NFL GM Power Rankings (Brandon Beane/Sean McDermott ranked 1st)
Doc Brown replied to MJS's topic in The Stadium Wall
Colbert shouldn't be top five. Belichick shouldn't be in the top 10. It's not a lifetime achievement award. I'd go McDermott, Veach, Licht, Snead, and Tobin in that order. -
Get your money when you can. He has ALL the leverage. You’re one freak injury away from living in a van down by the river the rest of your life.

As long as a feather doesn’t hit him in training camp it might work out.

Stefon Diggs TD celebration in Foxboro. -
I don't know how much influence Beane or McDermott had in that draft as Gettleman had final say. Gettleman's stubbornness with Norman put them in that position. Three of their top four picks were CB's though after Norman left. They were 29th in pass defense that year so I'd like to think they learned their lesson on rolling the dice with rookies. Bradberry and Worley were exactly what you'd expect out of starting rookies. Inconsistent. My guess is they bring in a veteran and draft a rookie to compete for a spot opposite Dane Jackson if T. White isn't ready to go this September.

If LB Devin Lloyd is available at Pick 25......
Doc Brown replied to Special K's topic in The Stadium Wall
It's entirely possible they want to see him play behind what should be the best line's he's seen thus far in his career this season. Even if it means squandering a chance to trade him this off-season. They see themselves as a Super Bowl team and I doubt they take the chance of relying on a rookie at such an important position on their defense. -

I agree with this. I think it's more likely than not they extend him before this season as I do agree that having a player play on a 5th year option means they're not sold on that player. They resigned T. White and Allen before their 5th year option kicked in. They didn't pick up Lawson's. If they don't re-sign him before next off-season than they may play the see what you can find elsewhere and let us match it card. I just think the extension is more likely than not based off everything I've heard from McDermott and Beane thus far. -

Beane's made plenty of mistakes. I'm not arguing that. Trading up for Cody Ford being his biggest thus far and they had no problem relegating him to a backup role last season. A competent GM (which I think Beane is) should be well aware of not letting his own personal ego/biases impact his personnel decisions. If it wasn't for the unforeseen opt out season Star was able to take advantage of I don't think he's on the team last season given his contract. Hell, they cut him this year and ate up all that dead cap. Epenesa is on the team because he's on a cheap rookie deal and it takes some players longer to develop. Ask Beane if he regrets trading Wyatt Teller right before his second season. The point is based off his comments made after this season his track record points to him re-signing Edmunds. -

I've yet to see him go to bat for a player and then trade him (or not re-sign him). If he does with Edmunds then that's something new I'll learn about Beane. Right now I'm just going off his track record. -

That crossed my mind too but that's not really Beane's style. This was the quote that caught me off guard a little bit and put me in the camp of they're probably re-signing him. “Yeah, we definitely do. We drafted him as high as we did. He’s been a captain. He’s continued to ascend and grow. I know he’s been a lightning rod for, I don’t know all the reasons, you guys probably know well more than I do. I hear the questions, and I get it. I’m a fan of him,” he said. “I think sometimes some of his deficiencies have been talked about more than the things he does good. He’s a 6-5 kid, 250 pounds. He’s not a knock-back, Dick Butkus-style linebacker, but his range and ability to play in coverage — we talk about matchup linebackers. When you look in the draft every year, there are not a lot of three-down matchup linebackers. This is a passing league, and you must have guys who can play the run but who can also cover tight ends, backs, etc. I get the criticism, but I’m not really in that camp.” -

This is spot on and why I doubt they move on from Edmunds. The compliments Beane gave him at the combine surprised me because it just gave Edmund's agent more leverage. -
I didn’t see the clip but I remember Keshawn saying Lamar was better at the end of last season despite a horrible season by him. There’s a common denominator but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Diggs Extended 4 more years breaking news per WGR 550
Doc Brown replied to BillsPride12's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'll add Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin to that list. Hell, Heins Ward if you want to go back a decade. There are posters who bring up a good point that no WR over 30 had over 1,000 yards last year. There's plenty of examples of WR's hitting a wall around the age of 30 (Dez Bryant is the first name that comes to mind). We're going to get a much bigger sample size with Kupp, Adams, Diggs, Lockett, Theilen, and Hopkins all around the same age. Beane made a calculated risk that they have at least four more good years in Diggs who's excellent route running can help minimize any decline in quickness. The connection with Allen shouldn't be overlooked. To me Von Miller is the contract that makes me the most uneasy. Three years taking him to the age of 36 until we can get out of the deal with a manageable dead cap hit. -
Am I the only one who hasn't completely given up on Zack Moss?
Doc Brown replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
I see a free rusher (Adrian Phillips). that will likely chase you down if you try and run outside Spncer Brown and at best you get a one yard gain. Maybe even a loss if Brown can't sustain his block. Or you put your head down and try to get a three or four yard gain inside hoping Morse will sustain his block (he doesn't). If you want to argue he doesn't have the greatest vision this is a poor example to use. -
Bengals to Columbus or Jaguars to Orlando are scant possibilities over the next decade. That’s about all I think could happen.

I’m sure the NFL would love to have a team in Toronto given they’re the fourth largest city population wise in North America. LA isn’t exactly a football city but the market is so big they put two teams there.

Chiefs schedule is really tough (they play the Bucs, Bills, and Bengals) while the rest of the division gets easier opponents. The loss of Hill and a running game will hurt them. The NFC West is a tough conference to play too so that will bring down their win total. I've got Bills, Bengals, Colts, Chargers, Ravens, Raiders and Titans in that order for the playoffs. So, two from the AFC West. The Broncos have a lot of promising young WR's but they don't have Metcalf or Lockett. I don't trust their o-line either.

I was worried then and that's before the WR market absolutely exploded. Let the Poyer watch begin.
