The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Boatdrinks replied to 1B4IDye's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Your assumptions about this have no basis in reality. They’re based on a false choice, a false hope. Lockdowns and staying home another 4-8 weeks isn’t likely to save many if any lives. It will simply change the date of illness and probably of death. Not only are we not building herd immunity while shuttered indoors, but we’re tanking the economy even further into the abyss. We won’t be any meaningful measure safer from Covid 19 in two to three months than we are now. Coronavirus is now part of our overall landscape, whether or not you want to admit it to yourself. Yes, more people are going to die from this. There won’t be a vaccine anytime soon; perhaps not ever. Treatments will eventually emerge, but the economy isn’t designed to shut down for an extended period of time, nor is government set up to continually pay it’s citizenry to be idle. No, Covid19 will now just have to be factored into our daily risk tolerance. Some may stay holed up in a cave for years or whatever, but most will eventually say they’d rather go on with their lives and do what they wish. There were large gatherings and sports events, theaters and bars in previous eras where the risk of disease and death were far greater. Indeed, life expectancy was much shorter largely due to disease. -

I’d expect that our health care professionals have given their best whichever area of the country they are in. I think the mortality rate is far more likely to be influenced by the general health of the patient and by individual genetic factors that we may not even know about yet. Many deaths were patients with underlying health issues but some were not. Some have even referenced on this board young and athletic individuals with extreme symptoms. So it seems likely that even with good overall health, some could have an unknown genetic vulnerability to Coronavirus. Just as it appears a significant percentage of the population will have no symptoms at all. -

Great, a self isolating sports-less offseason and still the main subject on sports TV is Brady and Gronkowski. -

Shouldn’t Trump love the uneducated ? Don’t they matter to Libs ? Certainly some of those uneducated are minorities, whom the Libs say Trump doesn’t care about because he’s racist, right? Anyway, while Trump likely has some support there, many of us Trump supporters are indeed educated. We just happen to be a bit older, and got our education when that meant something other than being indoctrinated . When we were thought to think critically for ourselves. We weren’t told that gender is fluid, Government involvement is best and should always be trusted, caucasians are racist and bad, criminals are victims, PC is a virtue and we deserve a safe space when “ triggered”. Those who received that type of “ education” probably don’t like Trump. -
NYC was shutdown also. They don’t appear to have been spared at all. The lockdowns probably helped somewhat, but the degree could vary widely. Anyway, we’re just going to have to unshackle the country sooner than later. It seems the Coalition of Governors are trying to shield themselves from individual criticism by taking a vastly regional approach. True. I never listened directly to much that the Obaminator had to say. Lefties hang on every word, getting massively triggered by the minute. Weird way to live.

If you lean even slightly libertarian, you’re likely not happy with the heavy handed approach of the coalition of Leftist Governors. Trump’s statement in this case won’t be viewed so negatively. The LSM here in New York has been bombarding us with messages about how high Cuomo’s approval rating is. The real answer is it depends who you ask. I think Trump knew exactly what he was doing with his statement.

Biden barely has 10 functioning brain cells. He won’t be President, thank goodness. If he were, economic devastation would follow along with surrendering of liberties and a spiral into socialism. I see how you love the socialist Democratic Governors pooling together to save us from ourselves. It must suck to be that internally soft, Tibs ; to live in absolute fear of not having government protection from everything life might throw at you. -

Just saw that the NYT put the Biden story on page 19. Hmmmmm. Probably the same page they put the Kavanaugh stories on awhile back. -

Coronavirus appears to have a worse effect on those with underlying conditions. Americans, especially in certain regions aren’t a healthy lot. If you think the President or leader of a nation could have prevented Coronavirus , and especially deaths of those who were infected you’re just flat out wrong. -
I like 1 and find 3 appealing for some reason.

No.if Biden did it ,he absolutely should be investigated. If Trump “ did it” it’s probably just a media-assisted money grab by a once willing participant and should be looked at with scepticism. -

Sleepy Joe is creepy Joe, kinda like a weirdo uncle- closet sex offender. The other actually knows a thing or two about how to get with a pornstar. Completely different ends of the spectrum. -

Regional differences must be taken into account, though. WNY just isn’t NYC for a lot of reasons. That’s a special case and needs special restrictions for a longer period of time. -

There is tons of duplication and overlap in government, so perhaps that was a reason ? Anyway, I don’t think having another 50 Obamaczars on some committee was going to make any difference. No one was locking down the USA any earlier. Going forward, though it is imperative that Trump serves another term with the rough economic road ahead. If entrusted to a sleepy Joe or some other lefty, America could soon be unrecognizable ; a veritable economic wasteland. -
It may not be true. If it’s not though, we’re not effed by any means. Estimates are that anywhere from 25 to 40% of people with Coronavirus are asymptomatic. The vast majority ( probably in the high 90% range) of people will recover. It’s not going to wipe out a huge swath of the population. There will eventually be a vaccine, but there will likely be effective treatments long before that.
