"Rational" is the key word. The numbers are out there. People panicking, clearing Costco out of toilet paper, buying masks (one time use) for $100 on eBay, canceling all sporting events/travel/work? I think the "rational" boat has sailed.

Do you curtail your parents activities due to the flu? Do you stop them from driving? Do you stop them from walking? That may come off as flip, but I am asking it seriously. You work in the ER so you see horrible things every single day. Does that stop you from living your life knowing that an accident, an illness, a random well ... anything, could incapacitate you or bring about your death? In other words, do you live in fear? Or do you live your life? (And no, I ain't bookin' a trip to Wuhan China tomorrow, but I will tell you that my son is already thinking about an Italian vacation when things settle down in Italy.) We have had hair-on-fire end-of-the-world media driven apocalypses for many years now. This one is another in a long line. Swine flu, Ebola, Legionnaires disease, bird flu (and about 100 more)... all were going to lead to the destruction of the world. Heck, this one may yet and people will be dancing on graves that they were correct. As for myself? It ain't livin' if I am hidin'.

I feel bad for the Italians, Paolo. I truly do. I feel horrible for the elderly. I feel bad for their families. I feel awful for the lack of medical equipment that is preventing Italy from combating this virus. Regardless, the numbers are what the numbers are. Approximately .000015% of the population has COVID-19. Less will die from it. Compare that with other diseases, viruses, accidents, etc. It has been devastating to China, Iran, and Italy. That will, unfortunately for the citizens of those countries, help the rest of the world learn to deal with this virus. I wish the best for you and your loved ones.

Unfortunately, this virus is killing people over 70 (80s and 90s hardest hit) and people with certain preexisting conditions.. Italy has the second oldest population in the world. And, Italy now has approximately 9,000 of the 113,000 cases worldwide (out of 7.7 billion people). Let's call it 120,000 cases. There are 7.7 billion people in this world. As I posted the other day, your chances of dying from a car accident, walking (falls), or the flu are much greater than catching, or dying from, this disease. Are you going to give up driving? Are you planning on giving up walking? Did you get a flu shot? There is a reason people are stoking panic, and it ain't due to disease concern.

You know, in 2016 I felt bad for the Bernie Bros when he betrayed them and took the settlement. In 2020? Naw Bernie showed them what he is. Fool me once...

I have him on ignore. I miss all the "good stuff." Apparently, while on vacation people do not post to/read the forums. Hubby and I have been traveling since the beginning of September (we were home for the holidays) and I have not exactly read or participated most days, but there are some days in Spain we just are not doing anything except drinking wine on the balcony while watching people stroll the boardwalk and swim in the sea. ?‍♂️ Spain = we did this instead instead of Florida this year. To say this vacation is chill, is an understatement.

I don't get it. Biden is a lose-lose. If he is the nominee after the HUGE thumb on the scale from the DNC chances are excellent he loses the general. If he wins the election (after found thumb drives, hacking, and cases of ballots are mysteriously discovered), we all lose. And yet, I am reading people on this sub-forum say they will vote for him if he is the Democratic nominee. Why? Because there is a D after his name? He's a senile, corrupt, life long politician. And none of that is hyperbole. Yikes.

Thanks, @Hedge We are in Spain, not Italy, although we do keep up with the news. While our location wouldn't be a bad place to get quarantined (on the Mediterranean ?) supplies are low or never existed here. You cannot get Purell (although you could home brew your own as rubbing alcohol is easy to come by), I have seen nothing like Lysol in the stores, Kleenex is difficult to find, etc. Europe is fabulous, but there aren't the supplies like in the United States. Italy's tourism industry has to be decimated, and after spending six weeks there last fall (covering a great deal of the country) I can say with a fair amount of certainty that it will severely hurt their economy, and people are going to be hurting for years to come. Italy is extremely dependent on tourism dollars. The economic impact of South Koreas not traveling is hurting Spain. We went to Alhambra the other day (absolutely fabulous) and it was pretty empty. Our tour guide made mention that it is normally packed with Asians, specifically South Koreans. I know in Italy, not only is South Korean tourism huge, they advertise wedding packages in Italy specifically to South Koreans. It is big business. We live in a very interconnected world.

Looks like there will be tanker buying for future profits. Imagine being able to know exactly what your profit will be in 6 months based off oil futures?

I'm sure the Trump Team will agree to this if (when) Biden ends up being the candidate and the two do debate. Prolonging the inevitable. At some point, the population-at-large will learn that Joe Biden has cognitive issues.

I do not think that the Dems have figured out that they are calling their voters racist (no Spartacus!), homophobic (no Mayor Pete!) and sexist (no Kamala, Amy, Lizzy, and they change the rules constantly to block Tulsi). Winning friends and influencing people with a great messaging has been what the DNC has been all about since 2008!
