Updated scenario for scheduling to be voted on Friday
Doc Brown replied to The 9 Isles's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'd be most upset if I was a Bengals fan. They had the ability to win the division and the number two seed in their hands before the MNF game. Now they might not even get to host a playoff game if they lose against the Ravens and lose a coin flip despite technically winning the division. They also lost the ability to host the Bills in the divisional round if the Bills beat the Pats. -

That's overall win percentage if I'm reading it correctly. The last thing NFL owners want is to vote against a new rule proposal that would be viewed as unfair to a team whose player almost died on the field. Not great optics. -

I guess they should just put up a vote for AFC winning percentage to determine the seeding then. -

We won by four. Relax. LOL. We can still host them if they by some miracle lose to the Raiders this Saturday. Go Stidham. -

I don’t see how they could’ve made it any fairer. There wasn’t a perfect solution. Rumors are Indy. -

On the bright side. An indoor Allen vs Mahomes battle would be so fun to watch. -
Probably but the Chiefs gaining significantly on the Bills (and possibly Bengals) misfortune seems wrong. Especially since they lost to both. I don't see the downside of an eight team playoffs just this one year in the AFC just to avoid giving the Chiefs a bye week. Three games on Saturday. Three on Sunday. One on Monday. Sign me up. I'm sure the NFL and the tv networks won't mind.

Even reading it slowly another team could knock off the Chiefs in the divisional round in which case we'd still host the AFC Championship game if we make it that far. So in my mind there's not much difference between the 2 and the 3 seed. The home field advantage would be minimal in the divisional round between us and the Bengals IMO.

Home field really isn't what I'm thinking. It's more about only having to play one less game to reach the AFC Championship game (most likely the Chargers in the divisional round) and not having to face both the Chiefs and Bengals to get to the Super Bowl. Let them duke it out in the Divisional round.

Doubt it. The NFL's official website already has the scenario laid out as if they'd go by traditional win % meaning we have no shot at the one seed if KC wins on Saturday. They basically ripped the Bills controlling their own destiny for the one seed from their hands if they go by winning %. Unless they resume the Bills/Bengals game the following week there will definitely be a giant asterisk next to the AFC Champion this year.

A Wednesday night game is probably what they'll do if we get good news with Hamlin. They'll pry push the Bills/Pats game and the Bengals/Ravens game to Monday night. During Covid the NFL was extremely aggressive to make sure all the games were played to the point where the Broncos had to start a practice squad WR at QB. I'm just guessing at this point though as it's an unprecedented situation.
