  1. I continue to maintain that NO ONE can get to 1, 2 or 3 now. The teams that are there are using the picks they have on QB. The jockeying will be for the 4th QB and the action will be around pick 9. Mayfield will be a Jet. Darnold to Browns. Rosen to Giants. I think the Bills (make a mistake) and go up to 9 for Allen. I think the Patriots go up to 14 for Rudolph. Arizona gets left in the dust in round 1. Chargers go Lamar Jackson....I had been thinking Saints, but the Chargers need rivers replacement. Jackson can sit....he will generate buzz for a team that needs to have buzz to sell some tickets to the new stadium.
  2. Maryland Bills Fan......Stan Humphries led the San Diego Chargers to a Super Bowl once. .....There is a list of OK QB's who were on a team that had ONE magical season where all the free agent signings worked out, where the drafts had been good for two or three years in a row, and the ball bounced the right way a few times, and they made the super bowl. There is an incredibly long list of guys like Matt Cassel who mustered all the skill and talent that was in them and barely led a team to the playoffs a few times...and were never close and were never going to be close. You are completely missing the point of the concept of the "franchise QB." If you attempt to assemble a great roster, as you propose, without the "Franchise" QB in place, you MIGHT have a few years of really good drafts, you sign free agents that work out, and then MAYBE....if it all comes together ONCE, you might maybe win a super bowl. Teams without a great QB have gone down this road many times. It isn't impossible..it just isn't likely that ALL of those things come together all at the same time, and if it happens....it only happens ONCE if at all. Not likely to begin with...and it's a one shot thing if it happens. (once every 10-15 years) When you have the "Franchise QB" in place, you may have a bad season due to injuries, or tough luck, etc...but EVERY YEAR, you are a threat to win and compete. With the QB in place your other players will perform better because the man with the ball is making better choices...He can throw a target open as oposed to having to rely on the target to become wide open before throwing. .more catches, better audibles, more TOP, more points...this translates to the D...less time on the field...playing with a lead more often...and when you have "holes" on the roster, they aren't as big a deal because as long as you have the QB, you are competing for TITLES.
  3. Browns. Drafting a QB. Giants. They have Eli Manning. He is old and been in decline. They may well draft a QB. They have the 2nd pick because Manning isn't very good now, and he can't carry that roster. Jets. Have come to their senses and are going up to 3 for a QB. Texans. ??? They didn't have Watson most of the year. He was a rookie. They lost a lot of games. .....you don't have a point here. Broncos don't have a "committee of 3" They have ONE guy who is paid like a starter. Has been named the starter...and is going to be the starter. Undisputed. On a team who have coaches that have publicly been given THIS YEAR. They are pick high because LAST YEAR, they had Trevor Simien. He isn't very good. They signed Keenum hoping that he is an improvement....again....if your question is to ask why these teams are up high....the answer is going to keep coming back to 1. They have no QB, or 2. The record is bad because the QB they do have was hurt or wasn't on the team last year....but let's keep going.... COLTS....Luck didn't play....it should be obvious what this guy means to that team. He was out all last year and they got to play all year wtih Jacoby Brissett..... Bucs. They have Winston. He had a bad year...played hurt...and even when healthy...not 100 percent certain he is the man, but they aren't ready to call him a bust yet...he has shown enough to continue. .... Bears...Dude...they drafted Trubisky at 2 last year...he was a rookie...I'm not that impressed with him, but I will even admit his WR corps was bad. If he is just a guy, then this is what happens..you have a bad record and you draft high... 49ers. Couldn't win without Garropolo. couldn't lose with him. I am tottally not getting your point. Oakland. Carr...is their guy. He had a bad year...he has had a good year. Bad year, bad record. new coach etc.... Fish. Tannehill...again...out all of last season.... Translation. EVERY SINGLE TEAM on your list got BAD QB PLAY last year...some had rookies, some had old dudes...some had their guy miss part of or all of the year. the lesson here is a simple one. BAD QB = HARD TO WIN. HARD TO COMPETE. GOOD QB = COMPETE EVERY YEAR. THIS is it. You get the QB when you can. You keep trying until you find him. Chances are you will find him at the top of a draft, but you may find him in another round, in free agency, undrafted. etc. The odds are much lower he will be found there, but the point is, until you have one, you need one, and if you need one, you do what you can to get one. Draft, trade up, whatever it takes.
