Schopp: Taylor is better than you think.

You're right. 54 TDs and 17 turnovers. Still better than a 3:1 TD to turnover ratio -

Are the Bills Oppressing Anquan Boldin?
transplantbillsfan replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is satirical, right? If it's not, it's pretty obvious that Boldin signed a contract to play with Buffalo, decided to conveniently "retire to pursue social activism" immediately after the team traded away arguably its most lethal offensive weapon and resembled a team going down the tank path and now suddenly (and again, rather conveniently) wants back in. He's still under contract with the Bills. So again I ask, is this thread satirical? -
PFF 2017 QB rankings - Taylor # 7!

Boy oh boy, stick with statistics. Posting stuff that ranks him anywhere from 7th-19th and you think I'm calling him an All-Pro. Read the post you directly refer to and you'll see that it's not about how good he is but about how bad he clearly isn't. And you didn't say Peterman "might" start. You said you think he "will." You can be wrong, too, ya know -

Soooo... What exactly is my argument? And what is the point I'm proving? PS: You actually think this was because I thought I was losing an argument that had to do with the Bills believing Peterman, A fifth round rookie who has literally done absolutely nothing in the NFL, is a better option at QB than Taylor next year? -

What? Suddenly we're talking statistics? Indy, we're talking around each other at this point. -

How would you know if you don't even know what they are? I'll say this, you (and others) may not appreciate my consistent posting about Taylor, but when I have a conversation with someone, I'll actually read everything they say and click on links if there are any before I counter any of their arguments. This was probably just a momentary lapse for you, but it's not a good look. -

Here's a nice breakdown of one of Taylor's throws http://www.cover1.net/filmroom-breakdown-week-7/ There are a bunch of things I love about this play. Let’s first talk about the great timing and placement of this pass. This is a very tight window, especially for a guy who hasn’t shown the ability to pull the trigger on a lot of throws like this. Taylor does an excellent job identifying the rotating safety. Pre-snap, Tampa Bay was showing a 2-high safety, cover 4 look, but right at the snap of the ball the safety on the left hash squats, while his counterpart bails for his deep middle responsibility. The read on this play actually becomes the middle linebacker Kwon Alexander, who you can clearly see Taylor immediately look to at the snap. Jones preoccupies Alexander just long enough to open up that window. Brent Grimes makes a really nice play on the ball; you can tell he had his eyes in the backfield the entire play. So, considering he [Taylor] made a great read and threw a perfect ball that escaped a corner ditching his zone to make an aggressive play on the ball having read Taylor the whole way, this is terrific execution. Taylor really does make this play look easy, but there is so much to like about his ability to read and diagnose the coverage, finding his read key, and throwing accurately to a brief window in the secondary. These are the sorts of plays Taylor will need to continue making to keep this offense trending upward, but this has to give you hope that there might be some passing ability in there that Rick Dennison is tapping into. -

Well, at least I know you didn't bother clicking the links and looking at the passes since there aren't 6 passes there -

whhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaat?! Dude, you can see very easily that Peterman's passes lack the velocity Taylor's passes have. -

Considering that next to Sammy, Goodwin might've been the WR Taylor trusted the most, especially on deep balls, yes. and there's also Robert Woods and Sammy Watkins. Hell, last week showed you what QB & WR chemistry means to a passing game. Hopefully Taylor and Thompson can continue developing their chemistry -

That's a really poor way of judging whether a QB has improved or not. Really? I think he has less to go than you think. Neither of those guys are great QBs, on the whole. Before this year tons and tons of posters pretty consistently made the Alex Smith comparisons, actually. Of course, we're just being victims of the moment and seeing what Alex Smith has done for 7 games in 2017 rather than the prior 11 years he had in the NFL as a starting QB. -

when they're ignorant opinions, yes, it's healthy to ignore them. Alex Smith and Russell Wilson beg to differ -

I think Peterman being the starter next year is a relative longshot in comparison to either Taylor being the starter again OR whatever 1st round rookie we draft being the starter. I also really don't think McDermott's going to make it an open competition at QB if this team makes the playoffs and Taylor plays more like the 4 games I mentioned than the Carolina or Cincy games. -

So are you agreeing that if those things happen, your prediction that Peterman wlll be the 2018 starter is off base? Was your post saying you expect Peterman to be the starter predicated on all those unsaid "ifs" of us losing, not making the playoffs, and Taylor sucking? -

If this team keeps winning, we make the playoffs and Taylor keeps playing like he did against NYJ/DEN/ATL/TB, I'd say there's very little chance Taylor isn't our starter game 1 of 2018 with a young drafted rookie learning on the bench. -

I completely agree with your first 2 paragraphs. Regarding your last paragraph, I think the insinuation is that a more consistent game manager with a high floor and lower ceiling is often more desirable than a high ceiling and low floor. Basically, you know what you're getting with Taylor, rather than someone like Winston who throws 3 picks in week 2 and gave his team no shot to compensate as they lost by 2 scores before coming back the following week to throw 3 TDs and be the main reason for his team's win. Oh yeah, and he was effin terrible against the Patriots missing WIDE OPEN WRs consistently. Sound familiar? Too unpredictable for some. Taylor's floor is predictable. His ceilings are nice surprises. We just need to see them more -

This isn't going to go over well with a couple posters, but right now, Taylor ranks: 7th with PFF 7th in NFL.com's "QB Index" 7th in BR's Doug Farrar's NFL 1000 weekly rankings (What continues to stand out watching Taylor is his wizardry in and around the pocket.) and (But his development as a pocket passer should not be overlooked. Two throws that stand out both went to Deonte Thompson. First, facing a 3rd-and-5 midway through the second quarter, Thompson ran the bending vertical route on a verticals concept working from right to left, and Taylor dropped in a precision throw to convert. Taylor hit Thompson again on a crossing route in the fourth quarter, this time releasing the ball just seconds before absorbing a hit in the pocket.) and I especially love... (There are times when he is a "see it, throw it" quarterback, and if he could get the ball out a hair quicker on some of these plays, he'll put his receivers in advantageous situations. But as B/R's Mike Tanier argued yesterday, "it's hard to criticize Taylor unless you deliberately set out to." He is playing the position at a high level right now and is a big reason for Buffalo's success.) 12th in Passer Rating 17th in ESPN total Qbr 17th in FO DVOA 19th in FO DYAR There are people here who legitimately still think he's a bottom ten QB, if not one of the worst QBs in the NFL. Those people, very simply, shall be directed to the quote referenced above: "it's hard to criticize Taylor unless you deliberately set out to." -

Good example of a bad joke, poorly delivered -
It's still there. The 3 step drop has been mostly eliminated because of the batted balls in the first few weeks, although we saw that a few more times than I expected against the Bucs. The 5 step drop is still there. We're doing a lot of play action and Taylor is extremely effective out of that. Hell, the stark contrast from last year to this year just in terms of snaps under center is incredible: https://www.sharpfootballstats.com/snap-rates--shotgun-v-under-center--off-.html 2016: 20% of all snaps were under center 2017: 57% of all snaps were under center
