. Saw this the other day, classic CNN. Their message is that nothing is safe enough anymore ;we must remake society as a closed, locked down culture.only some can work and many must rely on government support to survive. Essentially they want to rewrite the constitution due to Coronavirus. Cuomo is already saying NYS should “ use this to imagine a better, more socially just NYS”. Whatever the heck that means. Wow.

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

Idiot Cuomo on now telling us NYers that we haven’t been shut down for that long, and shows graphic of how long WWI and WW II went on. He outdoes himself seemingly every day. A couple days ago he told us the economy wasn’t really shut down- it’s just shut down for those who “ have the luxury of staying home “ to work. Amazing that anyone in NYS supports this nut job. -

Tibs, we know that medical experts believe in varying degrees that there will be a second wave. There may also be a third wave, etc until someday hopefully we have effective treatments and maybe a vaccine. If you recall, the shutdown was not meant to prevent any and all future cases of Coronavirus. It was to “ flatten the curve” and not overwhelm hospitals. We needed time to prepare the health system . Through massive personal sacrifice of Americans - 22 million out of work after just 30 days of locking down the economy- we’ve achieved that goal. So yes, as soon as the economy is reopened there will be more cases- Coronavirus isn’t going anywhere , it’s going to be with us for a long time. Is your post just part of the overall Lib tactic of moving the goalposts on Covid19 ? You know, as in we must stay locked down as a Country and society until Covid19 no longer exists? That notion is pure fantasy Tibs, Coronavirus is now part of our world. -

Reckless, sure. I get that, but I’d probably say something to them personally before anything else.As for testing , I believe the only criterion as of two days ago in Erie County is to have symptoms. That was a change from previous criteria. You now only need to show symptoms, and they have plenty of tests according to the County Exec. -

I believe we already have that type of testing. At least we do in Erie County; anyone with symptoms will be tested through their provider or through the County if they don’t have one. They must immediately quarantine once tested. They should quarantine if they even have symptoms. However , there are a lot more asymptomatic individuals that are infected and contagious. Probably many times more than the number of known cases. That’s a much more difficult issue, and I’m not sure there’s any way to do a lot about it. -
Oh, I agree on the temperature screening. It’s like the TSA screening implemented after 9/11. Strictly for show. And also agreed on the gym deal along with other things. Nothing is really going to be all that safe from covid 19. Eventually we will all know individually if we are very susceptible to it, kind of like a major food allergy. We will know our status and hopefully there will soon be highly effective treatments for those who would have an extremely negative reaction to it.

No, it’s real. No one knew the extent of this except China. They lied. The reported numbers are real, and President Trump talks about them daily at his press briefings. Do you believe him when he gives the updates, or do you just go with what they tell you on CNN ? -

We must assume that everyone we see or meet could be spreading a virus. Because they might be , unknowingly. Don’t fall for government schemes to restrict all of our movement by turning on each other. That’s just a Democrat scheme to take power and devolve the nation into Socialism. Consider the source: DeBlasio. This nitwit wants prison cells to have a kitchenette and individual Air Conditioning - that’s something many honest Americans in his city can’t afford for themselves. He expressed surprise that criminals he released due to Coronavirus concerns got arrested on new charges in short order. The man is a moron. -

Are you a doctor or scientist ? Infectious disease expert, Mr Transplant Jengafish? Scientists and Medical experts are just that; they’re not economists. Those are two different things. Just what medical experts say that Coronavirus is going away any time soon ? That an effective vaccine is imminent ? And what “ progressive policies” are you referring to? Mass transit to spread disease? Less people working and more on Government assistance , to go with less freedom ? What did people do in America when there were no vaccines for a lot of diseases ? Fortunately for all of us ( yes, even “ progressives”) our previous generations were not going to live in fear and let the government limit their daily lives. Trump will be re-elected in November, but don’t worry. You’ll still be free to hide under a rock until you feel it’s safe to come out. -

