Its Pretty Obvious why the Chiefs win every year
Matt_In_NH replied to gonzo1105's topic in The Stadium Wall
The personnel mistakes he made....in you opinion. Just because you don't like the results does not mean he made personnel decisions that should be grouped as playing not to lose. I just don't see that is how he coached for that game. Just because you lose does not mean you can conclude he coached to lose. They lost, we don't like it, I get it. To your last paragraph about defensive performances in the playoffs, that is something else and I agree that is an issue. Hard to not call it a trend, is it enough of a sample size to draw the types of conclusions I think you want to draw? Not so sure about that. What do you want to do about it? -

We know this because no rookies play under McDermott? For instance Torrence and Kincaid had a couple years under their belt. The bolded is just complete speculation on your part, there is no chance he thought Klein gave them the best chance to win? Don't answer what you think, especially based on hindsight, consider McDermott and the rest of the staff have a lot more information on each player than you do. What about the 4th downs he went for, were those decisions playing not to lose? Curious if you will answer that. If you had to say the third downs given the down and distance and game situation were playing to win or playing not to lose? -

That is coaching not to lose? I was expecting kicking a FG or punt when they should go for it (of course you don't have that because he went for it everytime it was close) or just running the ball to burn clock. Did you see the interview of McD after halftime? What was your message to the team: McDermott: "Go for it". You like Dorian Williams over Klein, I say both are terrible options. Just because Williams is more athletic does not make him better. He was routinely abused when he played this year. The opposing offenses just manipulated him with scheme, it was broken down by Joe Marino a couple times. -
Id like to nominate Bruce Mathison and Vince Ferragamo https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/M/MathBr00.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/F/FerrVi00.htm

Where did the Bills play not to lose in the divisional round? They went for it on 4th down. They threw to the end zone to score the TD on 2nd and 9. I don't agree with that statement. -
You have been reduced to game day thread takes in the offseason

His celebrity status has gone to his head IMO. He thinks the show is about him. But IDGAF it is common wiht some of these athletes.

I understand they mean something different (playoffs vs regular season). But in terms of play on the field and coming down to the last minute/ play here play there they are in The same zip code not worlds apart. -

Amazing the Bills take them to the brink everytime they play -
They should make a play of Higgins AND Jones. The salary cap is fake right???

This is not super obvious. If you get the ball second you know what you need that is an advantage. On the other hand if both teams kick a FG or score a TD then you get the ball on the third drive for true sudden death which is an advantage.

So Reid and Spags together provide better coaching than McDermott. Great, hard to argue against that. At this point we can also say Mahomes is overall better than Allen being objective about it. He is clutch, wins OT games in the playoffs, Super Bowl and has an unreal playoff record. Obviously the two together form a symbiotic relationship where they both benefit similar to the other previous evil empire. You are going against one of the top QB/Coach combination in the history of the league, the bar is as high as it can be. McDermott and Allen have beaten Mahomes and Reid 3 times in the regular season (yes only the regular season) in Arrowhead. Here is the list of others who have done that: None. McDermott is 0-3 in the playoffs. When you evaluate the last 4 meetings (2 playoffs, 2 regular season) each game has come down to the end, a play here or there flips the game. So McDermott has gone toe to toe with the great Reid and has competed well but in the end lost the two playoff games. Could it just be random luck/ball bounces that flipped the two playoff games toward the Chiefs and 2 regulars season games vs the Bills? I mean we can flip a coin 4 times and you could win two, I could win two. If the two you win are playoffs it takes on a different meaning but could it just be dumb luck on some level? My point here is yep McDermott and Allen have not gotten it done but what should be done about it? I believe the Bills can beat the Chiefs in the playoffs with McDermott. I also know chances of making the gap larger rather than smaller with a new coach is the likely outcome, who do you want? Should the 49ers fire Shanahan for the same reason? He "cannot" beat them either and Shanahan took a dumb timeout in the second half that most of this forum would have exploded over. Most people would say it would be dumb for the 49ers to fire Shanahan including me. If the Bills were in the NFC, would they likely have a little more playoff success the last three years? So who are we replacing McDermott with? -

At times yes but mostly it will be nickel. I would not expect a big difference form the last number of years. The bills our going to be in nickel. -

I like what they have not that it could not be improved, nothing in this thread does it for me. Other than 90's throwbacks for a game here or there, that would be cool.

What are your feelings on James Cook RB1
Matt_In_NH replied to BillMafia716ix's topic in The Stadium Wall
We will have to agree to disagree here. To me identifying a crease and immediately hitting it is his best trait. You can find plays where it gets blown up but assuming that is on him is not fair when you consider hit total body of work. Sometimes there is not a hole
