Daboll's preferred offense and QB.
transplantbillsfan replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, yes, this sounds essentially like a dumbed down offense that can be spiced up depending on players and QB. EJ, unfortunately, was just a serious choke job of a QB and seemed to fold in the most epic manners. Right, which is the way I understood what I read, as well. More QB friendly, Dabol just didn't have a QB who could actually pass the football competently until the 2nd half of the National Championship game. -

Well... obviously. We just made the playoffs, isn't winning the Super Bowl the next natural step? -
Daboll's preferred offense and QB.

Gotta say, both of these were really interesting reads. It actually sounds like a system that has a ton of options yet, at the same time, really organizes itself and simplifies itself for all the offensive players, particularly QB. Sounds promising for some potentially quick success for a young rookie QB. McDermott hired him quickly... I assume there are reasons -

I'm legitimately surprised more don't. -

Wow... deja vu... I think I've read this exact post from you (wait, how many posts are you up to now under this 4th username in less than a year) 1,301 times now. Do you have early onset Alzheimer's or do you actually think it's pleasurable to repeat the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and... Isn't this the very definition of a crusade and isn't this a violation of the CoC here at TBD? -
It's a joke because, again, Bortles is the garbage time King. For as much as people want to complain about Taylor racking up his stats in garbage time, those same people damn well better weigh heavily the fact that over the last 3 years Bortles has racked up 3,882 yards and 29 TDs as a passer when his team has been down by multiple scores. It's a joke because if anyone, ANYONE objectively watched the Bills vs. the Jags, they would know that Bortles was TERRIBLE as a passer in that game. He torched the Bills on the ground because for some reason our team was completely unaware the guy is a great scrambler. But Bortles was missing simple wide open unobstructed screen passes to his guys. He missed MANY of them. Hooray, he got a TD on a 4th down play... so that one play means he outplayed Taylor, who watched 3 of his passes dropped, one tipped by a defender making a fantastic play on a very catchable football that was intercepted, and another completion be ruled incomplete because our WR was unaware his right foot was out of bounds? It's a joke. Taylor is better than Bortles. Yards? Great, you stick with your yards argument. The rational world has watched Bortles play.

Shady Wants to Keep His "Lil Coins" in 2018
transplantbillsfan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills were one of the most predictable teams in the NFL on 1st and 2nd down. Defenses almost always knew what was coming just like all of us sitting there screaming at the TV saying we knew what was coming next because it was obvious. Just look at the 1st quarter of the Jags game as an example where, despite not working in that game, Dennison decided to call that play action bootleg to the right 5 times. Again, that was in just the 1st quarter and IT DIDN'T WORK! You understand that type of play calling if it's working even though I think that was a fault of Dennison's, too, because if he has a play that works really well, he would literally call it the very next play and we'd get stuffed. The guy was just a terrible OC. I'm super glad he's gone. Shady had his worst year as a pro (which, by the way, was still really good) and it was primarily because of Dennison. Maybe Shady lost a little speed, but it's not his speed that makes him special, it's his elusiveness, which he clearly still has. Can't wait to see him back in a Bills uniform next year on his way to 12K! -

This was a lot more Dennison and the OL than anything. And now Dennison has been quickly let go. Shady's worth it. Let him have it. -
riiiiiight... didn't realize you bumped a thread that was on page 3 or 4 at least by the time you bumped it... sure 3 Tyrod threads on the front page? You mean the TWO that are there, one of which I posted purely about Dennison regarding how the Bills had the most stuffed runs (0 yards or less) in the NFL on 1st and 2nd down (was Tyrod even talked about in the OP?) and the other that's really just been good fun responding to Crusher-under-a-new-name? Okay, Eeyore.

When the team needed to come from behind by 1-8 points on the year, Taylor was 94/145 for 967 yards for 6 TDs and 1 INT with a passer rating of 94.8. When the team needed to maintain a "slim lead" ahead by 1-8 points on the year, Taylor was 48/79 for 560 yards for 3 TDs and 0 INTs with a passer rating of 94.9. We just didn't really pass very much.

Well, Taylor was actually exactly in the middle of the pack of the NFL when it came to throwing to the sticks (ALEX), according to Footballoutsiders. He was also 17th/34 in AY/A and 20th/34 in ANY/A. He wasn't chucking it down the field all the time like in 2015, but I think it's a bit hyperbolic to say he was throwing the ball a lot shorter than other NFL QBs consistently.

Interesting stuff! Thanks If you're referring to audibles, not every OC lets his QB audible. Hell, Big Ben, 1st ballot HOFer, publicly admitted Haley hasn't allowed him to audible to a QB sneak for years now when that may have been the difference on a 4th and inches play against the Jags last weekend.

Bortles is worse than Taylor. Sorry. Fans like you get suckered into QBs like Bortles without realizing over his career, more of his production has come in garbage time than the vast majority of NFL QBs, by far. Over the last 3 years, here's his production when his team has been down by multiple scores (9 or more points): 28.5% of all of his attempts 30.3% of all of his completions 32.3% of all of his yards 36.7% of all of his TDs 32.3% of all of his rushing attempts 37.2% of all of his rushing yards 42.9% of all of his rushing TDs Bortles is fortunate enough to be on probably the most talented team in the NFL. His production over the course of his career has been illusory and massively in garbage time.

Yuck! You want a QB who literally can't stay on the field because he's an injury away from just retiring? Talent wise, sure. But Bradford can't stay on the field. Get a guy who's durable, please.
-
3 HOF guys, one retired, one over 40, one who's been talking about retiring for a couple years ago. The AFC is getting more wide open. Why'd you leave out the NFC? Brad Johnson Jake Delhomme Donovan McNabb Matthew Hasselbeck Rex Grossman Eli Manning Kurt Warner Drew Brees Aaron Rodgers Eli Manning Colin Kaepernick Russell Wilson Russell Wilson Cam Newton Matt Ryan Case Keenum/Nick Foles

Muchas gracias What's a tongue and cheek have to do with what you said? You didn't even say it with your tongue or your cheek. You typed it on an Internet message board. Not at all. If we upgrade the position, I'll be stoked. But I think the likelihood of Taylor being gone in March is low, unless we've traded him as part of a package at that point to trade up in the draft. Personally, I don't think Beane or McDermott will go the route of a FA vet QB. I think they want their guy in the draft in the 1st round specifically, which was the whole point of all of our moves last offseason going all the way back to trading down with KC in the draft. Sorry, had to be serious for a moment, there

I'm very excited about this QB offseason. Can't wait to see who we draft in the 1st. I could see Tyrod being part of a package deal on draft day to trade up. I could also see Tyrod being kept on the roster for one more year Who knows? If we get Darnold, Mayfield or Rudolph in the 1st... I'll be stoked! A fun few months ahead of us

Ever consider that Keenum is more the product of Shermur than anything? Look how incredible Bradford looked Week 1. Doubt he remotely resembles that under Dennison. So... you mean Keenum's first 5 years as a journeyman might be more representative of who Case Keenum is than what he's done this year under an OC who's about to become a HC somewhere next year because of his spectacular work with bleh QBs? Interesting I hope Dabol is the next guy like that after being wildly successful for a few years molding our new QB we draft in the 1st round this year
