Everything has a bias, but the mainstream media is the equivalent of a pathological liar. CNN and NbcNews tried to hide Biden's decline until it was so painfully obvious, then threw him under a bus until he resigned. Outside of the two weeks between Trump first assassination attempt and Biden's resignation, the media campaigned for the democrats 24/7. They took a clearly outlying poll in Iowa and threw it on the front page like it was a trend two days before the election. That was irresponsible at best and deceptive at worst. Fox is not any better on the other side, remember how they overpushed the election being stolen four years ago? The presence of social media is the mainstream media's worst enemy because it just takes a person with a camera to expose the lies on the news. For example, CNN might make a Harri srally look packed until a person's take a photo of a cell phone camera showing 30 people crowded in two rown and an otherwise empty room. When the system that is supposed to be providing you neutral information is lying, people tend to look at sources that they may not normally regard.

If the DOGE results in the government disclosing what theier books to the people for accountability, that makes it a lot harder to get away with wasteful spending. What is wrong with that? Why is that a bad thing?
-
I have mixed feelings about Trump's choices and was one that voted more against Harris than for him, but I absolutely love this idea. People do not realize just how ineffective government spending is. I have always wanted the government to have mandatory open books. Once the wasteful spending is cut, there will be a lot more to go around for all of the vital services and programs.

Who will be in trumps cabinet?
dgrochester55 replied to 4th&long's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Can't be any worse than making selections solely based on DEI checkboxes. -
More people getting news from Social media is what happens when news turns into propaganda riddled media entertainment designed to tell their fan base what to be pissed off at next. Both sides do it. Just like wrestling fans can choose between WWE and AEW for their favorite brand of sports entertainment, people can choose between Fox and CNN for their preferred brand of media entertainment based on their ideology.

I do not know if what Trump has in mind will work, but I do know that what we have in place now is not working. We all know that the US is less competitive than ever academically, but it is even more than that. I have heard countless horror stories from various people both personally and online on how ineffective schools are including teachers and admins in school districts. If you have one or two disruptive kids, everything slows down at the others kids expense to coddle them. Entitled and bratty kids rule the roost and teachers cannot do a thing. Much higher ratios of functionally illiterate kids in middle school and high school. Teacher are taking retirement as soon as they are able and school have made teaching less enticed by changing pension qualifications from 20 to 40 years and replacing previously good health benefits with the same high deductible junk that most of us are stuck with. If I was a college student, why would I want to be a teacher now?

World Reaction to President Trump Victory
dgrochester55 replied to B-Man's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
What is it like in your parallel universe? I know that it is a much different reality in this one, but things must be really bleak in yours. I am so glad that after ten years of bullying, the virtue signaling, authoritarian far left has finally lost its relevance. Now maybe the rest of the normal US can work on healing and improving the messes in this country. Now comments like your last one will only serve as relics and reminders about how not to repeat a dark time in history. -
Conservative idealisms
dgrochester55 replied to BringMetheHeadofLeonLett's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Because gatekeeping and virtue signaling were totally effective for the democrats this time around. Don't you ever tell others not to do the exact same exact thing that you do on your original post. -
Eliminating the incel ones that no one would get near anyway, I wonder how many of these women will actually go without having sex for the entire four years of Trump's presidency? Honestly, if someone does, I am impressed that they at least stuck with their principles. For the remaining 99.9%, they are just looking unhinged and unstable.

Harris Campaign: $20 Million In The Red
dgrochester55 replied to BillsFanNC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The ways that the dems campaigned reminded me of the mentality that the capital district has in the hunger games series. I grew up during the Reagan/Bush Sr/Clinton presidencies when it was quite opposite. The change still shocks me sometimes. I think that the great recession made the Republicans rethink how they were being perceived and started that seed. After they hand picked Romney in 2012 despite the people wanting Ron Paul or Herman Cain and got blown out, they were ripe for a populist candidate (believe it or not, the establishment Republicans were going to try to push Jeb Bush on us in 2016.) Trump to his credit, took advantage of that. Sanders tried to do the same thing for the dems, but the elite friendly superdelegate rule prevented him from getting the same type of success. I wonder if this result will make the dems rethink their strategy in the same way as the Republicans were forced to start doing in 2008? -
It is strategic projection. If you look at how Hitler came to rise, he often told the masses how the socialist and communists were going to do everything that he ended up doing to scare people into following him. If the far left and media keep pushing the Trump is Hitler narrative, it creates a convenient distraction so that they can do those exact same things themselves. Also, why aren't any of the posters on the left here saying something rational like "This was wrong, I am glad they fired her, but don't think that all of FEMA did this." instead of assuming the worst about the people in need who were denied service and trying to justify it?

I watched a little of Jimmy Kimmel's now infamous tone deaf late show pity party meltdown on youtube. On his own site for the late show, 80 percent of the top comments were critical and in disagreement with his rant, some ripping him and calling out his mentality as what cost the left the election. Again this wasn't a right wing source or news network sharing it, it was directly from his own show page. People are starting to see how out of touch the elite left is. I actually enjoy watching their post election meltdowns, because if they haven't learned from it by 2026 or 2028, nothing will change. Somehow, she actually looked better when she was heavier.