  4. You have had Matt Cassel as your QB for the past 17 years..but you don't realize it.
  5. This thread is basically what I joined this place for.....this exact same thread exists on KC boards everywhere for the last 2 decades. So many fans always arguing we had "holes to fill" ....You all probably recall that KC was in the playoffs all the damn time from 1990 to about 2006. All we ever did was fill holes. And our organization was actually good at that. Many good drafts and free agent finds to fill out rosters. A long long line of great RB's in that time. Some super offensive lines. Pro Bowl pass rushers, and defensive backs...and always making playoffs......and always losing in the playoffs. Lost to Marino twice. Manning twice. Elway, Roethlisberger twice, JIM KELLY, Luck, Brady......I am not that smart, but it doesn't seem like a coincidence that Elvis Grbac, and Chaz Bono....Damon Huard, Matt Cassel etc would find themselves on the losing team in playoff games vs THOSE GUYS. When you try and make the argument that you can win without a QB, it is worthwhile to look at the teams that pulled it off. The 2000 Ravens being an example...had great drafts for 3 years or so in a row (very hard to do and very unlikely) and added some great free agent pieces to that team (Shannon Sharpe, Rod Woodson) ...and got game manager play out of Dilfer....AND everything fell just right for ONE SEASON. If you want to use all your draft picks to fill holes and try and duplicate the 2000 ravens..knock yourselves out. Kansas City tried it for decades that way, and even when you are reasonably successful at roster building...you have NOTHING wihtout a QB...you have a lottery ticket hoping that ONE season you were the ultimate roster building badass and everything comes together ONE time for that trophy. GOOD LUCK! Expanding on my point. KC went 13-3 with Steve Bono, they switched out to Elvis Grbac and went 13-3 a couple seasons later. They switched out to Trent Green and went 13-3 again a couple more seasons later. That was all sandwiched in between a bunch of 11-5, 10-6, 12-4 ETC. You give me a roster with the best 52 NON QB in football and I can go 13-3 several times. You give me Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady...an in his prime Jim Kelly...and I will find 52 football players to fill out my roster and win championships.
  6. Mostly to do with the 5 in top 15, and the possibility that there could be 7 taken in round one if someone gets desparate that misses out. I probably over did it a little with the title.
  7. I live in Ft. Worth, Texas and they are doing a lottery down here for tickets....but that isn't how I got mine. I am a Chiefs season ticket holder and I won two ticket to the Chiefs draft party down here, and attend day 1 of the draft through them.
  8. The 2018 Draft is going to be the draft that surpasses the famed QB class of 1983. 5 QB in the top 15 picks. More and more front offices have come to the realization that QB is more important now than it's ever been. ***YES, you can win a super bowl with a mediocre game manager, but your window is ONE season in wich you hit on a ton of your draft picks, your FA signings pan out better than expected and everything falls your way for ONE SEASON*** With so many teams in need, combined with an anticipated GARBAGE QB class in 2019, we are looking at 6 or maybe 7 possibly going in round 1. It is crazy. I continue to maintain the following as I have now for the past couple months: 1. Cleveland. Darnold. I simply refuse to blieve they are taking Jeff Allen at 1. The games I have seen suggest the kid is not accurate enough. They may see him as another Big Ben, but Ben completed 63% as a freshman, and 69% as a junior, his final season at Miami of O. HE was accurate to begin with and got better while he was there....this simply isn't Josh Allen....I would run away as fast as I could from that guy...I think Clevelands brain trust understands Darnold is the superior prospect despite Allens impressive workouts. 