I'm really starting to love this WR room. We quietly got better

Lighten up Francis They did exactly what you asked except instead of double dipping for a guy that fell several rounds lower than anticipated they got two FAs in Claypool and MVS that were I believe in the 2-4th round range when drafted. So they didn’t just double dip. They double-double dipped. -
How close is Allen to Mahomes if all things were equal?

Whoops! 5 yard throws. -

Mahomes gets the nod even if all things were equal. Not by a lot, but he does. Both have great arms, both can run (Josh is better but Mahomes can move when required), but Mahomes is better at taking what defenses give him, will take the 5 yard throw when it’s there. That’s the one area of Josh’s game where he can and will improve. -

Let's look at this systematically. A few questions: 1. Would you agree that getting Samuel and losing Davis is, at the very least, an even swap? 2. Would you be as worried about the WR spot if they had kept Diggs, even though Diggs' production fell off over the latter part of last season? 3. Would you agree depth is better this coming year than last year? As near as I can tell, this whole thread boils down to losing one guy: Diggs. if your view is that Diggs is going to be the Diggs of several years ago, fine. But if not, then what else should the Bills have done to change things? It does not seem they the cap space to go after some big name guy, and they used the first pick they had to get a big WR in Coleman whom the star QB advocated for. -

The fact that they added two guys in Kincaid and Coleman the past two years, each of which according to reports Josh lobbied for and wanted, apparently escapes you. -

As I keep saying if Beane wants to bring another guy in great. But you put say Kincaid, Samuel, Shakir, Coleman and MVS/Cook out on the field, with one of the best QBs in the league throwing, I think our offense will be fine. We’ll know soon enough and all the naysaying or positive gushing over things won’t change that. No offense led by Allen will be bad. -

So now only certain catches count? Come on now. My view is Shakir and/or Samuel will show improvement this year and that Diggs performance will decline. We‘ll see. -

If you watch towards the end of the season Diggs wasn’t drawing as many doubles. That is my impression. I could of course be mistaken. -

Just stop it. Obviously one play does not tell the story. But it does serve to rebut statements such as that the Bills do not have any receivers that can beat a top tier CB. Maybe you and your buddies should quit speaking in absolute negatives. I have also been a fan of the Bills since sitting in the Rockpile for the home opener in 1960. So spare me the crap about becoming invisible if things don’t go well. I have said numerous times this season will depend on Beady’s offensive schemes and Josh going to the open guy vs. just making Diggs gets his touches. I have also said if Beane decides to bring in a guy like Aiyuk that would be just great. How about this? How about the negative Nancys just see how things shake out? Instead of assuming for example that neither Shakir nor Samuel can continue to improve? Or how Coleman will struggle adjusting to the NFL? Or whether Kincaid and Knox become a killer duo? Or that Brady does a good job? They might and we’ll look good. They might not and they won’t. But going into the season assuming doom or gloom? Perhaps you can explain why that’s beneficial. -

I guess Shakir fits the bill then -

You are the most ridiculous person here and that’s saying something. I said I think the idea of # 1 vs 2 etc for WRs is a bit overblown and you somehow turn it into stuff about matchups and then incredibly switch it to some rant about QBs. QBs are the most important players in any position in sports and we have a great one. The idea of #1 vs 2 vs whatever is to me overblown and guys will get open based not just on talent but on play calling. -

My guess is Josh and the coaches had had enough of Diggs’ complaints and stuff so they moved him. I can’t imagine Beane does that without Josh agreeing. -

I think all the # designations for WRs are a bit overblown myself. As for gaslighting, compare last year to this year at the WR spot. The biggest difference is Diggs. Samuel is at least even with Davis, Shakir is back, and Coleman and MVS are better than the other guys from last year. So if your claim that all of a sudden the Bills WR corps is terrible is not based solely on Diggs, then what are you basing it on? -

That seemed to be your implication. Glad to hear you recognize this. -

You are doom and gloom because of 1 guy out of 5 in the WR group. Diggs. Samuel and Shakir are 2 or 3 guys, however you want to define WR “#”. MVS was good enough to be a contributor on the SB winner. And we see what the rookie brings. Meanwhile Diggs will be probably the third option in Houston. -

So your opinion is that no young guys can ever get better, nor old guys never get worse. A Diggs will always be phenomenal and a Samuel or Shakir will never amount to anything. Got it. And by the way 2+2 = 4 is not debatable. Opinions on football players always are. -

You should read up on some Greg Cosell stuff. I think he’s the guy who said Diggs wasn’t a Tier 1 guy last year. So it is somewhat debatable. This group will succeed or fail based on Brady’s schemes to get them open. -

I would have to go back and look at the data again, but I think between 1-2% of all throws in the league last year travelled over 40 yards. This is not the Mad Bomber days where you put a guy outside in one on one man coverage and he just sprints down the field to get open. Defenses are too complex now. Straight line speed in today’s league is more important to get more yards after a catch, and in that regard so called football speed is more important. Hence my using Rice as an example. Regardless of 40 time, no one caught him from behind on a football field. -

On both sides of the ball. Straight line speed counts for WR and DBs then. Our WR corps has guys that are fast. The critical things about the relative success of our WRs will be how Brady schemes route trees and such to get guys open, and Josh distributing the ball to the open guy and not trying to force feed any individual guy. -

Ask Jerry Rice how much 40 times matter. -

Never that impressed by Godwin. And it would appear we are now including TEs which is fine. So we have Shakir, Samuels, and Kincaid. Let’s see what they do. Or Coleman of course.