January 20th 2025: On the Clock
dgrochester55 replied to EasternOHBillsFan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Stop for a second. Do you really believe that there will not be another election in 2028? Be honest with yourself, even if Trump wanted to do that, he would be stopped so fast by almost every other Democrat and Republican before he got started. If you really think this is possible, you have bought into the media's fear mongering hook, line and sinker. Back to reality, Trump was elected president by a majority of Americans including millions who voted for Biden four years ago. This is because the left went too extreme. If Trump tried even a fraction of what the media claims, those people and more would vote democrat the next time around. You see, this country has a history of shifting back to the center if one party goes to far to an extreme. Can we all on both sides stop buying into every fear mongering propaganda piece and rant that we see on the internet and do our own research (actual research and not a google search/click the top result on the first page)? Lets rely on more than "but I saw in on the news and a really angry college student with pink hair tweeted it, is MUST be true". The country will be so much better off if we do this. -
Bass has struggled for most of the year but I still think that he is capable of being a good kicker. We can only hope that the 61 yd field goal boosts his confidence. Having Bass at Kicker is like having Derek Carr or Daniel Jones at QB. You might see what others are doing and think that you can do better, but the reality is that you still have a top 32 person at the position and are unlikely to find an upgrade off the street at this point of a season. For this year, it is best to stick with Bass. If the struggles carry into the remainder of the season, that is when you look at other options.

The problem with the left is that they became extreme and authoritarian. People will deal with extreme for awhile if they feel like their primary concern is being heard(ex abortion, trans rights, immigration). People will deal with authoritarianism for awhile if they are scared and want to feel safe (COVID). Once that need goes away or appears to be unaddressed, that is where you lose them. This is what happened to the democrats between 2020 and 2024. They thought that Biden would provide a safe and stalbe environment and he did not do that. Trump needs to learn from this and not fall into the extreme or authoritarian voices which will be whispering in his ear. If he fails to do this, the 5-10 percent who changed their vote will change it right back and fire him like they did Biden/Harris.

Trump won't take as much heat from the media and establishment this time around (at least at first). The only reason for this is because in their eyes, Elon will be the media's boogeyman since he broke the big tech monopoly. RFK Jr if he is appointed by Trump to handle healthcare will be second on the MSM boogeyman list because that threatens big pharma who has their tentacles deep into both parties. For example the media will position approval of more non prescription options as "He's gonna steal your vaccines!!!!" Once we get to around 2026 and 2027, the "Orange man bad" narrative will flare up again, but for now, they will focus on what most threatens their chances of making their view the only option again.

Your Top Three Initiatives for Trump
dgrochester55 replied to Andy1's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
1) Make good on the immigration policies: This is a big part of why he won. Finish the wall and deport the low hanging fruit (those with criminal records and those with no pending application for amnesty or refugee status) as soon as possible. From there, take it case by case, and also make the legal process easier so that there is no reason or incentive for sneaking in illegally if you are not hiding something. 2) Tell us your healthcare plan and make it good: I do not think that government run healthcare is feasible in the US, but I also think that the Republicans need to do better that talking about letting insurance companies overcharge or deny services to pre-existing conditions. Trump never established his plans in healthcare and could never get anything up and running. Healthcare is a train wreck in the US and neither party has talked about it at a meaningful level in years. 3) More accountability for the media: This is a tough one because I do not want this to include suppressing of opinions or free speech. I am thinking more along the lines of consequences for mistakes and deceptions. Both sides had their networks spreading lies and false information about each candidate as if they were fact for the entire election process. I am not sure how to do this but maybe a label using a term such as media entertainment instead of news for NBCNews, Fox, CNN or other networks that lean greatly one way and use emotional driving techniques to hype their fan base. I would also be for mandatory disclosure of which party a news outlet favors, visible and hard to miss headlines when retractions are needed and fines if the deception led to deliberate harm or ill gotten gains for politicians. In my opinion mainstream media is more responsible for this divided country than anyone in either party. Fix that and everyone calms down. Bonus: Start right away with something that most people want on both sides like reducing the cost of pharmaceuticals and banning prescription drugs commercials. This helps to make a good first impression and get the other side to hope for something different this time around. -
There is a huge disconnect between the democrats and the pulse of the country. If the democrats want to win in two and four years, they need to move on from the Jan 6th/threat to democracy/"things are just fine with the economy, you need to try harder"/gaslighting media/telling us climate change is bad and to stop eating meat while flying private jets everywhere narrative. Instead, they need to figure out why their biggest losses across the board in every age, race and gender were from the groups of people making 0-50k and 51-99k. The party somewhere along the way stopped being the party of the people and that was their strong suit for most of my life. If this is becoming a third world country as you stated, than it is time for the left to realize that sound plans on healthcare, housing and jobs mean a lot more to the average person than whether or not Taylor Swift endorses your candidate

Not really. States took more precautions and the election was more carefully monitored this time. I'm not one of those who thought that the election was stolen, but I feel that a lot of last second adjustments in an unprecedented scenario four years ago led to more issues that normal, no matter what the force fed narrative from the media tries to say. People had a right to question the results. I just wish that things had calmed down after the conservative leaning supreme court a couple weeks before 01/06 ruled that there was not enough to conclude that it made a difference in who won.

What is there to protest? This was a blowout and Harris lost voters compared to Biden in just about every single county in the country. Harris took an even larger beating in the income ranges of $50-99k and almost as much in 50k and under. The Democrats should protest against their own party for migrating to a more extreme, authoritarian, tone deaf party that only caters to elites.
