Agree that creating holesis not a good way to create cap space but it always depends on how much and whatnot. However we disagree on Edwards, the point is you dont create a hole because you have the competent replacement on the roster already....and changing out Edwards does not blow up the talent on the line, the other 4 starter and first three backups all stay in place.
-
How much space do you think he needs to free up?
-
The year of the pick also matters, meaning this years 5th is better than next years 5th. I could see a 4(next year) or 5(this year)....I don't think you are getting a day 2 pick for a one year average OG.
-
Unlike what people seem to think the Bills are very tight vs the cap and they don't have as much manipulation available this year. Extending Edwards kicks the can down the road for a JAG OG, I dont think that is a good move...you limit yourself tomorrow for not a good reason. I think he is easily replaceable. You draft and develop for a reason....when will Grable or Anderson get their shot if everyone is extended?
-
that would be an option too....how about trade him? Again Edwards is somewhat expendable in some eyes because the next man up is on the roster and cheap so you are not creating a hole like you woudl be if you release Daquon Jones

Joe Marino made a case to cut Edwards. Not for his play but just because the pipeline of talent is there with Anderson and grable and it saves money.

The football trifecta and where do the Bills stand?
Matt_In_NH replied to Sweats's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed. Gronk was special....Edelman was a great player with lots of clutch plays...I would argue Shakir is similar but the Bills have no Gronk. -
I could say the bills are obsessed with high round talent at wr with signing hamler, Isabella and claypool? Not saying they are equal at all but when you add Kincaid and Coleman to that they are clearly looking for traits. They have not worked out well enough yet. I feel like they have to hit on one of these picks at some point.

Moss never won a SB........they had 20 years of guys rotating through.....no doubt the three players you list are all first ballot guys but that is not what their dynasty was defined by. That is just Brady and Belichick.....the rest of the parts got changed out. That is not the point of the thread though....if you want to pick three guys from last your it is Shakir, Cook and Allen. I would guess that is what it will be next year too but maybe Kincaid steps up or something. -
I don't think you can objectively claim this.....

Yeah I think the Pats are a counter example.....they had various good players but no "big three". in fact Wes Welker never won a SB. -
Let's be honest, Josh probably has 5 good seasons left

I look forward to see what happens the next 5 years. And then all the years after that when Josh just sucks I guess? -
I am not going to try and argue the Eagles don't have better WR's than the Bills, they do. Who cares what round these guys were drafted, it is what they have done. You say the Eagles "stole" Dotson from the Commanders....and you seem to think it is really important he was a first round pick. He has not performed like a first round pick, not for Washington and not for Philly....he is a low end #3. The Eagles probably have the best roster top to bottom so even though Hurts may not be top tier they can win with him...and btw he is pretty close to top tier. The Eagles are pushing the limits on salary cap manipulation even more than the Saints used to do....they will be forced to not sign or get rid of key guys just like the Saints did. There are different ways to build a winning team, we tend to look at who won the SB and think that is how it should be done. The Bills need to find some blue chip players one way or another to add to Allen.
-
He is a TE but its fair that he has been a dynamic weapon in the pass game. Still does not change the fact they have had severe limitations at WR.
-
They did not say WRs don’t matter. Rather they are over valued. The eagles have talent all over their roster. How about the chiefs wr situation? They traded Hill and went to three straight sbs. Winning two. Bengals and dolphins have great WRs and have zero playoff wins last two years.
-
He is not that special, we disagree.
-
My point is not that more talent is not better its just the obsession with only one position....and I believe some nasty DL would have a bigger impact in a playoff game vs the chiefs than a WR...the SB validated that. You dont have to outscore the chiefs by scoring a million points....you can stop them.
-
He is a great player but you have to put a value on him just like any player. RB's are all unique, they always bring different things to the table, with the line the Bills have they can get someone else for much less than 15M and not have a big drop off.
-
Joe Marino did a good job breaking it down.....there might be a number you can agree to but it wont be 15M. Cook is not an every down back. Sometimes the smart move is letting someone else pay a guy like they did with Tremaine Edmunds.
-
People cannot stop talking about "weapons" even after the Bills broke a lot of points records this year. Meanwhile the DL is the actual problem. The NFL GM's have gone too far too with paying way too much for WR's, they don't make the difference in the playoffs. Bengals have Chase and Higgins, Dolphins have Hill and Waddle and they dont even make the playoffs...the Chiefs have been to three straight SB's, won two with very little at WR. Yet the WGR crowd and many fans get on thier choo choo train about needs dozens of weapons....its so dumb.