2. NY Giants. Rosen. ....So, the Bills, Patriots, Broncos, Jets, etc...are expected to offer a bounty for the 2nd pick to take the QB here. If the Giants had the 12th and 22nd picks.....and having Eli on his last legs....would they not want to offer that to two in order to get Rosen? I can't stress enough....2019 class is garbage. Eli is just about done. They can't possibly know where they would pick next year in a bad year for QBs...and by then they are really going to NEED one. The MOST VALUE they can attain from the no.2 pick is to use it themselves, ensuring their future with Rosen. Also....the Saquon Barkley talk is rediculous....if nothing else, this is a DEEP RB draft.....a very good one will be there later if that is what they think they need. Consider also, just having more picks doesn't mean you get day one contributors or stars.....Rosen is the pick here...not a trade out. 3. NY Jets. Mayfield. The GM and Coach need to WIN NOW with the new QB playing early and often. Their jobs depend on this.. Mayfield....can't stress it enough. improved every year. High completion pct. TONS AND TONS AND TONS of college reps. Ready to go right now...he is flamboyant..he is a name....they went to 3 for Mayfield. 4. Cleveland gets the first NON QB player of their choice. It won't be Barkley. 5. Denver. They want the guard from Notre Dame....might consider a trade down, but need a partner that won't take them off of that guard. is the 4th QB in this draft worth coming up to 5 for? Denver is NOT taking a QB here. The coaches have publicly been given THIS YEAR. The team kept the WR duo, and most of the d remains in tact. The line is awful. The guard starts today. They signed Keenan to starter money to START. they are trying to win while the window is open, and the coaching staff in place is NOT the group who will be around for their next high draft pick at QB. They aren't going to develop a guy if drafted at 5. This staff lives or dies with Keenum now. 6. Colts. Great place for a top 3 NON QB. I say Chubb is the pick. 7. Tampa. Saquon Barkley. They have some other really nice offensive pieces...this is the missing piece for this team. 8. Bears. Offense is set. They have holes to fill, and pass rusher is a huge need. They dont' trade out and take Marcus Davenport UTSA. 9. 49ers.....here is where it's at for the Bills, Pats, Chargers, Cardinals.....maybe even Steelers. SF will be willing to accumulate some picks here to move out. Who wants Allen? Rudolph? Jackson? The problem with this draft and these circumstances is that Buffalo has to get someone....(YES, they HAVE TO!) The problem is, no one at the top 3 is going to budge, and then you are going to be considering an expensive trade to 9 or so, for the FOURTH QB of this draft....and if the Bills don't make it, someone will. This is as good as it's going to get Bills fans.....you move up to 9 and it's for.....ALLEN. The fun isn't over....because picks 10-14 then become teams that don't need QB...and Arizona, the Chargers and the Patriots ...and maybe Steelers will be looking at Rudolph. ....I had predicted in past posts this would be the Chargers moving up ahead of the Cards for Rudolph...but now I think the Pats go up to any of 10-14 to take Rudolph. Arizona PASSES on Jackson...and he goes tumbling down to the Saints. Who stand pat and take him. That leaves a final tally of Cleveland - Darnold Giants - Rosen Jets - Mayfield Bills - Allen Patriots - Rudolph Saints - Jackson ....and now would be a great time to troll and remind you all, Mahomes (and Watson) were just sitting there at pick 10 last year. Ask yourself, would you trade Tre White and the 22nd Pick for Watson or Mahomes now? .....or you might ask it another way....would you trade Mahomes or Watson for the 12th and 24th picks in this draft? ....or another way to look at it...would you trade Mahomes or Watson for ANY of the QB in this draft?
  9. I have tickets to attend day 1 in person. Chiefs don't have a day 1 pick (as of now at least) but I can't wait to see how this whole thing goes down...should be alot of manuevering day 1 for QB etc....can't wait to see it live.
