Maybe, but 2 games against the Jets, the Texans, and the Chargers that find ways to lose gets them to 6. It all comes down to Cam and I agree - the team looks bad, but if he finds ways to make plays - he beat the Dolphins already and beat the Raiders. The team fell totally off with the COVID stuff (just like the Bills and their 2 weeks of unknowns) - I thought they were bad to start the season and figured a few things out. Get onto a normal routine and the easy schedule and maybe they get something. I hope they lose twice to the Jets to screw with the Draft, but I doubt it will happen - especially with Darnold out.

I don’t think he is delusional at all. Right now the Pats are playing like garbage, but they have a favorable schedule and I anticipated them beating out the Dolphins for 2nd in the division before the Dolphins beat the Cards. They have 5 more games they should be able to win and be favored in. They have 2 NFC west teams left - those could go either way. Then I think there are the Bills and Ravens as 2 highly likely losses. That gave them a legitimate shot at 8 wins and I thought 2 place in the East, but I think Miami may get 2nd and NE might falter more - really depend upon Cam.

Is the weather really an issue for our passing attack?
Rochesterfan replied to Ramza86's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not really that hard to believe - if you watch the difference between his previous motion last year and earlier this year - the 2 things most recognized by reviewers (guys like cover 1 and former QBs) was the positioning of his off arm and shoulder (they joke about him eating a hamburger) - getting that arm tighter against his frame and up to allow him to get his hips through. The second thing was keeping his base narrow so he can adjust the angle and velocity of the ball. His base had been good for the last couple of games, but he was not as fluid getting his off arm correct and that prevents getting you shoulders in line. That tends to cause balls to either sail or drop to the ground. His throws weren’t way off - they just had not been along the same plane as before. That improved markedly yesterday. I think the KC and NE games you had weather impact, but Tennessee and NYJ you had arm placement issues. I think that was the biggest fault we had in that game. -
Not only in his maturity to move to the correct call, but even after a phenomenal game - he took blame for not adjusting faster to the Seahawks looks as they blitzed him. He came out and said he missed a few calls and recognized it and that got them into the right plays later. It is great to see him continue to recognize these things in game now and make adjustments. In year 1 - it would take a few games to see things enough and make adjustments and it was mostly done by the coaches. In year 2 - he started seeing things, but the adjustments were few and far between - leading to games like NE last year. After that he took it to heart and adjustments have been coming faster and faster and even in game. The Seahawks game went from mid-deep intermediate patters for big gains - to multiple screens and shorter passes after they blitzed to force them out of that. Great job by Josh and Daboll to get to this point.

Challenge Specialist for McDermott
Rochesterfan replied to Heavy Kevi's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this is correct. The video shows he did not step out of bounds, but the video does not show the ball inside the pylon. He moves it left and it might go over it, but based upon that shot - the NFL is very likely to stay with the call on the field - they may adjust the spot, but if they do not rule it a TD - it is still a loss challenge and a lost timeout. -
Challenge Specialist for McDermott

Agreed - they have someone in that role, but as Davis never acted like it was a TD - I doubt that they scoured looking for replays. Typically the player starts the process by making some kind of act like you scored or for a catch/Int - you signal to the coach. Then the coach gets the guy on the head set trying to find out if they have an angle because that is the key. McDermott ha been burned several times on challenges that look good and the NFL has stuck to the ruling on the field. My guess is they had that same feeling with that play. His feet were in bounds, but the camera angle was from behind and to the side not down the line and Davis did not appear to significantly reach the ball inside the pylon. My understanding from the off season is they have both a guy looking at the play and an analytics guy to work that function. -
I don’t see him as a real fit in Buffalo. He has traditionally been more of a rush OLB on 3-4 teams I don’t think he can truly play DE to replace Murphy and I do not think he is a real Klein replacement. I could see a team like Pittsburgh plop him on the PS as an extra pass rushing body for later in the season. That is a much better fit for Beasley as a player.

Chris Simms on Bills-Patriots
Rochesterfan replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But man some posters love to look foolish talking about being out coached, national credibility, and a bunch of other garbage with nothing to really back it up. -
Well let’s see - 2 of the last 3 weeks have been played in downpours with major wind - where neither QB for either team played well. I can’t imagine that had anything to do with it. The other game we had 425 yards and no punts. I don’t think your thoughts hold much water. Sorry.

