several years on New England's staff, coaching tight ends (Gronkowski). He's also coached WRs. I don't think there is any reason to think he's going to be shy about putting the ball in the air if he's got a QB who can do it.

I'll be first to ask: Would you fire Mike Tomlin?
TigerJ replied to Ennjay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, he has too much positive capital to dump for a few stupid coaching decisions. -
Here is what I know about Bill's Insiders...

I would have thought you'd love the idea of making him feel impotent. If he has a sense of humor, he might change his name again, this time to E D Ed. -

Dunkirk Don claimed his source was an employee who was disgruntled over some employment issues. If he's telling the truth, that hardly sounds like a Pegula kid. If there is other inside information, I haven't heard what it is. I'm all ears. -
channel 2- Buffalo comments re alleged Incognito...
TigerJ replied to KingRex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His linemates said they heard no racial slurs. What's his name's teammates in Jacksonville said they heard nothing. I think one of two things needs to happen before this can be resolved one way or another. Someone needs to corroborate the charge, or Incognito needs to admit that he did it. If he says he didn't say anything, a lot of people would disbelieve him anyway. Unless he admitted it to his bosses on the Bills, I don't know that they could say anything. I think they are right not to comment unless they know the facts. -
