  1. Not sure what you're chasing here, but whatever. The term "reading comprehension" is a fun one to see thrown about. Grazie mille.
  2. Didn't realize I had an M.O. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I simply do not agree that taking a knee dishonors anything. That has been my point. I see people looking for the offense in an action that I interpret to be solemn and respectful. You're free to interpret it differently, of course. And I'm then free to respond, and maybe even throw out the highly inflammatory pejorative name, "ostrich." Some simply don't wish to be bothered with certain causes while enjoying their collision sports, i.e., the whole head in the sand thing (which is a flawed metaphor on many levels).
  3. I appreciate what you're saying here. But taking a knee is considered deferential and reverent enough for religious ceremonies, for wedding proposals, for being knighted for eff's sake...it's about as respectful as a person can be. As a country we cannot continue to see ourselves as the morally superior force that saved the planet from fascism during WW2. Our military is now strictly volunteer and not always on the right side of history. Bless all those who choose to serve, but it's not a thing to blindly revere any longer. Times change. Again, I hope the Pegulas allow for some nuance.
  4. But Sammy isn't "big," which is literally what the author means here. Size AND weight of expectations...
  5. Believe in what, though? The sanctity of a song? Of a financial relationship between the NFL and the armed forces?
  6. I don't agree that players taking a solemn knee during the national anthem (an effing 200 year-old song about war, by the way) is injurious to anyone. They are attempting to call attention to citizens who are truly being injured. That's not a controversial position. How can anyone be disrespected by that? I'm probably getting too far afield. I hope the Pegulas let their players handle this however they (the players) see fit (in consultation with the Pegulas, who appear to be interested in respecting the players' autonomy and dignity).
  7. Colin K has done a LOT to affect social change. So many people enjoy (not you, necessarily) dumping on a guy who has actually handled himself with dignity and civic responsibility.
  8. Congratulations. Ostriches everywhere are proud of your capacity to keep social justice separate from violent sports entertainment. This country provides certain populations with considerable privilege.
  9. There's recent precedent for spending on WRs in year two of an offensive overhaul/QB development (think SB champs)... Not sure which receivers might be available next off-season. But it's a thought
  10. In the quoted text, I guess so.
  11. So the politics forum is just a place for seemingly intelligent people to belligerently portray binary extremes (albeit often veiled in humor and/or ironic hyperbole) of the ongoing American culture war, which is fundamentally (although the socio-political distractions du jour appear to be novel/sincere to the public-at-large) unchanged since the 70s? Left and right are purely cultural terms now, huh? Economic, domestic, and foreign policy platforms are no longer rooted in principled, measured, and analyzed positions?
  12. I prefer the moniker, Richard Noggin.
  13. You're not exactly blessed with brilliance, eh? Sorry. That's redundant.
  14. I've been wondering about the upside of granting him his release, from the team's perspective. Your suggestion is interesting: maintain honorable relations with player agents for the sake of future operations. Makes some sense.
  15. I approve of this discussion.
  16. The initial infraction is mostly meh in my book. A public figure with his own human faults and frailties is not above ridicule, however callous the offense, or vulnerable the target. But a mea culpa shows integrity, nonetheless. It's all good, or none of it matters anyway, or whatever.
  17. Sounds like a plan. Or, consider my counter-offer: let's have ONE massive, sprawling thread that spans double-digit pages and swallows all shades and nuances into one unified behemoth. There can be no middle ground in this life!
  18. Agreed. He has a big "tackle radius." (Which isn't a thing, but should be.) I HAVE heard his style of tackling used as a criticism, however. Maybe on draft night? He's a grabber, someone said, rather than a hitter.
  19. All right, everyone. Shut 'er down. Enough with all this discussion nonsense...
  20. You're thoughtful.