  10. The Rams need to sell PSL's and season tickets for their new fancy stadium. They need to WIN NOW to generate maximum interest. They do not care about the hole they dig 3 years from now. Full disclosure. I am a Chiefs fan....and I am not completely sure that signing Sammy Watkins for 16 mil per was a good use of funds...but having looked over the film from last season in LA......frankly, McVay did a GREAT job of scheming folks open to help out Goff. The more I watch the film. the worse Goff looked. He either can't or hasn't developed enough (probalby can't) throw a good NFL deep pass. If they use Cooks the same way the tried to use Watson, I don't think Cooks is going to look very good there. Shorter routes are what Goff did well last year executing the offense. ......They didn't "Dump" Garrapolo. His contract was about to expire. The patriots were not going to franchise tag him. Their options were to let him go and get a 3rd round compensatory pick. trade him for something better than that, or try and sign him long term...wich he was surely not going to do there as he understood his market. I would agree the Pats could have gotten more than a 2 for him, but they weren't going to keep him unless Brady retired.
  11. .....not too late to jump on the Mahomes bandwagon. He could have been a Bill, but that doesn't mean you can't still be a fan...
  12. I think strong IQ tests (not the ones you do and share on facebook) are very good at predicting life outcomes and determining all sorts of things...No need to go into all that here....been looking at the Wonderlic....and quite simply, there just isn't a correlation there between a wonderlic score and predicting that a QB will or won't be good. I happen to not like Jackson much as a QB prospect, but that was before I even knew his score, and this score changes nothing about my opinion of him as a prospect. I agree that a QB needs brain power that allows quick read of progression and good understanding of a playbook...but this test I don't think, is a good indicator of a persons brains abilty to process these things....If I were a team....I would probably get alot more out of having a guy sit down and evaluate film and plays....kind of like Grudens QB camp show.
  13. He won't care after that..he has a new stadium that he needs to sell out....LA Loves a winner.
  14. Umm... did you happen to notice those Colts “teams” made the playoffs with Peyton Manning, they lose him, and the “team” finished with the worst record in football. They draft Luck, and they are are a playoff team again. Luck gets hurt and they end up with the third pick in the draft. I am not very smart but I think this is what is referred to as a pattern.
  15. This should have been obvious to everyone the minute Keenum signed his contract....don't need the Denver Post to tell you this.... Healthy Andrew Luck has done VERY WELL without a team around him..he makes them all better. That's what a franchise QB does.
  16. No. I think the first 3 will all be QB...then the high end NON QB will go....about pick 9 or so, that's where the action is because those teams don't need QB and they will consider more picks in this deep draft more beneficial than drafting someone at 9, 10, 11, etc....So the Bills, Cards....and maybe Chargers will be looking at what's left in the QB market trying to decide if they need to get in front of each other....so for example...Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield go 1-2-3....(in my estmation) ...Josh Allen, Mason Rudolph and Jackson still on the board...You can't tell me the Bills are cool with McCaron, and the Cards are set with Bradford and Glennon....if ONE of the Bills or Cards...or Chargers...maybe even Pittsburg....takes a liking to one of them..9, 10, 11, all ripe for the picking. I do think the Bills go to 9 to fend off the cards for ALLEN...and the Chargers and Cards manuever for Rudolph...around pick 14,15. So...5 in top 15.
  17. It is amazing to me how BLIND some of you want to be to what is happening here. The COLTS took the Jets offer, not because Buffalo could pay MORE but because the Colts only had to move to 6. There are some players way up there that INDY really likes that won't be there at 12. The Colts get the extra picks in a deep draft, and still get at top 3 NON QB. They didn't WANT the Bills package! .....and the other thing that is funny is that everyone just assumes that the 2nd pick can be had if the Bills just meet the asking price.....there is no asking price to be met.....the Jets certainly called about it. If the Giants were in this for a top 3 NON QB, they would have traded out already....They are taking the QB. ....can't stress this enough....hardest thing to find is a high end, franchise type QB. Your odds of getting one are much higher at the top end of a draft. If you think you can get one, you get him. The Giants have the 2nd pick in a year where there are some guys who many think could be that kind of guy. If you are the Giants, you do not know where you will draft next year, and surely your scouting department has told you that the 2019 QB crop is garbage...even if ONE guy emerges...will you be in position to get him? The most value the Giants can get from that pick is to use it this year while they are in position to get their next QB. They even have the unusual luxury of drafting so high but still having a vet QB in place so the new guy can sit if they are so inclinded. The Bills will either sit at 12 or trade up to 9 or so for Josh Allen, or gamble on waiting for Mason Rudolph...but that is a huge risk because Arizona, Pittsburg, and the LA Chargers are lurking...the Chargers are especially dangerous to move up on someone.