It appears the number of actual cases/ infections are extremely underreported. The death numbers are even more skewed by NYC and NJ , where the fatalities are much higher than other regions. People are going to continue to take precautions, so I don’t think that number of deaths is anywhere near a certainty. Hopefully there are effective treatments long before a vaccine. -
The Big Gamble: Hydroxychloroquine

The side effects are well known, as the drug has been around for years. Trump may have said / implied it couldn’t hurt when there are no known treatments. -

Be prepared to wait a long , long time. There may not be a vaccine for years, if ever. Is there a vaccine for any other known Corona virus ? I mean , there’s a flu shot but it doesn’t make you immune to the flu. -
None of us know what might plunge another into despair. Of course , it’s all personal. The virus is a personal thing too. Many will have no symptoms, some will have a mild cold or cough, others will get extremely sick for a time, and others will ultimately succumb to it. Completely depending on individual health and genetics, and therefore personal. Everyone will be exposed to it eventually, like the common cold or influenza.

She keeps asking about screening, but I don’t think business will be screening nearly the amount that some people think. It’s just not a realistic proposition. Perhaps waivers will need to be signed for gyms, etc. A temperature screening is probably about it. We’re not going to be able to test people on the spot to enter establishments etc.

It is a good thing, for sure. If a Dem was in power, we’d have a new green deal or whatever , more public transportation to spread Covid19 like wildfire, free money to stay out of work for another year or more , no airlines , food lines and maybe reparations too. -

It’s a potentional problem, yes. However, one would have to prove that accepted guidelines weren’t being followed. It will also be difficult to prove just where someone became infected. In short, no one has a legal right not to become sick through random chance, or to be infected by someone who didn’t even know they had an illness. I’m sure lawyers will have a field day finding people to blame for someone else’s bad luck. -

Your assumptions about this have no basis in reality. They’re based on a false choice, a false hope. Lockdowns and staying home another 4-8 weeks isn’t likely to save many if any lives. It will simply change the date of illness and probably of death. Not only are we not building herd immunity while shuttered indoors, but we’re tanking the economy even further into the abyss. We won’t be any meaningful measure safer from Covid 19 in two to three months than we are now. Coronavirus is now part of our overall landscape, whether or not you want to admit it to yourself. Yes, more people are going to die from this. There won’t be a vaccine anytime soon; perhaps not ever. Treatments will eventually emerge, but the economy isn’t designed to shut down for an extended period of time, nor is government set up to continually pay it’s citizenry to be idle. No, Covid19 will now just have to be factored into our daily risk tolerance. Some may stay holed up in a cave for years or whatever, but most will eventually say they’d rather go on with their lives and do what they wish. There were large gatherings and sports events, theaters and bars in previous eras where the risk of disease and death were far greater. Indeed, life expectancy was much shorter largely due to disease. -

I’d expect that our health care professionals have given their best whichever area of the country they are in. I think the mortality rate is far more likely to be influenced by the general health of the patient and by individual genetic factors that we may not even know about yet. Many deaths were patients with underlying health issues but some were not. Some have even referenced on this board young and athletic individuals with extreme symptoms. So it seems likely that even with good overall health, some could have an unknown genetic vulnerability to Coronavirus. Just as it appears a significant percentage of the population will have no symptoms at all. -

Shouldn’t Trump love the uneducated ? Don’t they matter to Libs ? Certainly some of those uneducated are minorities, whom the Libs say Trump doesn’t care about because he’s racist, right? Anyway, while Trump likely has some support there, many of us Trump supporters are indeed educated. We just happen to be a bit older, and got our education when that meant something other than being indoctrinated . When we were thought to think critically for ourselves. We weren’t told that gender is fluid, Government involvement is best and should always be trusted, caucasians are racist and bad, criminals are victims, PC is a virtue and we deserve a safe space when “ triggered”. Those who received that type of “ education” probably don’t like Trump.