Does not bother me in the least. No spin - he is what we thought - a mid 2nd round pick that plays limited snaps and was drafted to be a replacement for next year. If he is still on the bench next year - then I will be worried. This year was always about preparing him for the future. Anything else you get this year is great. -

This year is so unique in so many ways. I think they will use this DLine a bit different. They have some hybrid DE/DT to play outside g/t gaps, put DEs outside the tackle, LBs and safety inside to cover gaps. Play a stacked defense with 8-9 guys near the line filling gaps. -

I think this is a short sighted thought process for a game we are more concerned about RBs and Cam running the ball than passing and pass rush. -

I think they want veterans to contain and pressure from the middle. AJ could potentially get tricked and drawn inside leaving room for Cam to the edge. This would have been a great Shaq game from last year. Hold the edge and fall on the QB when they move late. -

I am expecting some 5-2-4 defenses today. Spread out the d-line and play some coverage. Get the ends outside to keep Cam in the pocket and pressure up the middle. Go Bills. -

Oh - so over the last 3 years with multiple playoff appearances they have not been winning the games they are supposed to win. WTF are you on about. This coaching staff has been exactly about that. They win the games they are favored and struggle in games they are underdogs and no amount of your BS changes that. Just because you are a lying troll - does not mean others should have to listen to the BS. Can’t wait for them to just slam you out for repeated trolling. -
Football Outsiders DVOA Ratings

Not really worried about the Dolphins - they have already lost 2 games in the division and are facing their tough stretch. The move to Tua was always about next year and the plan seemed to be to make the switch at the bye week to give time needed to adjust the offense to fit him. The bye was was later in the season until COVID and the plan was allow Fitzpatrick time to mentor him and get them through this tough stretch to the more cushy end of the season. The change in bye week moved up the switch and I do not think he or the Dolphins will be as prepared for this upcoming stretch and therefore - I think they will falter before ending the season on a higher note based solely on schedule (much like the Jets last year). Good Fitz was their best chance at winning the next couple of weeks, Bad Fitz late in the season might have cost them. Tua will be steadier long term, but I am not sure he is ready to face a pressure team like the Rams and we saw how Donald could handle a big, strong cantaloupe farmer like JA if he gets his hands on him - he might catapult Tua to the moon during this game if he gets interested. I still think by the end of the season - they and the Pats are tied for second and third in the division and the Pats will be second based on division record. -
Not quite true as there are 2 teams worse this year - including Tennessee - who is dead last at over 60%. There are also 5 teams within 0.5% or about 1 first down right now. Also looking at the data - the majority of teams are significantly worse - so maybe rather than historical review - we try to understand that without preseason and fans - most defenses are struggling and are trying to figure out how to get fired up to make plays. This is a unique year and we are already seeing many NFL norms falter because of the pandemic.

Should the NFL adopt the college OT format?
Rochesterfan replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ties are rare and I don’t really mind - adds to the thought process of winning a division. -
So the Bills will be irrelevant for the next 10 years if we don’t make a trade that you feel is owed to the fans. Got it. Makes no sense, but ok. The loss of Brady has opened the division and currently we are 1.5 games up - so seems the GM and HC have thought about that. The point is our window should not be just JA’s rookie contract, but his entire 15+ year career. The HC and GM are making a desirable destination making the playoffs 2 of the last 3 and once they win this division this year 3 out of 4. None of that changes if they make or do not make a trade. What does have to be considered is does a trade this year cost us players next year and beyond. Does bringing in a rental player for the end of this year mean we lose draft picks and players and what impact does that have. Again - they owe you nothing - the HC and GM have repeatedly spoken about building a winner and a sustainable winning culture and that to me is more important than blowing a load this year and falling back into the same problems we have had year over year under prior regimes.

Yeah - I mean living through the 0 for the 70’s, the end of OJ, Joe Ferguson, the lovely 2-14 mid eighties- you’re right - I never bled - I never sat in the end zone during the 51-3 playoff game and cheered and cried with my fellow fans. Yes - we finally have a tandem coach and GM that has given us reason to believe, but they do not owe us a trade that costs us in the future. They owe us to be rational and smart - to make deals so that we can enjoy the next 10 years and be relevant - rather than make that deal that will look great and then when we can’t re-sign Milano and the defense gets worse next year - we go back to perpetual 7-9. I think they have looked at the big picture and will do what is the best interest of this team now and going forward and if that means no trades - so be it and if that means multiple trades great. I want them to do what they feel is in the best long term interest of the team.

I hate this, but it is part of the issue with all of the people that always want Allen to Slide. This is one of many QBs that are running and slide late as the defender is coming in and when they slide - the QBs head is now in line with the fender that was going to hit his mid section. This is the most dangerous thing for a rushing QB. The defender has some responsibility, but these QBs run and then just as the defenders are arriving decide to slide and then take a huge shot. If Dalton decides to slide 1 -2 steps earlier he does not get hit and if he stays up and keeps running he takes a big shot to his hip. The worst thing is sliding late and you expose your head to that type of shot. Bostic deserves some punishment, but I think we either need to eliminate the slide or make these QBs slide earlier. Kyler Murray is great at this watching him - he runs and then looks like he is going to slide, but then changes direction as the defense slows. Then if the defense is coming he slides late and gets personal fouls called. He did it 3-4 times against San Fran, but then looks like he is going to slide and busts it for a TD. It is unfair for the defense. I get the rule, but would have no issue if they did not call it because he tried to slide with a defender within 1-2 yards.