  18. My 2 cents. 1. Cleveland will take a QB. 2. NY will take a QB. They will do their due dilligence and field calls, but really they will stay where they are. The reality is, the 2019 Draft Class is going to be one of those years where ZERO QB's are drafted in round 1. It's that bad. The QB's coming out next year SUCK. The crop of potential QB free agents next year...SUCKS...compared to the bounty available this crazy offseason. Eli SUCKS....at this point. He wants to retire a Giant. I can see him accepting his mortality a bit better if he gets to finish as the mentor to his chosen successor (and not benched for Geno Smith) The Giants have considered all this. The most value they can muster from the 2nd overall pick....is to use it themselves. ROSEN. 3. The Jets will take a QB. Consider the situation in New York...they have a GM and a HC who are on short leashes. They DO NOT HAVE TIME to wait for Darnold or even worse, Josh Allen to develop. They moved up here to insure themselves Baker Mayfield. He will be ready to go day 1. He has had a billion college reps, he got better each year, he has a high completion pct. He is a big name. He has a Heisman. He is a charachter. He has JETS written all over him. ...and again...can't stress enough, he is ready to go day 1. The staff needs results sooner rather than later. 4. Cleveland will take someone here not named Saquan Barkley. .....That front office just signed Carlos Hyde to good money, he is a Buckeye, and they have Duke Johnson, who has been one of their better players as the 3rd down guy on the roster. The same front office has a long history of not valuing RB high in the draft...and this one is full of RB....they can get a good one later, if they even think they need another one. 5. Denver. No reason to be scared of these guys taking a QB....and not just becasue they signed Keenum....but consider they did sign him..to starter money. The coaching staff has been told publicly they have THIS YEAR to produce results. The Broncos still have a first round QB on the roster that Elway seems to have wiffed on, but he was supposed to be a 2-3 year project coming out. They re-upped their two WR. They are in win now mode with a coaching staff in win now mode...they simply aren't set up to draft their next QB...this staff isn't going to be around for that....they either win with Keenum or they are done and Denver will then go into rebuild mode. They will take the Guard from ND. Day one pro bowl starter at a position they need desperately. 6. Colts. ...Buffalo could have offered them more than the Jets and I bet they did offer more....but as has been mentioned...Colts understand how this is playing out and at worst they will end up with the 3rd Best NON QB picking here. They will stay put. 7 bucs....another great NON QB player they like here. Barkley is my guess. 8. Bears. Spent heavily on offense in FA...take Davenport. 9. 49ers. This is where the action will be on draft night for Arizona, and Buffalo if they want something still on the QB board. I am guessing Josh Allen, Jackson and Mason Rudolph are what is left. Here is where the Bills move because Arizona will be trying to get up here too...and the Bills get Josh Allen. Miami is not a threat to move up. They quietly restructured Tannehill a couple weeks ago...and parting ways with him will be cap hell the next 2 seasons. They also resigned David Fales... Watch out for San Diego and Pittsburg moving up to that 9 spot for Allen...and if they don't get that...both are major candidates to move around trying to get Rudolph. I do not think Jackson will go round 1. 1. Darnold 2. Rosen 3 Mayfield 9. Allen (to Buffalo) Trade with 49ers 14. Rudolph (to San Diego) Trade with Packers.
  19. I think many of you don't understand the gravity of the Jets trade up to 3. The 2 isn't available. The Giants are keeping it and taking a QB. Eli is just about toast. The 2019 QB draft class is TRASH. There is no way to know where the Giants will pick next year etc. The Giants are NOT one draft pick away from winning anything. The best thing they can do with the pick they have is get the NEXT franchise QB. They are hard to find. You don't pass them when you can get them and you need one. The 2 is not available. 1. Cleveland Darnold. 2. Giants Rosen. 3 Jets Mayfield. Bills trade up to 9 with San Francisco to fend off the Arizona Cardinals and your next franchise QB in Buffalo will in fact be Josh Allen.
  20. Here is my take on this. Cleveland will take a QB at 1. They aren't taking Barkley. They signed Hyde to start, they have a good change of pace back, The FO is not inclined to value RB. I am assuming for the moment that QB they will take is Darnold. For this scenario that doesn't matter too much. The Giants are NOT taking Barkley. Here is why. They know the Browns are going QB. The Giants could trade RIGHT NOW with the Jets, and flop spots. They know the Jets are up there for QB. If the Giants wanted Barkley, they could have HIM and some more Jets draft picks just to flop.....They have surely been called by the Jets, Bills, and whoever else to inquire about the pick. They aren't trading it because they will draft ROSEN. Eli is almost done, the 2019 QB class is room temperature lobster bisque flavored yogurt. They can simply draft the next franchise QB right now....it's the hardest thing to find, there is no promise that at any other time will they have such an easy shot at one....they are taking Rosen....getting the next franchise QB is absolutely the very best thing they could possibly do with this pick. The Jets move up to 3 because the like at least 3 of the QB, but I believe they have come up here for Mayfield. that GM and Coach DO NOT HAVE TIME to wait on developing Allen. Mayfield took a billion reps in college, he improved every year. He has a high completion pct. He loves the spotlight. He's a charachter. He is everything NY wants in an athlete....they went up for Mayfield. .....and IF the Giants decide to see what they can get for the pick....it would be really really easy to bilk the Jets out of something like the Niners got from the Bears last year....but I don't think the pick is in play....Only way is if the Giants could be sure Rosen would be there at 3. Once the QB are gone 1-2-3....Allen will still be high on somoenes board...maybe even the Bills (probably) Arizona will be lurking, calling to go up....the Niners, sitting at pick 9 is going to where the action is....that will be the first team who look at the guys on the board at 9 and feel like moving down to 12 or 15 is worthwhile. Bills move up to 9....take the 4th QB of the draft, Josh Allen.
  21. 1. Cleveland. DARNOLD. Seems to be gathering steams as no.1 overall. 2. NY Giants. ROSEN. This is a deep RB draft class. You can get a good one later. They have a short shelf life. The Giants need a successor to Eli, the 2019 draft class at QB is hot garbage. So bad it won't have a 1st round prospect in it. They won't have a better chance than they will with this pick to get a bonafide blue chip QB to pass the torch to. 3. NY Jets. MAYFIELD. The GM and Coach DO NOT HAVE TIME to wait on Allen. They need a guy who plays day 1. That is Mayfield. He had a billion reps in college. He got better every year, he is a name, and he is a charachter. This who they went up for. 4. Cleveland. KOLTON MILLER. AGain, they signed Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson is on the roster (one of their better players) ...PS. Hyde was a Buckeye..bonus points for the browns fans..the GM comes from a long line of front offices that DO NOT draft RB high. Including when he was the one making the picks with KC. Joe Thomas just Retired. They NEED his replacement, and here he is. 5. Denver. ELLIS. This is another regime with a coaching staff that has THIS YEAR to do something. They signed Keenum to starter money to win now while they think their window is still open. (debatable) ...This isn't the coaching staff to turn a new QB over to when they are fighting to keep their jobs....they need day 1 starters...and their O line is trash..perfect match. 6. Colts. CHUBB. The Colts could consider a trade down, but Chubb is on the board...he is who they will stay at 6 for..no trade down again. 7. Bucs. BARKLEY. The Bucs get a present gifted to them here....the impact playmaker they need in the backfield to go with Winston and Evans. 8. Bears. DAVENPORT. Team needs a premium pass rusher....they spent FA dollars on offense. 9. BILLS. Trade up to 9 with San Francisco. The Niners don't see anything here they MUST have and field calls from Arizona and the Bills about this pick. The Bills give up the 12th, keep the 22nd a 2nd and 3rd to do this. ....and they select.....ALLEN. Knowing Arizona was in on him here, the Bills make the move here and get what they hope is their man. (twobillsdrive.com servers will blow smoke) The rest doesn't matter.
